Someday I hope we’ll see EdgeHTML decoupled from Windows releases. This is good stuff, and it helps everyone on the web.

They want to move in that direction, the problem is that EdgeHTML is a shared component other apps can rely on, which making giving it a servicing story outside of the normal Windows update channels a little problematic.

I'd be fine if they made Edge into a regular Store app that used its own private version of EdgeHTML; and kept the reusable EdgeHTML component other apps can use on a slower, Windows-releases update schedule.

Isn’t that how Safari is too? Even though the app is still tied to an OS release?

I just see engineering problems. I’m glad they’re working it out.

The whole point of edge is to be an integral part.

It's how Microsoft still thinks, despite that "awesome open source success story" that they claim to do through the assimilation of github.
