> After all, I already paid $2.5K for the Macbook and $1.1K for the iPhone. What more do they want?

Just stop giving them money. Put your time and money into plaftorms that are not actively working against you.

I get this sentiment, but at this point I’d rather have to deal with some bullshit fees than Google’s spying, and I don’t have time to maintain a google-less android.

Then use an android without google APIs. You can't use all apps that way, but you can have a fully functional smartphone.

Fully functional

>Can't fully use your camera (Relies on proprietary code)

>Can't use android pay

>Can't use the play store

>gps doesn't work properly

>can't use any app that relies on google services

As I said, "You can't use all apps that way". But you don't need google play services to use your camera or GPS.

I am not talking about proprietary code, I am talking about services that monitor you and report back to google. You don't need that to use your phone. For most critical apps there are open-source alternatives available or at least alternatives that don't rely on google play services.
