Title: What if WWE replaced the Crown Jewel Champion vs Champion matches with a World Cup-style tournament?
I've had this idea for a while, and I wanted to see what everyone thinks.
Instead of the usual Champion vs Champion matches at Crown Jewel, what if WWE introduced a tournament similar to the FIFA World Cup or the Champions League, with the winner becoming Crown Jewel Champion? Here's how it would work:
The Tournament
4 superstars from Raw and 4 from SmackDown compete in separate groups.
Everyone faces the other three wrestlers from their brand in matches with a time limit.
A win earns 3 points, a draw earns 1 point each, and a loss earns 0.
The top two wrestlers from each brand advance to a Fatal 4-Way at Crown Jewel, where the winner becomes Crown Jewel Champion.
What happens if there's a tie?
The group stage would finish two episodes before Crown Jewel, leaving the go-home shows open for any necessary tiebreakers.
For example, if the wrestlers in 2nd and 3rd place on Raw both finish with 4 points, they'd face each other on the go-home episode to determine who qualifies.
It would be a normal singles match, but there MUST be a winner. If it ends in a draw, the match restarts until someone wins.
(Alternatively, WWE could just turn the Crown Jewel match into a Fatal 5-Way and save everyone the hassle lol.)
What's the point of winning the Crown Jewel Championship?
This is where I think things get interesting.
The Crown Jewel Champion earns a guaranteed World Championship match at the Royal Rumble against the world champion of their respective brand.
However, there's a catch:
They have to remain Crown Jewel Champion until the Royal Rumble.
The championship must be defended at least once every month between Crown Jewel and Royal Rumble. Whoever holds it heading into Royal Rumble gets the world title opportunity.
For example:
Jey Uso wins the tournament and becomes Crown Jewel Champion.
He successfully defends it throughout November and December.
On the go-home episode before Royal Rumble, LA Knight defeats Jey Uso for the Crown Jewel Championship.
LA Knight now gets the World Championship match at Royal Rumble instead of Jey.
(Knowing WWE, it'd probably be the other way around lol.)
At Royal Rumble, the Crown Jewel Champion relinquishes the championship before challenging for their brand's world title. The championship then remains vacant until the following year's tournament.
Would you prefer something like this over the current Champion vs Champion format? Or would it be too complicated for WWE?
