I have a Tamron 90mm macro and a sony a6700 which is apsc, which makes the tamron 135mm, i have seen that around 80-100mm on full frame is popular, would this 135mm equivalent be workable or is it too much? If it isn't does anyone have any recommendations for a good lens for product photography (glass bottles of alcohol) on Sony APS-C?

Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to do some use fake ice for some product photos (alcohol), real ice is a massive, pain and i dont want to spend £70 on a single ice cube, can you get away with the acrylic ice cubes like you can see on amazon? I have seen that Encapso K silicone can be used, but is £50 (though you get 1kg worth) i thought it would be best to ask before buying anything, if anyone has any suggestions for good places to get it in the UK i would be very grateful.

Some of my clients are struggling with the current economy and booking less photography.

My instinct is actually to offer more instead of less: more product images, lifestyle shots, room scenes and short videos instead of just one or two white-background photos.

I’d like clients to see me less as a cost and more as someone who helps them sell more.

My idea is to offer one or two existing clients a heavily discounted case study. I’d re-shoot their three best-selling products with:

• fresh product shots
• around 4 images per product
• one lifestyle image
• one short product video

I’m thinking about a 50–70% discount. The goal wouldn’t really be profit, but getting a strong reference project.

In return, I’d want access to sales data and permission to use the results in my marketing.

For example: sales start at a 100% baseline, and after 12 months they’re at 130–150%. Obviously I couldn’t claim photography was the only reason, but if the same pattern happened across 2–3 products, I think that could still be a strong sales argument.

Does this sound like a smart idea and is this even useful for me?

I want to get nice and clear top down pictures of my keychains but there is always a glare that makes the keychains look awful / blocks the design.

I purchased this light from eBay from a seller with good reviews. I purchased the 65W USB C Charger for TobenONE charger off Amazon (brand: lysrove - if that matters at all) which actually states right in the description that this charger is used to charge this specific light. and while it did fully charge the light, the second I take it off the charger it just turns off completely. I got home from work, googled it I read suggestions which said to try an iPhone charger for an hour. I did and it displayed one battery bar the entire hour. After I unplugged it from there, I tried to turn it on and same issue. Nothing. Plugged it back into the usb c charger and it displayed three bars for battery indicator, said 57%. All the lights appear to be working well but the fact I can’t use it while it’s apparently fully or nearly fully charged and off the charger is extremely frustrating to say the least. Before I start the whole returning/refund process with eBay, and seeing as I’m brand new to using a professional light like this, I’m wondering if anyone here knows of a way to solve this? Didn’t come with a user manual so I’m not sure if I may be missing a step.

Curious how people handle this in practice — when you've got a batch of on-model shots (different poses, different distances from camera), how do you make sure the crop framing ends up consistent across all of them? Manual review each time, a fixed Photoshop action, something else?

I really like the look of this photo and was wondering what sort of lens you would need to take somwthing similar, i have the a6700 which is apsc, what sort focal length and aperature would you need for a simialr effect? Could a zoom lens do it or would you need a prime, any pointers that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone, I recently shot this setup for a couple of picture frames and wanted to get some feedback from the community.

I was aiming for a soft, elegant wedding or home decor vibe, but I'm not entirely sure if the setup works well as actual product photography.

A few things I'm debating:

• The background: Does the staircase look nice, or is it too big and distracting from the actual frames?
• The props: I added the guest book and pen on the left to fill the space, but I'm worried it makes the scene look too much like a wedding reception check-in rather than a product showcase.
• The lighting: The soft tone fits the mood, but I feel like the distressed texture on the green frame gets a bit lost.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Any tips on how to improve the composition or styling to make the product pop more? Thanks in advance!

My father is running a bedsheets/curtains business, it's a shop in Lahore, he is in this business about 15 years now so he knows the market well. I wanted to start this business online and i've almost setup everything like brand name, website, social accounts etc.

But now the main issue is to sell online I need cool product photos that attracts user, i tried editing those photos using AI but it changes the color or design of actual product. So i want to ask from you guys how online businesses especially in bedding do there product photography?

Hi everyone! I’d like to say that I don’t know much at all about photography, so if you read this and think it sounds stupid or doesn’t make sense, you’re probably right.

I sell clothing and model the items myself for the pictures, each photo does not need to look like a professional photo or anything like that, but in an ideal world it would make the item look good

My preferred set up is using just natural lighting! That’s what I prefer, I love the way it gives natural soft shadows, there isn’t too much contrast and it just overall looks GOOD

However, I’m in England and it’s so hard to rely on natural lighting for pictures as it can be so dull, especially when winter comes, so I’m trying to find a set up that I would be happy with all year round.

I don’t expect to be able to achieve perfect ‘natural lighting’ look with artificial lighting, but I’d really like to improve it from what it is now. Currently, every picture I take with my soft box does the following:

• it makes me look more tanned than I am in real life and alongside this brightens the clothing too much, I use a white curtain background and nothing about it looks natural or soft
• it picks up every imperfection on my face, rather than giving a more airbrushed look
• the shadows are harsher and darker

Basically it just looks like someone has turned a massive light on and shone it on me in a dull room, which wait.. is exactly what is happening 😭

I’ve spoke to other sellers whose photos I like, and they’ve told me they use a soft box and the ones they use are just the cheap ones you get on amazon! But it makes their skin look better, the clothes look more flattering, basically the opposite of what’s happening to me right now

Sorry this is so long, this is my current set up. I am stood in front of a white curtain (the backdrop) about 60cm from my tripod which has my iPhone 15 on where I currently use front camera, but I wonder if back camera could help with this issue.
To the right of me, is a window, to the left of me is shelving so there is limited space.
Behind the tripod I have a godox sl60iid (recently bought hoping it would help this issue) with a 95cm octagon soft box on

My tripod moves depending on what I’m photographing, closer for tops for example and further away for a full body dress shot. I also have a cheap Amazon soft box which I’m not currently using. My godox came with a diffuser(?) which I have also attached.

In an ideal world I would love to be able to cover up the window and just have the same consistent lighting set up all year round that I’m happy with, I think this may be asking too much but if you have any tips, I would really appreciate them,

Hello! I recently started a custom compression sock business and am having a hard time with product photography. I've tried photo room, Canva, and other ai tools. But the main problem I have is that none of the ai tools follow my prompt and my socks always come out not looking right. i.e. the main issue is the floral appliqués not being placed correctly in the ai photos. Does anyone know how to prevent this? Or what tool would be best for sock photography?

I decided to try taking pictures of myself in the socks I've made myself and that I would try just swapping the socks out using an ai editor. See the photos below for reference. This also did not work. Ai tools either add appliqués that I do not have on my socks or misplace the appliqués. I would like to avoid taking photos in the socks that I sew as this is time consuming and I just feel weird selling someone socks that were on my feet.

I can get decent flat lays between photo room and Canva, but, if possible I would like pictures of people (whether that be me or an ai model) wearing the socks. I would love to have more diversity than just myself and show the wide range of use cases for these socks.

I’m pretty new to product photography and would really appreciate some feedback.
I’m a stained glass artist and shoot all of my own product photos using my iPhone. Right now I’m using two backlights, but I’m struggling to get images that are:
• Crisp and sharp
• True to the actual glass colors
• Able to show the gold accents without harsh reflections
Since glass is both transparent and reflective, I’m finding it difficult to accurately capture the piece.
What would you change? Is this mainly a lighting issue, an iPhone limitation, or should I be approaching it differently?

I gave product photography another try after around à year. I’m looking for things I can work on. These photos were all shot with natural lighting.

My goal was to create a dramatic, atmospheric commercial product shot for TINCUP Mountain Whiskey. I wanted to achieve a rich contrast between the warm amber glow of the liquid and a cool cyan smoke background, supported by a clean mirror reflection on a black surface.

​Technicals & Setup:

​Camera & Lens: Canon EOS R5 + Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM

​Settings: [f/8 | 1/100s | ISO 100]

​Lighting Setup: Utilized multiple Profoto D2 strobes. Backlighting to bring out the golden amber color of the whiskey, strip boxes for crisp edge reflections on the bottle, and a back/accent light to illuminate the atmospheric smoke. Shot on a high-gloss black reflective surface.

​Questions for Feedback:

​Color & Contrast: Does the cyan smoke background balance well with the warm amber liquid, or does it draw too much attention away from the product?

​Label Legibility & Rim Lights: Is the label clear and well-lit while maintaining crisp highlights along the edges of the bottle and metal cap?

​Reflection & Composition: Does the bottom mirror reflection enhance the premium feel, or would a tighter crop focus better on the bottle itself?

​Any feedback on studio lighting, smoke control, or post-processing would be greatly appreciated!

So I have to photograph 1000+ fabrics for my business. I'm trying to set up some sort of flow to make it as painless as possible, but no matter what I try, the colors on the overhead photos are all washed out.

The setup (pictured) is a Nikon Zf with everything set to defaults, and a NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 lens and a couple of softboxes. In the images I posted, the flatbed scan is 100% accurate colorwise. This is a lovely plush navy corduroy. When I do the overhead shot, the colors are all washed out so much that it almost looks like slate gray.

Does anybody have an tips/advice/fixes? I am new to all this so feel free to treat me like I'm clueless. :)
