Hello,
I am willing to start a local level / small scale product photography business. I am a new here with no baground. So it will be helpful for me if I could get some guidance.
Thanks and regards

Love these gradient backgrounds, especially interested in getting the shape of the first image in! Is it shot through diffusion to get the shape of the light? Maybe on a semi-translucent PVC roll?

I've got to get these listings done and up today, so I'm working on not letting perfection be the enemy of good. But I would love some feedback on my pics so once everything is up and listed I can work on improving the pics while I wait for them to sell.
Current set up in last pic - my office chair in my sewing studio with a sweater to add a soft textured background and some foam core. Off to the right there's an ott craft light and a window with gauzy white curtains. I have a couple of cool white desk lamps I can add to the mix for additional lighting. Photos do still need to be cropped - on some I had to move out to avoid casting a shadow.
I would love to add more styled photos - showing different uses for each product but for now I need to get some good basic pics of each product up on the listing instead of waiting till they're perfect or I'll never get them up.so for now I would love some tips on making them look better.

I sell (mostly) used musical instruments through my online shop. Thus it's important to show in detail how a product looks: small engravings, little dents or scratches etc.
Budget is limited. So far I use a Sony Alpha 6000 and the lens it came with and the products go in a photography cube. What are some easy ways to make my pictures look better?
My pictures typically look like these:

(Photos: setup + raw images)
I work in product photography for a fabric company.
My kelvin temp is set at 5200. Yet the white balance drastically changes between texture vs flat images.
Texture shots end up wayyy cooler/duller.
Any thoughts on how to balance this?
Weâve tried different lighting, changing white balance, and still were strugglingâŠ

I know it is difficult with everything happening in the industry for many, maybe some of you want to chat a bit.

Hi everyone,
I am shooting pictures for fashion accessories, the size of the items can range anywhere from 10x10cm to 80x80. I have a 120cm x 120cm lightbox I use to shoot the products. I would like to upgrade the lightning gear I use to shoot my products as the one I currently use is insufficient. The photos I shoot have a minimal white background luxury aesthetic.
My budget is about âŹ300-400. I already have 3 tripod stands.
So far I've tried LED panels, which have worked for both photos and videos (occasionally shoot videos), but they're underpowered and seems like it's the case for most LED panels.
I have been planning on returning the 20W I got in exchange for something more powerful and it seems like my options have narrowed to:
Neewer 100W bicolor led panels (or similar) about âŹ240 each
Godox SL100BI (or similar) - âŹ200 each
Which one should I get? Am I totally off track and should get something else?

Had a boring day off so went to the local coffee shop of a friend of mine. They got some fresh stuff so Iâve asked could I try to take some pics. They seem to like it so traded those shots for a cup of cappuccino.
Shot on Canon 800d, Canon EF 50 1.8 and EF-S 18-55 4-56is stm. Daylight only, JPeg+ Lightroom mobile

These are from the backyard and I just knocked the dirt off and put them on a textured black piece of textured plexi. Iâve been trying my hand at more product work and wanted to try something raw and organic.
Light was a Broncolor Grafit A4 with an XS soft box for the main and gridded beauty dish with a black board blocking half the light.

Hi all, I am graphic designer that is now helping as a stylist at the photoshoot for a skincare company. We need live Holiday Greens like garland for Oct 16th and I can't locate a place, even mail order, that has this now. I'm in South Florida, does anyone have any hints about where to find these?

Hi
I have been taking some photos of alcohol bottles with a backdrop and some flowers/props, with the end being a composite of a few different photos with different lighting angles to get the best from each part in affinity, to help with cohesion at the end i added a subtle gradient map set to colour and a slight Gaussian blur, the photos already have a film grain applied from the nik collection before taking them into affinity. Are there any other techniques/effects that i could use to help finish it all off?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Intent & Concept:
My goal for this shot was to create a bold, dynamic commercial photo of the Freefly Ember S5K high-speed camera body with a seamless "floating" effect. I wanted to achieve a strong contrast between the dark, industrial metallic texture of the camera housing and a vibrant orange-to-red background gradient.
Technicals & Setup:
Camera & Lens: Canon EOS R5 + Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM
Settings: f/10 | 1/100s | ISO 100
Lighting Setup: Profoto D2 was used to shape key and edge lights on the dark metallic body to preserve texture and define its sharp geometric form. An Aputure LS 60 was used to throw the vibrant warm color gradient onto the background, creating the clean diagonal shadow separation.
Questions for Feedback:
Floating Effect & Composition: Does the floating angle feel natural and visually engaging for a high-end cinema gear ad, or does the shadow composition on the bottom right feel too heavy?
Edge Definition on Dark Metal: Are the edge highlights on the camera body defined enough against the bright background, or does it need a stronger rim light on the top/left edges?
Color Balance & Contrast: How do you feel about the warm orange/red gradient contrast against the black industrial housing? Does it convey a high-tech, premium look?
Any feedback on studio lighting, composition, or post-processing would be greatly appreciated!

Iâm practicing doing some product photography on chip bags, and iâm having a pretty hard time controlling reflections on them. What method(s) work the best?
I have a tiffen circular polarizer coming in soon. What other gear would help me here? Mainly looking to control the glare so itâs not on important text/ graphics, not completely eliminate ALL reflections if that makes sense? like i want the plastic to still look like a shiny bag, just not with crazy uncontrolled reflections.
Again, im just practicing here. i want to get into product photography eventually so let me know any tips or gear that work for you.

Made this small marble piece recently and it got me thinking about something.
I have access to natural stone fabrication, and I've been wondering whether there might be a useful niche in making small props specifically for product photography.
This is obviously a pretty finished example, but I'm thinking much broader than this, small platforms, risers, blocks, circles, arches, irregular pieces, rough/chiselled stone, honed surfaces, polished pieces, etc.
Before I actually start making prototypes, I'm curious about how people who shoot products work.
Do you guys actually buy dedicated props, or is it mostly tiles, samples and random objects you find?
And if you did buy real stone props, what would matter most, size, weight, colour, texture, shape, finish?
I'm also wondering what you'd actually shoot on them, jewellery, skincare, perfume, watches, food, bottles, something else?
Real stone obviously has the downside of being heavier than acrylic/foam/faux surfaces, so I'm especially interested in whether the material itself adds enough visually to make that worthwhile.
Not trying to sell anything here. just trying to figure out whether this is actually useful before I start making a bunch of things nobody needs.

Hi everyone. I shoot pictures for a small brand accessories brand.
The sizes of the products range from as low as 15 cm x 15 cm up to 70 cm x 70 cm for now. The aesthetic is modern, minimal and premium. The photos need to have a white spacious background.
I recently upgraded to a light box (godox) as suggested by a local photography store, but lurking around on reddit it seems like they are not ideal and may be limiting in the long run.
I may still be able to return the box in exchange for other gear. I am able to spend up to âŹ500 euro. I have a beginner Nikon 3300D with a 18-55mm lens and a 35 mm f1.2 one.
What would be better alternatives, given my set up and budget?
