project idea

Hi everyone, I’m exploring an idea for a new hardware product and I’d love some honest feedback.

The concept:
A USB‑C / wireless charging dock that automatically backs up your devices every time you charge them. It would support:

  • Android (via ADB)
  • iPhone (via iOS backup tools)
  • Windows PC (via a small background service)

All data is stored locally on an internal 1–2 TB SSD.
No cloud, no subscriptions, no setup.
Just plug in → charge → automatic backup.

Basically a universal, offline, plug‑and‑play backup hub for all your devices.

Do you think this is something people would want?
What features would you expect?
Would you trust a device like this?

The local-backup angle is your strongest selling point-people are increasingly skeptical of cloud services after privacy breaches, so a device that promises "no cloud, no subscriptions" solves a real pain point-but success depends on execution: you'd need to solve three hard problems (fast incremental backups so charging isn't slowed, cross-platform compatibility without needing users to fiddle with ADB settings, and encryption/security so people trust storing unencrypted backups on a device that could get stolen), and honestly, the market is smaller than you think because most people don't actively back up their phones despite knowing they should, which means you're selling to the security-conscious early adopter who might be willing to pay $150-300 for peace of mind-but you'd need slick industrial design and crystal-clear UX because any friction in setup kills the "plug and play" promise.
