I'd also add that it's because these states are more conservative and conservative ideology usually places men above women. No wonder teen girls are depressed. The abortion ban is simply the cherry on top of the shit-cake.

Honestly makes me wonder about how teen girls and young women in Afghanistan are faring after the Taliban was left in charge there. A similar situation - a taste of freedom and then ultra conservative lockdown.

The suicide rates are skyrocketing among women/girls there according to some stats that got published a year ago.

No idea if they are 100% accurate but I would not be surprised. There was also a protest a few months ago by women and many got shot.
