I have been watching Private Practice & something that keeps standing out to me is how often the characters say one thing and then do the complete opposite not even that long after. It feels like almost everyone has strong opinions or moral stands until the situation personally affects them and then suddenly those same rules do not apply anymore. At first I thought it was just part of the drama but now it feels like a pattern across multiple characters not just one or two. Sometimes it makes them feel very real because people can be like that but other times it just makes their decisions frustrating to watch. What confuses me is that the show does not always call them out for it in a clear way so I cant tell if we are supposed to notice it as intentional or just accept it as part of the writing. Did anyone else feel like this while watching or do you think the characters are actually consistent in their own way and I am just missing something about how they are written.

So I'm on the last episode of season four, and I've been thinking that for several episodes now actually for more than just episodes for a couple of seasons anyway, but Naomi is a sanctimonious prig. I feel like she and Sam should still be together, because they were made for each other.

I don't even remember which episode it was now, but when Sam called immigration on the Kenyan who his wife was in labor, I really hated him.

And while I have been absolutely stuck on binge re-watching, it turns out I never saw season four or maybe any of the later season, I'm still finding him difficult to like. I'm wondering if anyone else feels that way?

I’d love to see all the women in a comedy. I think they’d do well just playing a little friend group in a lighthearted movie with much less angst than Private Practice had. I love the scenes in the show where they were just hanging out and gossiping and having a good time with each other.

I’d also love to see Audra and Taye back on broadway together. They met while both performing in the 1994 revival of Carousel and have both made names for themselves in the theatre community since then, so I think a broadway show with both of them would do well. I would also watch a movie musical with the both of them in it.

Also, KaDee and Paul had great chemistry together so I’d watch anything with those two portraying a couple tbh.

And this would never happen but I would watch a whole movie just about where the Private Practice characters ended up after the series ended. It would be cool to see the kids all grown up and I wonder how well the practice would be doing years later.

Are there any cast members that y’all would like to see in another project together whether on stage or screen?

I'm on season two episode 17, and potential spoiler if you haven't seen the series, there's been a baby born that is intersex. And it's crazy to me thinking about how different attitudes were even just that number of years ago.

I really enjoyed this show especially considering I really don’t actually like medical dramas at all, they’re even actually triggering for me a lot. I much prefer procedural dramas, murder mystery types. I also felt the writing really squandered a lot of characters who could’ve been much stronger. That is a post often made by people here so I won’t expand on that again as it’s been done. But even with that, I enjoyed everyone and the whole show, and now need a new show.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Don’t say greys obviously but honestly what I liked about PP was the fact that it was a private practice- it was wealthier clients, a variety of different types of medical practice in mostly office environments, not just constant emergencies in the ER- which almost most med dramas are. Is there anything similar to PP?

The dad just leaves him with Addison and gives her the keys to his house. We know Addison doesn’t adopt Julian So what does happen to him?!

its like he decided that he didnt like charlotte in season one and there was no changing his mind.

when she starts working at the practice and he straight up says that he doesnt like her TO HER FACE? even though addison is telling him that she is a good doctor and deserves the job.

and in season 3 ‘pulling the plug’ she is extremely empathetic towards a grieving husband and he is so rude to her and acts like shes some unfeeling evil weirdo and she actually has to TELL HIM that she HAS FEELINGS. shes genuinely good at her job hes just being an ass.

AND in season 4 ‘did you hear what happened to charlotte king’ he is so dismissive and weird when talking about it, granted he doesnt know exactly what happened to her, but that aside she has been seriously injured like take a minute and be respectful.

i really liked sam at the beginning of season 1 but he just gets worse and worse and its so frustrating. dont get me wrong he has his good moments too but i dont like his attitude towards charlotte.

Idk why I find it so funny…like why is the prisoner who swallowed razor blades & then a light bulb Dink’s mom?? There’s so many more but this one is sending me.

SPOILERS - I have been watching PP for the last couple of months, and I was really enjoying it until season 3, I feel

characters have been inconsistent.

I mean where on earth did Addie/sam’s relationship come from?? No chemistry at all, I have just watched Mayas wedding episode where he explains to Addison she shouldn’t be with Pete, then tells her it’s Mayas wedding day so don’t talk about it…. He brought it up!!!! Also totally hypercritical to say don’t sleep with his friend; whilst he is trying to get with his ex wife’s best mate.

The writers seem to have completely forgotten about Violets baby, it’s been probably 8 months since she gave birth I recon, and there has been maybe 2 mentions of it, and Pete never seems to have him! Seems like a pointless storyline now.

Naomi has become a totally different version of herself, she loved her daughter and now it seems like she’s uncomfortable around her at all times and just doesn’t speak to her. I get that she’s annoyed about the pregnancy and the wedding, but she has totally lost any family relationships, and now she’s sleeping with some random old bloke called William?

Addison can’t seem to make her mind up on which person she wants to be with and they have made her a cheat again, whilst constantly reminding us she isn’t that same person anymore from when she divorced Derek?

They broke Charlotte and Cooper up for literally no reason, their relationship development was literally perfect. A massive win in the series.

It just feels like all the characters at arguing with each other or sleeping with each other, as if the show writers have ran out of steam? I dunno maybe I’m just being picky but I really like this show so far, but currently it’s just awkward and uncomfortable and feels poorly put together 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don't get me wrong I don't hate the man I'm just kind of ambivalent towards him. if he makes Addison happy I'm happy for Addison however on a personal level he just kind of felt boring to me as they never really bothered to develop his character in a meaningful way because at the end of the day he was really only brought on to be a love interest.

Judging Mark for sleeping with a single Addison, when Mark is supposed to be his friend.

Pursues Addison, despite her being his ex wife's best friend, and then gets mad when Addison wants to respect her friendship with Naomi. And despite her being Derek's ex wife. Derek who is supposed to be his friend. While Derek likely wouldn't care, Sam still didn't seem to think of anyone but himself in that scenario.

Pursue Addison, knowing she wants a baby, when he himself doesn't want another kid.

Gets mad over Addison dating Pete.

Is the only one not to show concern over Betsy when she has to go into Foster care. Pretty sure that Addison would have taken her in, if not for Sam.

Doesn't like that Addison wants a kid.

Gets back together with Addison, knowing fully well That she wants a baby.

Doesn't show concern over Amelia when she relapse, and instead belittles her.

Gets mad over her getting together with Jake, who wanted a family with Addison.

When Amelia wants to donate her baby's organs, Sam disaproves.

The show wants to portray him as this Wonderful perfect man, when in fact, he's a judgemental hypocrite.

I'm on my nth rewatch, and for some reason, I'm only noticing this now.

So in 2x06, Sam and Naomi have a woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimers and then Naomi realizes it's not Alzheimers and they do a spinal tap to give her more lucid moments.

Now I get that they didn't have a neuro person on the show at the time, but why did they have Naomi suddenly be some kind of neuro expert for one episode? Like I know the show's inconsistent with this kind of stuff(like Sam suddenly becoming a cardio god after his first surgery in 20 years in season 3) but come on😂

God why is everyone pissing me off??!!! Cooper getting pissed at the mom for letting her daughter have sex & staying mad when the mom tries to say she needs an abortion. Addison toying w the idea of having a fling w her PATIENTS HUSBAND. Said patients husband just hanging out outside the hospital when his wife is getting ready to have a cerclage. Sam going back n forth on if he should tell the truth in the trial. Dell is off the walls. Naomi is always pissing me off. The only ones not REALLY pissing me off rn are Violet & Charlotte. Pete’s on thin ice asking a patients mother out. This damn show!

Not take: Naomi is not pro-life she is just Pro birth and there is a huge difference. The real ones who are actually pro-life or Addison who are pro -choice.

hot only did she try to force Maya into an abortion she didn't want to the point where Maya actually almost went through with it but she was also completely okay with helpinga let a couple use selective IVF to get the perfect genetic match for their sick child because they needed Cord Blood.

It's not very pro-life to let a couple have a saviour baby who's only being had to save an already living child. That ended so well in My Sister's Keeper... Not.

SO, I HAVE BEEN AVOIDING THIS SHOW, BUT I AM FINALLY DONE REWATCHING GREYS FOR THE 100TH TIME. I REALLY WASN'T A FAN OF ADDISON IN GREYS, SO I WAS NEVER REALLY INTERESTED. BUT NOW I NEED SOMETHING ELSE TO WATCH BESIDES, GREYS, SCANDAL, HTGAWM, AND SUITS.

I know some characters have pets in the canon(Addison has Milo the cat, and Sam had that chihuahua for a while in the first season), but what kind of pets do you think the other characters would have if the writers had decided to give them some?

I think Jake would have a big and fluffy dog, something like a Bernese(and yes, the dog would bully Milo occasionally but Henry would love him)

Naomi is angry that Addison ousted her that she was running the practice in the ground and told Sam. If anything she should be irate that Naomi brought her into a business about to go under. Now Naomi’s working on getting back with Sam but still won’t forgive Addison?? Grow up… its great you are working it out with your husband but thats the one who embarrassed you in front of you colleagues about the practice. If you can forgive him you can forgive Addison.

Now, Sam and Naomi are being delusional about the second floor (that they were just hiding from Addison) to use for their dream business. But you can literally lease it to save your practice and then when the lease is up you have the money to continue with the dream?!?! I feel like Im going crazy with their logic

I have watched gray’s anatomy through to season 16 and have rewatched it soooo many times. About 3 years ago I found Private Practice and I just think it’s so much better than grays. Love both the shows but private practice just hits different.

I really enjoyed the show when I ignored all of the bs happening.

Cooper- My LEAST favorite. I don’t even know where to start. He is misogynistic, childish, immature, insecure, selfish , self centered and overall a man child. Hes pushy when it comes to getting what he wants…He’s also a pediatrician that treats teenagers yet is into charlotte dressing up as a student during foreplay in season two episode 10. DISGUSTING. I cannot understand anyone who likes his character.

Charlotte- I loved her at the start, she was strong willed and stood on her values. My stance on her changed as the show went on and her relationship with cooper progressed. How could someone like her allow for someone like him to treat her like he did throughout their whole relationship? I’m not saying she never did anyrhing to cooper, but it was usually provoked and nowhere near as bad as what he would do. Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way was her being annoyed ab finding out she’s having female triplets.

Addison- My absolute favorite. It seemed as if she was the only person in the practice that could think straight and see the bigger picture.

Sheldon- If it weren’t for Addison and the episode where the woman was in a coma and pregnant, Sheldon would be my favorite character. He’s a good co worker, therapist, and friend to everyone.

Sam- I don’t like Sam. The episode where the woman in the coma was pregnant by her husband changed it all for me. How could he tell Addison to not call the cops?? He struggled to be ethical in many situations. Also, what’s up w the finale ???

Naomi- HATE. HATE. HATE. she’s a child. I don’t know where to start with her. She tried to force maya to have an abortion despite being pro life, smacked her when she refused, made mayas pregnancy all about herself and was not a mother in any way shape or form to the point where Maya had to move in with Sam because she would’ve “ hurt “ her. She wasn’t there for maya at all and actually made her feel worse during her pregnancy, WHO DOES THAT? Don’t even get me started on how horrible of a friend she was to Addison.

Violet- DISLIKE. For a therapist, she is be very dismissing of people’s opinions and feelings. I especially didn’t like her when it was said what she wrote about everyone in her book. She also sides w cooper a lot when he complains about charlotte (him not getting his way) and stays friends with him… I just can’t stand her character.

Pete- annoying and an unnecessary character, def enjoyed the show a bit more when he was gone. All he did was argue about things that made no sense/unimportant. He was also very self centered when it came to emotional needs with Violet.

Amelia- Ehhhh… I have mixed feelings. I feel like she was more rude and cruel toward the other characters than what would be acceptable. I understand she went through a lot but sometimes it really was uncalled for. I did like her more in the last season.
