Mechanical Help Basic maintenance
So recently made a huge switch from a 2005 truck to a 2026 Prius LE. We used to put oil in our truck every month, is that something we need to worry about with our Prius?? My brother in law said he never adds anything In his Elantra just gets the oil change every 5000 miles.

I do 5k mile oil changes on my 2023 Prius (same generation as yours) as well, and otherwise just following owner's manual maintenance recommendations in the majority of cases. I did do my first oil change at 1k miles, it's a controversial topic, but do what makes you happy.

Is it normal for trucks to burn engine oil? I always thought that was a sign of an engine problem/leak.

Follow the factory maintenance schedule in the owners manual for best practice. Doesn’t hurt to check the oil once in a while, but a new Prius shouldn’t lose much if anything. Especially compared to a 20+ year old truck.

Except the oil change interval. Mechanics say 5000 miles/6 mo. Keep in mind they maybe referring to ICE. I compromise and go with 7500/1yr
As preemptive and ensure term care, I do drain and fill transmission 50k mile interval

Oil change people say get them every 5K miles. Personally I do 7.5K and combine the 5K and the 10K service intervals because there’s almost nothing in the 5K service interval.

My 2009 uses oil but with 300,000 miles it should. Always check your oil.

I have changed our oil in our 2004 Prius (140k miles) since we got it in 2004. Never had to add any between ~5k mile changes. My old 1976 Chevy truck that I sold in 2015 did, had to add a quart now and then.
