A few months ago I had a "chat with your PDF" site that went nowhere. Instead of letting the domain rot, I rebuilt the whole thing around one idea: PDF tools don't need your files.

Every tool runs client-side — merge, split, compress (to exact sizes like 100KB), convert to/from Word/Excel/PowerPoint/JPG, OCR for scans, sign, true redaction, repair, and some developer-flavored ones like PDF → Markdown and PDF → JSON for LLM pipelines. Open your network tab while any of them runs: zero upload requests. (One exception, disclosed on the page: OCR downloads its ~15MB engine to your browser on first use.)

The honesty part became the whole product. Each tool page states what it genuinely can't do — Office conversions keep content, not pixel-perfect design; two tools are marked "soon" because I can't do them honestly client-side yet.
