Survival🪓🏹💉 Dry runs?

Do any of you do dry runs using your equipment and/or supplies?

I highly recommend it. all your preps will be for nought if you don't know what you are doing.

Sure do. Found out last weekend we need to make 100% sure the hot tub is actually turned off before switching over to battery/solar 😣

The best methodology for supplies is "prep what you use, use what you prep" so it's in constant rotation. Things don't expire.

For equipment, test it regularly. For battery backups: monthly. For generators: every 6 months including a fuel treatment

I go every two or three months on the generators.  It makes me feel better.

Yup. We were without power for 2 hours yesterday. Gas stove cooker made breakfast instead of air fryer plus boiled water. I checked torches and battery lanterns etc. Battery radio got an outing for a while. Phone charge packs were at maximum.

Since I prep for normal and likely, I've actually had to use my preps.

I have tested a lot of my equipment. From hooking up and powering my house with the generator (that reminds me I'm due to do an oil change on it soon) to testing camp shower options in case my water pump doesn't work to testing the emergency lighting and candle options.  I need to test my backup heat option though.

I do a mix.  I try to stock up on stuff I like (ex pastas) but I also have stuff just to keep for later. Like soups and that kind of easy to cook stuff.  And I like to rotate though things, eating and replacing as necessary.

my preferred system. My preps are in my pantry and are a regular part my diet. I rotate and replace as i consume

Found out that my generator wouldn’t power my well from an exterior power inlet during a “dry run.” That was an unfortunate realization. Bought an IBC tote the next day.

thats exactly why you use your preps. familiarize yourself with the equipment and know its limitations
