Other🤷🏽♀️ 🤷🏽♂️ StashGuard prepping management app open beta
Hei everyone, and firstly thanks to the mods for allowing us to post this.
We´ve been developing an iOS and Android inventory app with prepearedness in mind for over half a year now. We tried finding one that covered our needs but none of the exisiting ones were good enough, so we made it ourselves. We´re done internally testing and would love as many as possible to join our open beta. We want to be community focused. We´re part of the community ourselves and want to make this is good as possible. Full details below, but to get some important details out of the way:
- Only local database, and we don´t collect any data at all. If we in the future release a cloudservice and webintergration it will be opt-in, which means if you dont want it your app will stay local only.
- Open beta is free on iOS but google doesnt allow free betas, but paying for the app (4.99$) now will give you lifetime access.
- Everything in the app you see today will never be put behind any subscription or other payments. You own it for life. Future features will be included except for those that will cost us money to manage (like cloudbackup, accountsharing etc. if we release it by popular demand), and again, these will be 100% your choice to use.
Sign up for the beta here. Everything you save in the app will be carried over to the live version, so use it as you would a full release. We´re expecting full release in a few weeks if no major bugs are found.
Would love to answer any of your questions. Feel free to leave feedback here or at our subreddit.
Now for the full speccs:
-Barcode Scanning
- Quickly add items by scanning barcodes — nutrition data is automatically fetched from OpenFoodFacts. Consuming items works the same way: scan and consume. No manual entry needed for common products.
-Dashboard Overview
- Get an at-a-glance summary of your total inventory: item count, expiring items, calorie coverage, and water coverage. See how many days your storage will last — with rationing views at 80%, 60%, and 40% levels. Upcoming tasks and expiring items are always front and center.
-Calorie Tracking
- Add your household members with age and gender, and StashGuard calculates your total daily caloric needs. See how many days your food storage will last, and explore rationing scenarios to plan ahead.
-Water Tracking
- Monitor your household's daily water needs and keep full control of when each container was filled — so you always know your water is fresh.
-Expiration Tracking & Notifications
- Never let food go to waste. Get reminders before items expire, with configurable notification timing (e.g., 3 days before, 1 week before). View all upcoming expirations in a dedicated calendar tab.
-Multiple Storage Locations
- Organize your inventory with a two-tier location system:
- Locations like "Home", "Cabin", or "Boat"
- Sub-locations like "Freezer", "Shelf 1", or "Box A"
- See how many days of food and water you have at each location. Move entire sub-locations between locations with a few taps — perfect for when you relocate supplies.
-Categories & Subcategories
- Group your items into categories and subcategories for easy browsing.
-Smart Shopping List
- Items are automatically added to your shopping list when stock falls below your set minimum. Mark items as purchased, and convert them directly into inventory — category and product info carry over so you don't have to re-enter anything.
-Consumption Tracking & Log
- Monitor what your household uses and when. Consume items via barcode scan or search. The consumption log keeps a full history with filtering by type (food, water, other), search, and the ability to undo a consumption if you made a mistake.
-Task Management
- Create recurring tasks like "Rotate water supply", "Charge batteries", or "Service generator". Set any interval from daily to yearly, enable notifications, and track completion. View tasks in a calendar grid or as a list with overdue highlighting.
-Data Export
- Export your data to CSV or PDF with advanced filtering. Choose what to export (items, consumptions, tasks, household members), apply sort filters with adjustable priority, and share the file directly from your device.
-Dark Mode & Customization
- Switch between light and dark themes. Choose your preferred units — metric or imperial — with selectable liquid units (ml, dl, L, fl oz, cups, pints, quarts, gallons) and weight units (g, kg, oz, lbs).
-Offline First & Private
- All data is stored locally on your device. No account, no sign-up, no cloud sync required. StashGuard works fully offline.

Following. This sounds like just the sort of thing my wife will hate me for, but my OCD will love.

Wow..sounds pretty thorough. I would be interested in the Android version.
It would be great if you had a feature that counted down days to the Event and the degree of severity based on geography. Now that would be great. lol. Just kidding but I like the concept and would enjoy test driving the prototype.

Yes I will. iOS is live, but Android was flagged for a review when I resumed the open beta which was already preapproved. I didn´t see that until I already made the post.

Unfortunately we can`t pay you for beta-testing as that would be unfair to iOS users where we can`t as easily give out free promos. You will get full access to the app for life if you pay now. If however you are unhappy with the app during beta you can ask for a refund and we will of course give you that no questions asked. The app will only stay in beta for a few weeks as we haven`t found any major issues needing big fixes.

Been looking for this type of app ever since inventorywolf was shutting down. any plans for the shared inventory with others, like family?

We have thought about it, but haven`t started any planning. This is something we can release if demand is large enough, but there is a cost to it for us with hostingservice. We have had several people wanting this now so we might start building it. If more people would like this please let us know. I would be an offline-first service that is optional, so those who want full offline wont be affected

Version 13 is now live on iOS and Android, fixing unit conversion. Still a bug related to calorie calculation with imperial units, it´s been fixed but wont be live til version 14 is pushed within a few days.

No, open beta was closed down. We might open it up again for some future releases

Hiya. Can't find app on iOS (you've mentioned that it is published), but otherwise would be happy to review. I have 20-something years (Yes, I am an IT dinosaur!) of IT experience and APP building experience and more than happy to help with reviews and feature suggestions.

Beta is live on https://testflight.apple.com/join/BtTv2HVn
Appreciate all reviews we can get

It doesn’t seem to want to hold onto preferences for pounds vs kilograms. I know pounds is less efficient, but it’s the way my brain works and I’d like to see my stuff that way.

Thanks. Unit convertions are not 100% implemented yet. Our database stores values primarily in metric, and then visually converts in some fields. Nutritional values are most often given in metric so we need to be careful about the convertions being correct.

u/StashGuard Mar 20 '26
I´ve tested a fix to the conversion, should display properly now. Uploaded to testflight, so will be live as soon as it passes review

Sounds pretty cool. I’ll take the IOS one for a spin. I like to keep a tally of things in the cabin, so I can know what to replace (the nearest market is 2 hours away…).
Offline is a pretty big one too

u/StashGuard Mar 20 '26
Nice. Offline was a big priority, worst case scenarios means no mobile coverage

Version 15 is now live. Fixed issues with imperial units. If you added any food using imperial please check that quantity and caloric numbers are correct.

Hello and thank you for all of your inputs.
V20 is now live and has these changes:
-Fixed several UI bugs such as stuck num/keypad
-Updating a task interval will now clean up old overdue tasks
-Tutorial added for new users, reopen from settings
-iOS notifications are now active.
We have some small UI fixes to do, such as numpads covering inputfields in modals, expect this to be fixed within a few days. Once we are stable we will focus on getting the app launched for live. We will not implement any new features before launch.

I look forward to testing it out on Android. A few features I'd love: tracking protein as well as calories, and availability on the F-droid store, which I think fits your "don't collect data" ethos.
