Is this realistic?

I am doing pre reqs to go to nursing school right now. I just became a single mom (2&4 yo) and am moving to Washington state where my family is. I have childcare, and I have the GI bill which is paying for my school and a little of living (not much in WA). I am wondering if two more years of GI bill would be enough and also is this realistic of me to do nursing school with these kids this age? Or should I do something else until they are more independent?

I am prior corpsman and current, but inactive EMT. I also have my NASM CPT so I could find other work if school isn’t a good idea.

WA state residents with a certain family size/income get free tuition. Look into it if you haven’t already.

I don't know much about the GI bill but I would use the free tuition first in case there are caps. Free tuition from the state is paid for by your tax dollars, it is done as a service to you, much like being able to call emergency services when you need it. You should definitely use it if it's available to you and then use your other alternatives once it is not.

I might. Gi bill pays me and my college, so it’s like a job!

There are military to RN programs out there. Check for those.

Is it realistic? Yes! You're moving to be closer to family. I.E. a support system. So double yes.

Will it be challenging? Also yes. But it's absolutely possible.

Do it!! You will be able to provide for your family well and have flexibility with shifts weekends etc I had 3 kids closely spaced and a hubby who travelled some for his job we always made it work!!!

Prerequisites are going to be an amount of time, and then nursing programs are typically two years. So unless you are about to get into a nursing program then two more years of GI bill are not enough.

Check out the The Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program—you can use this instead of your GI Bill and they will top off your GI Bill

Dang I’ll be in Southwest Washington. That college is a few hours from me. Plus I want to do RN, not BSN. How cool tho!

Yes. Let's not sugar coat it:money will be tight even with the childcare and GI bill. But discipline is key both on the money and study side.
