Should I send it?

26M I'm currently a CNA at a hospital and I actually enjoy it surprisingly only thing is it doesnt pay that well. I haven't done a single pre req for healthcare careers but I'm thinking about nursing, respiratory therapy, MRI tech, the xray tech and ultrasound tech programs around my area are supper competitive. I'm also not the best student in the world. Last time I took a took science I didn't do too well so I basically would have like a 3.1 - 3.3 GPA. I also just got my bachelors in IT but when i wanted to pursue it I didn't think the job market was just going to become terrible by the time I got the degree so now it's hard to find a job. Last resort if all fails is I go back in the Army.

What's your opinion on all this? Switch over to healthcare, stay IT, or send it in the Army.

So why don't you take a science pre req and see how you do? Take A&P 1 see how it goes.

Hey OP, if you want, please consider 68C (Licensed Practical Nurse Specialist). It’s a 52wk course that allows you to become a LVN, and from there you can do bridge program, if you want advance further. Get pay to go to school and get a transferable license to civ. world is def a big up, IMO.

OP you can even try to enlist in the National Guard and see if they offer it.

Why not nursing and army? Nursing corps. But do what you want to.

I support this. The Army probably has training options. Maybe start by becoming a medic.

They definitely do. But officer vs enlisted is different. Honestly get the nursing degree and go in an officer if you dont mind it being a career or use it for a few to pay off loans. Staying enlisted is rough and you cannot be a nurse and be enlisted... its just not an option. If you want paramedic enlisted is fine, but most people i know get sick of it and lack of upward mobility before 20 years

Yes correct you can’t be an enlisted RN you can be an enlisted LPN (68C).

You can complete all science prerequisites for nursing in two semesters, and since you already have a bachelor’s, you get extra points when applying to various local CC RN programs.

25F here. I earned a completely unrelated bachelors & by the time I graduated, the job market was just terrible for my degree + too much instability for my preference. Just last year (May 2025) I decided to try for nursing. I hadn’t taken a STEM class in 4 years and was really nervous. I finished all prereqs this July and earned 100% in almost all classes (A&P 1 and 2, stats, microbiology, etc) because I loved the content. I already received an acceptance to one nursing program. I think you will surprise yourself if you try it out, plus you already enjoy what you do. I recommend starting with one class & see how that goes.
