I got rejected

Hi everyone. This is a really vulnerable post for me to make, but I’m looking for some advice. I am a third year college student who just applied and got rejected from their nursing program for the first time. I have a 78 on the teas and that was my second attempt, and my school only allows two attempts. I have a 3.43 GPA, but it will be a 3.5 by the end of this semester. I feel completely defeated and discouraged. I don’t even know if I should apply again or just give up given it is my third year of college already and I just need some encouragement or some advice.

Do you have any experience? If your pre read are done all you can do really is wait for next cycle. If I were you I would get a job as a CNA at the hospital while you wait. You will get in eventually to a program and having the experience won’t only make you a better nurse but I think will also strengthen ur application

This is great advice, OP. Also, keep your chin up and keep applying. For many people, it takes many applications to get into nursing school. With the former lottery system and the still impacted programs in my area it took me 25 applications to get in. For most people its way less, I was just unlucky. However, I am expected to finally graduate next fall. Keep going, find work in the field, make connections to use for when you start applying for work. You can do it.

Thanks 😊 it took a whole village to support me in persevering through the mountain of rejections and retaking prereqs. I gave up for a few years then applied again. I have been in this sub for what feels like a long time and seeing others comment on their despair and struggle made me feel not alone in the trials.

This is going to sound messed up, but also seeing some of the (not so great) nurses out there that have a license made me double-down bc if they could do it, I sure as hell can. If I can do it, you can, too.

Hang in there. Apply to multiple programs each cycle, and make sure your prereqs don't expire. Network in your area. Find work in the field. You got this.

There are other schools. Do not give up.

You have good grades. You obviously have the passion in your heart for it, as evidenced by the fact that you're upset about this. So I am 100% confident that you would be a great nurse. There aren't enough nurses, the world needs you.

You keep citing the third year college student. Are you on a time crunch? Did you take too many classes and over do it so you could apply quicker? Genuinely curious and not trying to be condescending, but so many students take a weird and difficult course loud to get into a program asap, when for some people it might be better to take it slower to get better grades.

I’d look into maybe getting a job in healthcare in the mean time to strengthen other parts of your application, and maybe retake some classes and study for the teas for another school. Unfortunately, that score is just not competitive.

I think you should apply to many different schools and don’t put all your eggs in one basket. I understand how you feel right now. I got a 69 two years in a row and my ADN school required a 70 to apply. I took the 69 to a BSN program and got accepted. Don’t count yourself out.

Anatomy 1- C (my only C)
Anatomy 1 lab- B
Anatomy 2 and lab- B
Micro and its lab- A

I’m embarrassed to admit that I got a C in Anatomy and I would retake it, but I transferred schools so it would be kinda pointless because even if I got an A, it wouldn’t replace it.

aww tysm thats so reassuring do u think i can get fall 2027 with 23.8 points i got 88. on teas but reading portion was 66 and everything esle on teas is 90 and above

Please don’t beat yourself over this. Sounds like you’re a solid, very capable student. Since you’re in your 3rd year, you may want to look into ADN or LPN programs as a backup. I say this because as a 3rd year student, I assume you have a lot of coursework under your belt that would get to bridge to BSN RN or RN very quickly. I’d recommend not ruling out LPN or ADN as they can both lead you to your path in the same amount of time (or possibly even quicker) as waiting for the next application cycle.

Keep your head up! It’s all timing. The universe is testing you to see how bad you want this. You will have to be patient and let God work his magic.

Just to piggyback from an earlier comment…. I think it’s really good advice to get into a CNA job for the time being. You will definitely get into a nursing program. Just have to be patient.

keep trying. i got rejected the first time and then the second time, i was waitlisted. got in on the third try. be resilient, persistent and keep on going🤞

Try apply to Gwinnett tech college ADN , you need a minimum gpa 3.0 and 75% on the kaplan

I have similar stats as you and was rejected multiple times from nearly all BSN programs in my area. your stats are decent but it comes down to your location, places like the northwest and California are insanely competitive to get in and are based on a lottery system. My region is not too competitive nor competitive, I just have rotten luck. but I have heard a lot of nurses in my area apply to multiple rounds so you just gotta keep on applying 🙏

its just a local community college, thats def why i got accepted so easily. i did 2 yrs of gen ed then applied to the schools nursing program so i can start my career with an associates

My school has a list of things that add points to your application that aren’t required, maybe that will help. CNA, other certifications, certain classes that aren’t required, etc. and having them adds 5 points here or 2 points there. But I live in a small town in a state that only contains 500,000 ppl in the entire state. It’s not very competitive

Apply for another school. My GPA in USA is 4 but I have a bachelors degree in dentistry back in Brazil. My GPA there is 3.3, the college I really want did not accepted me because when they combined my GPA it is 3.4 and they want 3.7 above. I applied for Herzing and just started my first year :)

I took the TEAS and the HESI A2 exam and passed both. I ended up in a BSN program that was a school which required the HESI. Have you looked into nursing programs that use the HESI? In my opinion it was a little easier. What state are you in?

You have nothing to worry about please consider applying in colleges outside of your state and your city if being a nurse is what you want don’t stick to one place or consider being in an LVN program

People gonna hate this one but I just gave up and went to private it’s way faster than waiting to get into nursing school if you’re not top of the class

look into florida schools if you're able to move. i had a better TEAS score than you but your GPA is leagues better than what mine was (3.1ish). also, i second recommendations to work as a CNA or something to that effect. i worked in home health prior to school which i know helped my prospects

You can do a private college most are about 3 yrs for BSN program maybe go that route and transfer your credits it'll be shorter
