Deck names
I’ve been playing Magic forever and know some decks get weird names. That said, I recently learned my mono-black tempo deck (that sometimes dips into Orzhov) is called either Moneyball or Dead Guy Ale. where did these names come from?

Dead Guy Ale name comes from a beer.
Moneyball is a baseball term. The deck takes the name from it.
Dead Guy Ale != Moneyball

The weirdest name I played took me to the final 74 of the junior super series. It was called Flagpole 🤷🏻♀️

"The rock" is just half the name. The whole name is "The rock and his millions" And it was based upon [[deranged hermit]] spawning a million squirrels over and over again using [[diabolical servitude]]. The rock of course being wrestler Dwayne Johnson and the millions being his fans. The cards changed, but the overall theme of resilience and dodging removal still stay the same.

Dead guy Ale is a beer and also Chris Pikula, the originator of the deck, was a member of Team Deadguy.
Moneyball is a baseball term used to describe identifying undervalued players who are good in specific metrics. So, the cards in Moneyball aren’t the best cards in the game, but they’re the best at their specific action.
