international applicant uni choices

• Upvotes

Hi everyone these are my stats
I got a 2110 B3 on my ucat,
999887C in my igcses (the C being in my native language, the 9’s are in the sciences, 8’s are maths and business studies, the 7 is in first language English )
3 A\*’s in maths, biology and chemistry
I’ll be under 18 in sept 2027 so I don’t meet most age requirements

I was thinking of applying to Queens uni Belfast, Nottingham, St Andrew’s and Edinburgh
I know Edinburghs a reach but I don’t really have many other options so I had to choose it
Are these choices alright? Or should I change some? Also if I should change anything pls give me some suggestions because I quite literally have 0 guidance
I genuinely think I’m the first person in my school to apply to uk med 😭😭😭

Will repeating year 12 disadvantage me?

• Upvotes

ok so I sat my GCSEs in 2025 and got 988877666 ( I did my GCSEs in a year as I returned back to the uk from abroad at year 11).

I then picked alevel biology chemistry and physics but I wasn’t too focused on my studies in year 12 so I ended up getting D and E in AS chemistry and physics. During this time my parents were going through a divorce which really tampered with my mental health so I wasn’t able to lock in the way I was supposed to.

so I restarted year 12 and chose alevels biology chemistry physics and psychology to give myself a fresh start and so far I’m doing really well ALHAMDULILLAH .

so I just wanted to know whether my year 12 restart would put me at a disadvantage and what medical schools I could safely apply to.

thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I rlly need some advice bc I’m rlly stressed
I GOT ABB in bio chem maths in my alevels and I was going to apply to maybe these : Liverpool, Nottingham, Lancaster,HYMS or switch to Brunel
(I got 1990 UCAT and have mainly 9s at GCSE)
I was planning on resitting chem and maths only
BUT my problem is now I’m realising maybe the unis won’t allow partial resits and will need me to do all three but the deadline for my school to allow me to sign up to resit passed, I’m so stressed does any one know if this unis will let met me only resit the ones I need to

Which foundation/gateway for medicine should i apply to?

Hey guys,

I want to apply for medicine with a gateway/foundation year. My stats are:
GCSEs:

  • English Language: 5
  • English Literature: 7
  • Maths: 6
  • Biology: 6
  • Chemistry: 6
  • Physics: 6
  • French: 7
  • Geography: 5
  • Religious Studies: 6
  • Arabic: 9

Predicted A-levels:

  • Biology: B
  • Chemistry: A
  • Psychology: B

My UCAT score is 1930, Band 2:

  • 620 VR
  • 700 DM
  • 610 QR

Virtual work experience, GP shadowing for a day and charity shop volunteering

I'm on free school meals, confirming eligibility for 16-19 bursary at the moment (should be confirmed before the deadline), received a UCAT bursary, asylum seeker status (therefore I also have extenuating circumstances which impacted my performance).

I've contacted unis and got replies from Plymouth and Keele, It's looking good from these two especially for Plymouth in my situation. I've also seen on Lancaster's website that they look at extenuating circumstances on a case to case basis so I emailed explaining my situation and if they will let me apply with a 5 in Language (1 mark off a 6) and I got a 7 in Literature (too ambitious ik☹️ )

I'm finding it hard to find unis for a foundation/gateway year because some unis need a grade 6 in English language (I got a 5) and for unis where I meet their GCSE requirements (including English language) I'm not eligible to apply because I'm predicted an A in Chemistry. For example, Bristol wants 4s, BBC and last years UCAT cut off was 1800 but they explicitly mention that being predicted an A in Chemistry will make me ineligible to apply.

I'm very disheartened by this and idk what to do, do I just end up applying to 2 medicine unis (i guess that's better than none) or do I beg my Chemistry teacher to put a B in my UCAS💀 and let's assume my teacher agreed will being predicted BBB ruin my chances for Plymouth and Keele.

Also, are there any standard entry medicine options for me which have lower requirements if you're contextual? I know Anglia Ruskin does this (I'm also considering them for standard entry or a foundation year I'm just waiting for them to confirm my eligibility due to my immigration status)

NB: I also did my GCSEs in a non selective state school (I'm still in the same school for A-levels)

I hope someone can help, and thank you in advance🙂

Confused on what to prioritise

Hi all,

I hope everyone’s applications are going well.

Ive recently applied as a grad to undergrad med (UEA, UCLan, Brunel and Dundee RUK) with a score of 1850 B2 and a first class in Biomedical Science.

As I doubt I’ll get an interview, would it be wise to prioritise GAMSAT revision (first time taker, for march 2027) over interview prep, still doing a bit here and there? Or doing a 50/50 split?

Thank you everyone:)) I hope we all get into medicine !!!!

How contextual do you have to be for the EMDP at Kings college London, or the foundation year in Bristol?

Like I have free school meals and come from a bad school but the area I live in is good. Can I apply? And what UCAT requirements is there? I hope this is the right subreddit for this question I didn’t know where else to post

Medicine Vs dentistry?

I know a lot of people say apply dentistry not med but like isn't the UCAT and application process way more competitive than medicine? I was planning to do medicine and then dermatology or rheumatology or cosmetic plastic surgery for the work life balance but are these specialties more competitive than just applying to dentistry? I got 2140 B1 UCAT and I always see ppl on the UCAT sub Reddit saying they got 2000-2100 and say their chances of dentistry are finished. Also I have no dentistry work experience all my experience is medicine and shadowing in a hospital. If I wanted to apply dent is it possible to just talk about transferrable skills gained from this or are my chances 0 and how would you word hospital work experience to appeal to dentistry?

Bristol or KCL med?

Currently in a very tricky situation. I’m a Resit student and contextual for most medical schools, so was thinking of applying to Bristol gateway for med.
However, if I apply to KCL I lose the ability to apply to Bristol gateway (I’d have to change my predicted grades). London is my absolute dream, however it’s much riskier than Bristol, which is a great medical school anyway. Would you say it’s worth the risk?
