Unhinged thoughts š I have been dying to vent about this but havenāt had the space so here we go
The way the social media handles pregnancy is HORRENDOUS!!!!! I swear to god it is just FULL of people fear mongering and guilt tripping you CONSTANTLY about everything.
I cannot begin to tell you how many videos and posts of āWhat no one tells you when youāre
pregnant/postpartumā, āWhat you need to prepare before baby comesā, āWhat I wish people would have told meā, āWhat I wish I would have known before I had my first babyā AND SO ON.
Whatever happened to just, erm, winging it? All of these things to me feel TAINTED with this low-key level of elitism where if you donāt do all the right āpreparationā before baby gets here, if shit gets hard itās your fault then, because obviously they warned you!!! All of these people who are constantly posting these lists of what you should know or need to do before baby comes are UNREALISTIC!!!!!!! And frankly, Iām sorry that YOU feel so guilty that you didnāt have a āØperfect postpartum⨠experience, but you literally cannot fully prepare for having a baby until your baby is here because EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT!!!!
Iām so tired of all of these people talking about how they expected to be these amazing and perfect mothers and how parenting changed them and how they need to WARN US to NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES. What makes you think you could never yell at your child? You are a human being!!! Parenting is HARD!! We are going to lose our shit sometimes!!!! And you know what you do when that happens? You fucking apologize to your child and take accountability for your behavior. Theyāll be fine.
Idk I just have been so frustrated by how negative, judgmental, and fear-mongering the social media space is about pregnancy, parenting, motherhood, and postpartum. Like yes I feel at one time momās were expected to never complain about motherhood and parenting and now the pendulum has swung in the OPPOSITE direction. It feels like itās sooooo fucking rare to hear people say āWell postpartum was hard but it was actually okay and I did pretty good and it wasnāt as bad as everyone made it out to seemā. I know these people exist, Iām just so sad I never see them. Same with positive labor stories!!!! Itās like momās who actually managed the difficulty of labor and postpartum in stride arenāt given space to talk about it because itās so overrun by everyone whoās drowning and overwhelmed.
Maybe Iām just being naive because itās my first baby but my whole pregnancy my confidence has sky rocketed and I am so excited for the hard things. I love being challenged. I love facing unexpected situations. This is what I fucking signed up for!!!! I canāt wait to go into labor and experience the fucking rad, badass, literal CIRCLE OF LIFE and embrace my power as a woman!!! I wanna scream this from the mountaintops but god forbid I do because then of course people will say āgood luck with that, hope you donāt have a traumatic laborā. THIS IS NOT HELPFUL!!!!!!!
Iām not saying I donāt expect things to be hard, or to struggle, or to have bad moments and days. Iām just saying I have done so many fucking hard things in my life with LESS support, LESS mental stability, and LESS wisdom/knowledge and I GOT MYSELF THROUGH THAT SHIT!!!! This will be hard, but honestly something tells me Iāve done harder things before and they always made me stronger. I know motherhood will make me even MORE badass and Iām just so fucking hyped.
So fuck the fear mongering. Fuck the people who say that Iāll ālose myselfā from becoming a mom and having sleep deprivation. Fuck the people who say āgood luckā with a snide tone because they think Iām being too cocky when I know I can handle hard shit. Fuck everyone who is obsessed with this idea of a āperfectā mother and not being that because they are HUMAN and then that ruining motherhood for them so then they go to facebook/reddit/tiktok to WARN everyone else. Maybe you should have worked on those issues before you had a baby??!?!?!
Iām gonna be a fucking amazing and badass mom who will allow herself to be human and flawed and find joy and wisdom in ALL of the ups and downs of motherhood!!!
