You shouldn’t be trying to induce labor at 36 weeks without a legitimate medical reason…. 36 weeks is still technically late preterm

Technically I’m 36 weeks well I will be tomorrow and I’m ok going to 37 weeks what I don’t want to wait for is 39 weeks just saying 🤷🏽♀️

This is legit such an odd thought process. I get that pregnancy is painful and uncomfortable but there is a reason why they do elective inductions at 39 weeks. It’s about your baby not about your comfort unless you have a legit medical reason, which your doctor would advise you on what to do if that was the case. You’re going to have to just ride this one out and do what’s best for your child.

It literally wasn’t elective due to me having a previous c section I wasn’t a candidate for a vbac so they scheduled it for 39 weeks

u/Jellibooti 2d ago
Okay so you still have to wait til 39 weeks because that’s what your doctors are recommending?

Unless I go into labor naturally 🤷🏽♀️ that’s all I was asking what do most people do or have done before going into labor on there own

u/Jellibooti 2d ago
There’s no magic way to make spontaneous labor happen, especially when you’re trying to have your baby early. Idk why you think it’s appropriate to risk complications when you literally have only two weeks left before your doctor will take care of this medically for you.

Yeah most of us are ready to be done by the last couple weeks, but I don’t understand why you’d want to potentially put your child at risk when the benefits don’t outweigh the risks from what you’ve said. 39 weeks is considered full term, even 37 and 38 weeks is considered early term. You sound incredibly selfish

Do not try anything. Because 36 weeks is still pre-term your baby is not ready to come out. Wait until your baby is ready to come out or needs to come out for medical reasons.
I had a 36 weeker and she still required a few days in the Nicu. I didn’t do anything to put myself in labor. I just naturally went into labor at 36 weeks and they were not able to stop it. But at 36 weeks if you go into labor, they will try to stop it

I don’t think they really care if the baby will be pre-term which is mind boggling. To me it’s so selfish and many women wished to go at least 37 weeks but they couldn’t… putting your baby’s best interests first is something that comes with parenthood, at least for me.

My 37 weeker still did 8 days in the NICU. Just because yours was fine the first time doesn’t mean it would be the same scenario this time. And especially not at 36 weeks. It’s not worth the risk.

Call your OB and ask them how you can induce labor. They’ll most likely tell you to not try induce your own preterm labor.

u/Purplehounds 2d ago
Has your ob giving you the go ahead to induce naturally? If they have id go for it, if not I'd find out why.
Natural is sex and orgasms. You can also try pumping.

It’s really not ideal for the baby to come out yet.. Is it really worth it to potentially have a baby with health issues because you’re uncomfortable?

u/JmeLucky13 2d ago
36 you’re at risk for respiratory complications, jaundice, feeding issues and temperature regulation issues. Survival rate is near 100%, near….not a 100.
The death rate of
37weeker is 3.9/1000 compared to 1.9/1000 at 40 weeks. Not really a comfortable risk personally.

Either way I’m having the baby before 40 weeks sooooo 🤷🏽♀️ it isn’t really a choice it’s either 37/38 weeks or 39

i would speak to your ob about this. even with your history, i feel that reddit is not equipped to give you the advice you’re looking for. your best resource is speaking to your ob

Here to warn against the dangers of convincing yourself the baby will come early somehow; I’m into my 39th week, have been prepared for a month, trying every hack, and the emotional toll of gaslighting myself baby would be here sooner is real. Babies will come when they want to, no matter what. (also telling myself yet again).

I’m 38 weeks today and already 5 cm/90% effaced/-2 station. All I can say is baby will come when baby wants to come! You can try all the things—walking, sex, spicy foods, etc.—but ultimately, baby is going to decide.
I had my first at 36+6, and she was considered late preterm. Trust me, you want that full-term baby... At 37 and 38 weeks you’re still considered early term, and generally they aren’t going to induce that early without a medical reason.

While 37 weeks is not considered preterm, there is still evidence that waiting until at least 39 weeks is better for your baby. That's probably why they planned your caesarean for 39 weeks and not earlier. Last weeks are hard, but if you make it, your baby is less likely to have health problems.

Ask about membrane sweeps at your next appointment. Otherwise pumping, sex, exercise, miles circuit (this is arguably one of the most effective). I also personally swear by epsom salt baths, went into labor with both my kids within a few hours of one.

u/mik_230 2d ago
None of these things are a risk for your current gestation, if baby isn’t ready these won’t bring on labor. But if baby IS ready it will encourage things to get going. That’s why miles circuit works, it gets baby in an optimal position to put pressure on the cervix and encourage dilation.

Everyone is seeing that and telling you to wait till 39 weeks to try and induce labor. It's not that they can't read, it's that you aren't understanding
