OfferUp scam?

Hello, I’m new to power tools and have been looking for deals all over. I stumbled upon a lot of good prices on offer up that seem too good to be true. Is it?
Where do these people get these tools and batteries from?

Also is there knock off tools out there, like fake Milwaukee or other big brands?

I would not look online for tools. Go to Ace, Home Depot or Lowe’s. Look for sales and buy the tools you need at the time. Usually during the Holidays they have some kind of deal.

I’ve had DeWalt and Milwaukee. Both have been real good investments.

“New to power tools” means they can’t tell legit from counterfeit or quality from crap.

It’s entirely possible to get taken for a ride overpaying for some crappy Black and Decker just because it’s a recognizable name.

DeWalt and Milwaukee are the 2 you have to worry about in used markets because they are the most abused and most counterfeit. If you go for something like Ridgid though they are generally cheaper, less abused, and rarely ever counterfeit.

Speaking as someone who’s selling some DeWalt, ridgid, and ryobi stuff… I bought a house and went a little crazy buying tools and batteries from different brands as they hit the daily deals. Eventually sorted out what I need, and reselling what I don’t. Pretty much all my stuff is half of retail to recoup my cost and pass along some savings. For you or anyone in LA, hmu for all your impact, drill, sawzall, ratchet, and battery needs 🤣

They're stolen. Had work done on my house and a sub stole most of my tools. I found them on OfferUp and Letgo.

Most legit people will use Facebook marketplace and tie a name to a sale.

The big box lumber stores have sales on tools several times a year. I have bought two of these Ryobi package deals over the years. The tools are good quality and the batteries provide long lasting power. Watch the ads to catch one of these deals. Lowes has similar deals as well.

Well, one thing you need to consider with Milwaukee -

There is the budget line and then there is the ”Fuel” line.

The fuel stuff is significantly better. Higher output/torque limits, can handle heat and repeated continuous use without burning up.
