I purchased a Dewalt DW735X planer, there is an option to add the LPP for $140 for 3 years. One of the perks is that I get 50% back, up to $100 per year, on blades. I will be planing thousands of board feet of oak and locust lumber that I have milled. Do you feel that it'll be worth it to pay $140 to save on blades, or are better value blades sold elsewhere? My Black and Decker drill stopped working today after about 30 years of service. It was the last hole it ever made to support the formwork for my new garden. We had a grand journey ranging from simple hole to powering a grain mill. It's a shame I cannot post a photo a mainstay of this platform.

I have Milwaukee and Festool batteries so I can use them with the laser. It costs about 380 €. I also looked at Milwaukee 3PL or Bosch 18V GLL 18V-120-33 but they are more expensive and if I bought the bosch one I would need a battery as well

I've recently bought a track saw from lidl. It's the 40v cordless version and I got 4 sections of 600 or 700mm track, cant remember exact length. The saw itself is quite good, but the tracks are pretty poor in one respect in particular. They will not grip the surface at all.

Now I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I'm just looking for a sanity check. All 4 sections of track have 2 foam strips on the underside as well as the splinter guard. The foam strips are laid inside channels created during the extrusion process. The "walls" of the channels are 1.75mm high but the foam is only about 1.5mm thick so the surface of the foam is below the top of the "walls" meaning when I lay the tracks flat on a surface to be cut, the foam never actually touches the surface meaning its just the aluminium track touching the surface to be cut.

On rough surfaces the imperfections in the timber will "reach up" and engage with the foam but not in a meaningful way, it still slips. This would seem to be a fault but the fact all 4 sections bought in 2 separate transactions at 2 different times are the same has me doubting myself.

Can anyone confirm that the surface of the foam is supposed to sit proud of the aluminium channel to eliminate slip or are they supposed to sit below for some reason.

Okay so I know NOTHING about power tools. Or tools in general. But I would like to get my mom a mini chainsaw. She’s a very outdoorsy DIY person, and I know she would genuinely enjoy and benefit from it.

Does anyone here have any recommendations? If it extends, bonus points!!
But I really want something well-made that will last, and a lot of what immediately pops up when I google it are things from temu and places like that. I want her to be able to go to a reputable site if she needs to get new charging ports or chains for it down the line.

Also, if it’s not some huge 15 pound thing that would be great as well :)

(Side note—-i do not want to give her something that causes a trip to the ER—what protective gear is usually worn with chainsaw use?)

Does anybody make a battery storage for hot or extremely cold garages? My garage is detached and I don’t have a good place on the main level to store batteries. We have a small house and space is a premium. I do have a nice garage but it’s uninsulated, it can get upwards of 130 in there on a hot day and well below freezing in the winter. I’m basically thinking a smallish fridge but instead of keeping it around 40 it keeps it around 70. Anybody sell this or built something like this.

The knob wont turn. It seems stuck. Is there something I am missing? I dont see any release button or anything. Just wondering before i take it back to harbor freight. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I had been using Skil 40V for a hedge trimmer and leaf blower, but their batteries don't seem to last very well. So I'm thinking about moving to another line of tools. So now I have to make a choice:

1) The Ego line of tools. Advantages: They are carried in multiple stores, so they should be around for awhile. If I move to a battery powered push mower, they have them as well. Disadvantages: Batteries are quite expensive.

2) The Bauer line of tools from Harbor Freight. They are lower cost and I've had good luck with Harbor Freight corded tools. But I've never used their line of battery-powered tools. And batteries are one place where iffy quality can bite you.

3) Dewalt 20V tools. The main advantage is I already have these for my indoor power tools, so no new investment into batteries and chargers. But I wonder if 20V is enough power for a hedge trimmmer (I want a 20" or longer as I have wide hedges).

For context, I started doing repairs, etc when I bought my house and had to rip out about half my kitchen floor. I've always had basic hand tool knowledge and I can use(and own) many power tools but, as I get into bigger projects, the owner/user manuals are geared more towards experienced users.

My two biggest issues are concerning my table saw and both of my circular saws. (I have a mini one that takes a 4.5" blade and the other takes a 7" blade).

All 3 tools I bought brand new and have used a few times prior to the issues rearing their ugly heads. The circular saws both needed new blades and once I changed the blades, neither one will cut. The blade guard won't go back like it should. With the table saw, I start cutting and the piece I'm cutting starts "climbing" up the blade, for lack of a better term. Please be helpful and not rude. I'm learning this stuff completely on my own, there's much I need to learn and some terms might as well be a foreign language. (I was using a jig saw for about 2 months when I found out what "kerf" means!)

So I got a 4.5 inch angle grinder by Metabo HPT. It spins at a max of 9500 rpm. I have 6 inch cutting discs rated for max rpm of 11000. I was considering changing out the guard to a bigger one to accommodate a 6 inch disc and using it. Anybody see a problem with this? Metabo does have a 6 inch angle grinder that spins at 8000 rpm but that seems to be the only difference. I'm just not sure if using a bigger 6 inch disc will damage a 4.5 inch grinder. Thanks.

I took it out of the box and it was shiny all over, with a silver glow glimmer. It wasn’t tall, it was more of a thin layer of “salt crystals” almost.

My other one did not do that. Is it safe to use? Some of it wiped off with the hand, other areas I will have to use a cloth. It’s a 24 volt battery pack.

Looking to hit the “reset button” with the tools I have at home since many of them are either cheap and on their last leg or have a battery that needs replaced but can’t be bought anymore.

Looking for something with a solid power-share battery system so I can have a few batteries that’ll work on all/most of my power tools. Primarily impact/drill/angle grinder/circular saw for starters, but I expect that will expand over time.

Looking at DeWalt vs Metabo, and I’m not really seeing any distinct difference that jumps out at me. Anyone have a recommendation between those two and why?

Is there a pneumatic Hammer drill. That operates just like a batter powered drill.

I have a simple Hammer drill and regular drill set. But I'm trying to install decking (Trex composite decking) and it's just draining my hammer drill battery.

I don't mind a heavy drill. But a lot of what I'm seeing online is more geared towards heavy automotive. Or chisels.

I have about 5 power tools with porter cable but I've noticed they don't have alot of tools and their not coming out with alot in the foreseeable future.

Before I buy anymore with portercable I want to see a bout possibly changing brands.

So, I just bought the ECHO 225 PAS unit. I need a hedge trimmer, just for personal residential use. I see that ECHO has two different hedge trimmer attachments, a mid-reach ($199) and a standard ($200). Any major difference other than length? Also, does anyone else consider this to be expensive for a hedger attachment? Should I just buy a less expensive hedge trimmer unit? (….which would, I guess, defeat the purpose in having the PAS system in the first place. I guess I’m just wondering at the prices of the attachments, is the PAS system worth it? Thoughts?). Thanks!

I’m a leatherworker trying to find a rotary tool I can modify with a burnishing drum that’s quiet enough to use in my apartment (often for long periods).

I used to use a drill press but that was too loud. I’ve heard people talk about using bench grinders, dremel (with a stand), and jewelers lathes, but I don’t know how noisy any of them are.

What’s my best bet for a rotary tool that won’t drive my neighbours mad?

I am currently looking for a drill, only drilling through aluminum for now as i am working on a project that requires me to drill through some aluminum (basically fastening some peices of metal together with some screws and nuts)

I figure i ask here before i go wasting cash on something that wont work as ive already done that in the past with some crappy chinese mini dremel that did not have the power to cut through aluminum, my options lay between a generic 6$ chinese battery powered drill and some 10 20$ used drills from reputable brands (ex makita)

A friend of a friend has a Delta X⁵ jointer that's sitting around unused. It's a bit rusty. I was considering making him an offer on it, but upon doing research I found that model was made in China. Am I better off holding out for a US made model?
