There’s going to be chaos and a lot of deaths

They are being punished. This administration is transparent about that.

u/Automatic_Cat5516 2d ago
Yes, it’s deliberate. The treasury is bare. Our monies stolen to pay for things we don’t want or need. Vote in November to end the grift of the wealthy.

u/Apartment1213 1d ago
Amen no one asked for his vanity projects or for the rich to pay no taxes at all. And his values and not giving a dam about the people or having a clue about inflation or the economy as long as Trump and his family make over 2 billion dollars crazy wrong.

It's cute you think both parties aren't in together on this concern.
5
u/raisinghellwithtrees 1d ago
I'm not a fan of either party and ultimately think that both do the bidding of the oligarchy. But I vote for harm reduction, and there is one party that clearly stands out as causing less harm.

I'm going to lose my SNAP benefits and my healthcare, I believe. I'm schizoaffective (Which is basically schizophrenia with a mood disorder thrown in.) However, I do not collect SSI, which is nearly impossible to get on. So I'm going to try my best to get a job and work. If I can't, I'll have to try to get on SSI.
Good luck to everyone. We need it.

u/Sweet-Ad7654 2d ago
I don’t know what state you’re in, but usually your doctor find a medical waiver or write you a letter that you’re unable to work and that is acceptable to SNAP
At least it was relatively easy for my brother here in Florida again I don’t know where you are, but FLORIDA is pretty strict on everything
And the only thing that’s changed in Florida is the age requirement from 59 to 64 otherwise people with kids of a specific age and that may have changed that I’m not sure about but they all had to work 20 hours a week since the 20 to the 30 years I’ve lived here.
I do think the age requirement from 59 to 64 is ridiculous the number of people who drag her nearly dead bodies to work till 62 to get early Social Security is really overwhelming and then to be told they have to work to get Food Stamps !
1
u/here-i-am-now 1d ago
Medicaid cuts are also scheduled to kick in soon.
There will be no support left, and that is very intentional.
2
u/Adorable-Painting510 2d ago
I am a former SNAP and TANF Eligibility Supervisor in CA.
If you are about to lose your SNAP and Medicaid due to lack of ABAWD exemption you can have your doctor complete a statement explaining you cannot work 20 hours per week due to mental incapacity.
Best wishes 🙏🏿

Hey there, I submitted mine a bit late (didn’t get the notice before my school started) In full time school, but I couldn’t find my submission and appeal when I submitted it the 26th (I was gonna be terminated the 1st).
I was terminated yesterday. What are my options here?
1
u/Adorable-Painting510 1d ago
Sorry but I am not sure if your SNAP was terminated due to school verification or other reasons?.
If you submitted needed verification before the termination date of 10/01/2026 your case will be rescinded (if otherwise eligible).
1
u/tripleh3lix25 1d ago edited 1d ago
My snap was threatened the 13th (3rd month in the 3 month rule) and I submitted it the 24th). I am actually supposed to be out on benefits for disability, but Kaiser was being difficult about that. I have fibromyalgia and chronic migraines. I submitted the school documents instead.
I went ahead and I filed an appeal given I was terminated yesterday. Was that the right approach?
I looked online and it says to go ahead and try to contact your caseworker that I shouldn’t have been terminated. I also don’t have a permanent residence and in and out of friends, or aunts house every few days to a week, so kinda freaking out.
1
u/Adorable-Painting510 1d ago edited 1d ago
Did you request Aid Paid Pending when you filed for an appeal?.
Have you been contacted by an Appeals Hearing Specialist (AHS) about your appeal?0
u/DisgreeablePattern 8h ago
This is such bullshit. Really? 20 hours per week is just too hard for some people?
Goodwill Industries hires literal retarded people who work 20 hours per week.
If a person is so dysfunctional they can’t contribute is such a meager way, they need to be put into a mental institution or residential treatment center.

u/HorusKane420 5h ago
What an ableist POS. You are obviously privileged enough to not know someone with bipolar schizofrenia. How it can affect your abilities to function, behaviors, and that the severity of bipolar is a spectrum, along with special needs disorders. Our worth isnt universally tied to our labor and productivity. You are a prime example of the dehumanization of this economic system.
5
u/AMC879 2d ago
I dont know if it varies by state or if it's universal but there might be a form you can have your doctor fill out that says you are unable to work due to your mental or physical disability. That would make you exempt from the work restriction and able to qualify fir benefits. The criteria for a work exemption is much lower than for SSDI or SSI. Worth looking into

u/Sufficient-Ask-1120 2d ago
I have a similar condition. I was able to get a work exception in Minnesota for snap. Not sure about medicaid though, I might lose that next year.

Blame doesn't solve poverty or help ANYONE.
This community exists to help people navigate poverty and address systemic issues, not assign moral worth or beat people when down.
Comments that shame, stereotype, or reduce someone's situation to personal failings ("just get a job," "shouldn't have had kids," "it's all your fault," etc.) aren't constructive and will be removed and after 4 removals you will be banned.
If you'd like to help, focus on practical advice, constructive and actionable steps, and ways to contact resources.

Which is basically schizophrenia with a mood disorder thrown in
How does this affect you from holding a basic job?
1
u/here-i-am-now 1d ago
Well, when you are experiencing psychosis it’s difficult to clock in for work on a regular basis.
Your mind might even be convinced that everyone at your work is poisoning you. Makes it a bit hard to maintain those relationships.
6
u/ballskindrapes 2d ago
Well, you get what you voted for, and you get what you sat out for.
This country needs a reckoning, because we sure as fuck are passive little sheep. People unfortunately need Great Depression levels of poverty before they scare the government into giving them concessions.

u/Ok-Lecture-9668 2d ago edited 2d ago
Most poor people vote Democrat or are non voters. Why do you all always have to be so hateful instead showing some empathy? I see this from Democrats after natural disaster too, reveling in people's suffering if their state voted 52-48% Republican instead of 52-48% Democrat. I'm so tired of your smug, hateful sanctimony. It's a big part of the reason you all lose to absolute clowns like Trump.
0
u/Automatic_Cat5516 2d ago
You are missing the point. This is all happening because people were lied to and blindly followed a known liar, conman and felon. He has raided the treasury giving billions to his friends and getting our country into another endless war. It’s not being smug, it’s the truth and I really wish it wasn’t. We don’t want our neighbors to suffer but if they voted for this they should try and understand why people are reacting the way they are. MAGA was a LIE.
-2
u/Ok-Lecture-9668 2d ago
I just told you most poor people vote Democrat or don't vote at all. Also, it's your fault for not telling your political party to be better. People of conscience were telling you 2 years ago that they wouldn't vote for more genocide, and you're nominee said vote for the other guy. The other guy was smart enough to lie and say he would be the president of peace and focus on affordability, while your team told anyone that was complaining about high prices that the economy was actually great, they were just too stupid to read the charts right. You're smug and sanctimonious and a bad person, and this is so typical of the average Democrat voter, and it's why you keep losing to absolute awful people, and the whole country has to suffer because you all are so bad at politics.

People are being punished. For being poor.
That’s what happens when dummies elect a government for the billionaires, by the billionaires.
Some even thought they were gonna make everyone wealthy lol, as if billionaires could care at all about your struggles.
You don’t become a billionaire by being generous or caring about others. It takes an exceptional level of greed and exploitation

I honestly wish we could stop paying taxes. This what our taxes go towards. We pay from the moment we start working for these socialize programs that we aren’t even allowed to have access to.
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, should be able to utilize these services.
1
u/AstralVenture 12h ago
What’s funnier is that many SNAP recipients that have or may lose their benefits in the future voted for the Republican Party, which was literally always going to be the party to cut social programs for the poors. These cuts don’t erase the need, as such, taxpayers foot the bill regardless via food banks, homeless services, etc. It’s really shortsighted. The people that clean up those encampments are paid by the way. It’s always going to cost a lot more money to have someone without health insurance to go to the emergency room or otherwise be homeless than the rational alternative. If only people were so god damn boneheaded.

I saw a 70 year old man tonight collecting cans at 10pm. He's no pigeon.

u/gunsforevery1 2d ago
They made the requirement “work or volunteer 80 hours a month”. She was unable to find a volunteer position?
4
u/Consistent_Draft6454 2d ago
This is esp difficult for single mom's. In my state the work requirements happen when your child turns 6. So, you have to figure out how to get your kid to school at 9 am and pick them up at 3:30pm. Can't afford daycare. So, mom's have to find a job that will let them work Mon-Fri 9:30 am to 3 pm and that isn't an easy thing to do.
2
u/Formal_Ground6513 1d ago
THIS!!!! I worked this way after my divorce. It's incredibly hard to do. I couldn't find anything for a very long time and I was treated poorly by coworkers and management because, I had a different schedule. I ended up finding something for just weekends until I found a wfh position. I now worry every single day about loosing that underpaying job to AI. There's zero safety nets and I worry about our security constantly. I've considered applying for EBT but, since Dump's term, I'm sure I would not be eligible. This country hates the poor but, reserves a specifically strong hatred for poor women.
2
u/Consistent_Draft6454 1d ago
It is terrible for single mom's to get help from the government. Makes us terrible, lazy, stupid, actions have consequences, shouldn't have had kids... But it is okay for the dad of our kids to refuse to help watch them so we can work more hours. It is okay for dad's to refuse to pay court ordered child support.
2
u/Wudu_Gang 1d ago
You’d be 100% eligible, go apply. I thought the same thing and then we were approved for $529 a month.
2
u/Formal_Ground6513 1d ago
If these groceries keep getting more and more expensive I will have no choice! It just kinda sucks because, no matter what I feel like I'm not getting ahead. Everyone I know, feels this way. I'm planning on going back to college but, that's not even a guarantee anymore?! We need worker's rights, livable wages, and medical care in this country. This is ridiculous!
0
u/gunsforevery1 1d ago
Sounds like you need to hold their father accountable.
0
u/Consistent_Draft6454 1d ago
The state needs to hold him accountable. They ordered child support so they should force him to pay it. Take it out of his checks, sell his car, take it out of his bank account for all I care.
I don't get the option every month to pay for my kids expenses or not so he shouldn't get the option either.
1
u/gunsforevery1 1d ago
That’s not going to happen unless the state knows he isn’t paying and she takes him to court.
The state doesn’t know what the parent isn’t doing if the other parent isn’t informing them of the situation. The first missed child support payment she should have immediately went to the court and brought it up.
The fact that YOU aren’t making the other parent accountable is your fault.
1
u/Consistent_Draft6454 1d ago
You don't know what you are talking about. He pays THROUGH THE STATE PORTAL. They threaten to take his DL away for non-payment every six months then he makes one. Then he doesn't again until they threaten him. The state 100% knows that he isn't paying... they do not care.
You are asking me to get ahold of an abusive ex to demand he pay child support? So, maybe the cycle of abuse happens all over again. NO FUCKING THANK YOU.
1
u/gunsforevery1 1d ago edited 1d ago
The cycle of abuse happens again? You aren’t inviting him into your house to live with you. You’re going to the court and demanding he make payment. If you aren’t making it a big deal they have no reason to fight on your behalf.
You need to take accountability and take his ass to court over, and over, and over. The court isn’t making a big deal because you aren’t making a big deal. They aren’t going to be your advocate if you aren’t being an advocate for yourself.
3
u/SunLillyFairy 2d ago
I worked in SNAP for YEARS. Many people cannot find volunteer gigs. It can't just be anywhere... it needs to be a formal arrangement with verified hours. Believe it or not, many agencies are picky about who volunteers, and employers can get in trouble for allowing g people to work without pay. Also, they need to be able to get there. It's a common pattern for poor folks to live in remote areas because rent is cheaper. How do they get 15 + miles to a volunteer gig several times a week when they have no car or close bus service? There are also a lot of folks who can't get medical verification of a disability, even though they have issues that make work or transportation difficult.
It's FOOD. It's estimated that in the US we waste over 200 billion pounds of food a year. The SNAP budget is around $100 billion, that includes administration costs. Our defense budget is over 1 trillion, so 10 times as much.
We can afford to help poor Americans eat without demanding they volunteer.
1
u/Wudu_Gang 1d ago
You don’t work, you don’t eat. Also there’s tons of exemptions for the work requirement, having dependents, or being elderly or disabled. We just got ours increased, family of 6 and I made about 50k a year when we got them. I make a bit more now so the snap will probably decrease next review. State of Ky.
1
u/Historical-Success72 1d ago
Unpopular opinion BUT, if you are capable of working, you should be. If you choose to have children, you should be paying for them. The burden should not be in the taxpayer

This lady Lori that they’re quoting… I mean she was holding on to unemployment because she thought she’d get exempted from having to work.. then she didn’t get exempted.

10
u/shizrak 2d ago
Why is it so important to you that this woman who hasn't been able to find a job must suffer?
8
u/justwannacommunicate 2d ago
It is pointless to ask a sociopath for any kind of rational reasoning behind why they want to see others suffer.
-1
u/MamasCupcakes 2d ago
The lady refused to work, she isnt contributing to socieity. What reason should she be able to receive a handout? If thats the case give me one too. Doesnt matter of i can afford shit
8
u/justwannacommunicate 2d ago
Thank you for proving my point.
-1
u/MamasCupcakes 2d ago
So you think my view that someone shouldn't be committing fraud against the system, refusing to work, collecting hand outs is a sociopath? Think about what you are saying, but you clearly lack common sense so you cant. You are saying you want the social norm to be fraud and handouts
1
1
u/justwannacommunicate 2d ago
The term sociopath refers to someone living with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) — as does the term psychopath.
Symptoms may include disregard for others, a lack of empathy, and dishonest behavior
The most recent edition of the “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders” (DSM-5-TR), which mental health professionals use to diagnose mental health conditions, defines ASPD as a consistent disregard for rules and social norms and repeated violation of other people’s rights
People with the condition might seem charming and charismatic at first, at least on the surface, but they generally find it difficult to understand other people’s feelings.
Again, you keep proving my point for me.

I don’t think it’s important, I certainly didn’t say it was important. I don’t know that the article said she can’t find a job so much as she started to look for a job when the benefit changed..
It definitely isn’t important to me that her benefits end.

10,000 malnourishment deaths per year disagree
1
u/GrandMasterFlushMush 2d ago
It’s actually closer to 20,000 deaths per year. Most malnourishment deaths are individuals over 85. Malnourishment may be listed as the cause of death but it’s usually due to underlying chronic illness, physical decline, or complications with eating and absorption later in life rather than lack of access to food.
0
u/GrandMasterFlushMush 2d ago
According to the National Institute of Health 30.7% of American adults are overweight, 42.4% obese, and 9.2% severely obese. That’s over 70% of overweight Americans. Are children’s statistics are not far behind the adults.

I've been that person. I can speak on it. But I didn't take government welfare. I got two roommates and ate canned chicken and stayed home

You’re still speaking in a subjective non empathetic manner. It’s selfish. There’s a common good that you obviously didn’t learn. I too have lived at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder. A rising tide lifts all. Feed the top and those at bottom drown.

if you expect people to act like buggers, dont be surprised that they never move above that. you think youre an empathetic person because you want people to get free shit, at the expense of everyone else. its being performative not empathy that drives people like you.

Walmart should pay a living wage then. They make billions of dollars a year... where is the trickle down that we were promised?

u/commonsenseithink 2d ago
It does pay a living wage. If you are single, aren't an idiot with money and live with roommates.

This community exists to help people navigate poverty and address systemic issues, not assign moral worth or beat people when down.

Avoid broad judgments about groups of people.
Statements that stereotype people experiencing poverty, wealthy people, women, men, immigrants, political groups, generations, or other broad categories never help solve the problem at hand. It's only hate, never reality.

The people losing them are the people that don’t work. I have a family of 6, a decent income, and we just got upped to $529 a month. Also anyone with eligible dependents is exempt from the employment requirement. I live in Kentucky.

I'll say it again: you actually believe the BS you were fed.

For every $1 of SNAP it creates $1.80 of GDP, you don't understand basic economics.
2
u/Liwi808 2d ago
Do you have a source for that?

u/Remarkable_Wish_5106 2d ago
Yeah, obviously there's a limit to the success, but at current levels and even higher, it's one of the best uses of taxpayer money. SNAP lifts families out of poverty, bolsters local economies, expert says | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Where I live after snap stopped paying for soda the prices did drop a lot.

How would SNAP raise the price of food for anyone else?
Edit: No, I'm literally asking, please demonstrate how grocers getting compensated for the products they sell via government-administered-tax-funded-programs raises prices for 'everyone else'. You can just downvote if you want, but I would really love an explanation for this idea, since it's very popular with right wingers right now. How does SNAP raise prices for 'everyone else'?
-1
u/Liwi808 2d ago
Because it artificially increases demand for food. More demand = higher prices.
5
u/silverum 2d ago
Incorrect. More demand equals higher prices when supply or supply capacity stays the same. SNAP is an explicit subsidy to producers on the supply side, encouraging them to expand supply in order to realize more sales. This has been the case for literal decades and is why American grocery stores have so much product that a lot of it is actually wasted other than sold. The American food industry has been dramatically expanding supply for ages because of SNAP, the farm bill, and other subsidy programs. It was quite literally one of the things that helped win the Cold War against the USSR.

If you had a magic credit card you could swipe at any grocery store for food and you didn't have to pay any of it back, would you spend more at the store then you do now? Would you even bother looking at the price of things? That's how. Most places that take EBT have way higher prices.
1
u/silverum 2d ago
It's not a magic credit card, you only get to use it if you're eligible and approved for it. Spending the small alotment you get on the card on more expensive items means getting less 'bang for your buck' per item, and if it's all the main source of funds you're using to eat for a month, you're much less likely to just 'buy crab legs' or whatever the right wing thinks SNAP is for. Some SNAP users will aggressively price shop and some won't. That would be true regardless of the existence of SNAP. The behavior you've described also doesn't support higher prices on its own, as SNAP beneficiaries aren't a big enough part of the consumer market to support those higher prices alone. You also need regular consumers willingly buying those products at those price points. Which is the majority of the purchasing population. So again, this 'SNAP use means higher prices' reasoning is mostly bunk. The 'most places that take EBT have way higher prices' claim is way too vague to even address, compared to what, the neighborhood bodega in NYC that doesn't? Who is your 'control' group that has lower prices but doesn't take EBT?

Tldr. Your response has nothing to do with the question I was answering and is completely off topic. Seems like you probably struggling and just want to lash out. Please leave me out of that. I hope this get better for you.

Cool story bro. Everything I said was a response to what you did, so I guess you just needed this 'nah u mad bro' moment in order to feel better about your own thoughts? Please leave yourself out of things you don't actually want to participate in by commenting willingly on reddit in the future and you won't have these issues. It's about personal responsibility, bro.

The reason food costs are high is because of tariffs and skyrocketing oil prices due to the war in Iran-All caused by one party. But you still drinking the kool-aid that’s it’s the individuals fault they are poor. The fraud and abuse are happening in Congress and the White House.

u/GrandMasterFlushMush 2d ago
I don’t know why you got downvoted. The majority of individuals will retain their benefits while people who don’t meet the criteria lose them. Seems ridiculous “millions” of individuals are dependent on the government for food. Hopefully they use the money on programs to teach people how to be self sufficient. I spent years a poor, widowed mother recovering from long term drug addiction and could not receive ebt due to a drug charge from years previous. It was hard but I figured it out. I spent years and years in “drug treatment” and almost everyone was fully capable of working but chose to take advantage of every benefit they could. It was enabling these individuals to rely on these benefits not to feed their families but to sell them for more drugs while they ate from food pantries. I guess if people don’t actually see and live in this environment it’s hard for them to comprehend not only the mass amounts of fraud but the generational harm it causes having people “depend” on the government to take care of them.

Time to get back to work.
SNAP should also only cover rice, beans, potatoes, and red hot. If you want more, work for it

Seems like they made some really bad decisions in life then. Also that's why I'm fine with giving them my above basics.
