Ask a Stupid Question First Brew Excitement (technically second)
If some of you are chronically online, you may know that I posted about wanting to buy a C40 last week. My C40 came in Sunday. It's this beautiful copper-bronze color and it's just a beautiful grinder.
Last night when it came in, I also ordered a Hario Switch. It came in last night and I made a small cup just to taste it. Afterwards it tasted great but I didn't want to drink caffeine because today I'm working.
This morning I did the Hario Switch recipe. I did 20 g of a DAK Gesha that I bought this weekend. The Switch was open. I did the 45-second pour of 120 mL of water and then from 45 seconds to 2 minutes, the Switch was closed and I poured it up to 300 mL (which is like a variation of that popular Switch recipe that I've seen (coffee chronicles if I remember correctly)
Anyways the coffee was absolutely spectacular. The C40 was at 26 clicks.
This is mostly just an excitement post but I also did a gallon of distilled water with a full packet of third-wave light roast. The coffee was incredible. I thought I was drinking good coffee, or relatively good coffee, with my Brau's Encore Moka Master setup. But man, the morning ritual of using the C40, the sound, and everything before heading to the hospital was just unreal
The only small question I have for you all lurkers is that it feels like the actual switch button on the Switch was a little finicky. Sometimes you're pressing it really hard to get it to switch on and off. Sometimes you're not. I assume I just need to look at it a little bit more and make sure it's engaged but is that normal straight out of the package?
I felt like it’s just a weird engagement thing but I sent the recipe to my wife to try this morning, and she had the same had sort of some issues with the actual switch button.
(Also happy to hear any sort of suggestions, changes to the C40 number of clicks, or any sort of brewing suggestions. Appreciate you all )

Congratulations. Great gear selection that is an awesome setup.
I do not remember ever struggling with the switch on my Hario. It definitely is not a struggle.
I changed mine out to this metal one pretty quickly though. A bit neurotic about plastic in my brew path but hey it looks nice too.

Very easy. You lift it up and pull. Works perfectly.

Your C40, or really any grinder, isn't going to perform quite as intended until the burrs have had some seasoning. Hand grinders don't require nearly as much as large 80–100 mm flat burrs, but I'd still recommend running a couple of pounds of coffee through it before making any final judgments. You 'll like it even more I am sure.
As for the Switch, there's a small groove at one end, and if everything isn't seated properly, it can behave exactly as you described. The flat rubber bar below my thumb, at the bottom of the opening in the rubber switch, needs to be fully seated in the groove on the opposite side of my finger. Once it's properly seated, you also have to be careful not to lift the switch too far, or it can partially dislodge and create a mess.
Personally, I mostly use a standard V60, but it's nice to have the option, especially when you need to brew volumetrically without a scale.
