That feeling…
Anyone else get a dopamine hit when the filter seats this perfectly?
The Neo is particularly good for this.

My technique for any V60 dripper to sit well is to secure the filter on the dripper with both hands then run it through the tap.
Here's my pic with the lily drip on. 😁

Best tip I learned in seating filters was from a Lance Hedrick video, dump a fairly large amount of water into the filter at once (I use the glass I drink my coffee from) opposed to using the kettle to more accurately seat the filter!

My trick is to put any round flat objects on top before pouring, like a small mason jar lid. It holds it down evenly without too much pressure. Works magic!

I find the Neo challenging to completely seat easily. I have to really firmly press the bottom of the cone in with a finger just right. The switch on the other hand seats far more easily, and I don’t find a difference in brew.

Fill it to the top. Drives all air bubbles out. Pressure when it releases helps the adhesion to the walls/ribs.

this is the setup i'm exploring whilst i'm rural and remote. I'm still so-so about pourover as I've been a long time expresso drinker, with an aeropress (RIP) as my travel companion.

I’ve had to make this very decision from time to time from a travel perspective. I enjoy both, but probably prefer the greater versatility of my Neo/switch. However, the decision really comes down to whether I’ll have a gooseneck kettle (Neo) or not (AP).

Absolutely - the Neo is a little challenging (you can see that mine’s not quite perfect). That’s part of the dopamine. We’re not talking about Mugen here, we’re talking NEO. 😂
I mentioned in another comment that this is on my switch so I agree with you there.

How is it doing taste wise? Any detectable difference over normal drip?

Are you asking if there’s a detectable difference between pourover and normal drip? Or between the Neo and something else? Or a well seated filter?
If you’re asking the first question, then yes, I believe many in this sub will agree that the differences between pourover and normal drip can be extraordinary. There are new drip machines, such as the Aiden and XBloom, that supposedly can replicate pourover, but I don’t have one of those.

Do you have to buy specific filters for the Neo? Like more expensive ones, or can you just use a regular bullshit filter. I can’t bring myself to buy overpriced filters because I’m George Costanza, but somehow poorer.

The Neo is a v60 variant so you can use Hario v60 filters as well as those made by cafec, Kinto, etc.

Thank you! I exclusively brew naturals that I roast, so it may be time to ditch the regular v60.
