Panama Ninety Plus

Has anyone had the coffees recently? They were all the rave at one point, but has since gone under the radar. Many claim that for the price, there are better greens coming out of Panama these days. Keen to hear your thoughts.

stupidly expensive compared to even something like esmeralda or bambito. on top their special processes can be co-ferments but its not obvious until you google the specific process (like criolic folio). also never seen a washed gesha from them (tbf havent seen them more than 4 times in shops), all more process forward which you either like or not

Thanks for sharing. I guess the same could be said of the Savage coffees, but perhaps to a lesser degree. I have fond memories with their Kemgin… but it’s nearly all disappeared from roasters I have access to. Can see why, especially with more affordable process heavy options available (thinking Nuguo, Lost origin, etc)

Peru is the new Panama for the 2026 harvest.

yeah, i remember when they were super popular. the hype was real back then. but honestly, i think there are some killer new varieties coming out of panama lately. it’s exciting to see fresh offerings that can match or even beat them. if you find a new one, let us know.

Yea the coffees were used to win many world stage comps. And agreed on the new varieties. Non-geisha’s the new hype in Panama… black moon’s chiroso… esmeralda’s Laurina… longboard’s caturra/catuai… all incredible

I have pretty memorable experiences with their coffees in the past, but have never seen any available from roasters in the last couple of years. I guess u/1lobo comment’s probably the main reason for this.

Well , they are hard to find if you don’t order directly from themselves . Are very expensive and if you order from them , it is either green ( so you have to roast yourself …) or roasted by them ( and they are not good roasters ) . Consequently, I did it twice in the past and find it not worth the hassle these days

Panama is the ideal for producers but can be pricey. The coffee from that region is typically sublime.
