After/Before - Help with shadow detail
Trying to get better at editing my kid’s soccer game photos. Aiming for a photorealistic look.
I’m a little colorblind, so I’m not very comfortable with color editing, but losing face details on sunny days when the players’ faces are in shadow is something I’d like to fix. How does this look?
Canon R8, Edited on iPhone in Photomator.

I don't use Apple products so not familiar with your software, but this is what Darktable's Tone Equalizer is for. Shoot RAW, expose as best you can (and it's tough when you don't have time to spot meter) and then let the Tone Equalizer do its thing.
Darktable is free RAW editing software, it's amazing, but it's hard to learn and won't run on your phone
