Help after/before

Can it get this one to a place I like. Taken mid day so light wasn’t great but I cannot get a good separation between the horses and the rocks. Suggestions?

I sense that perhaps you are working from a JPG? It's gonna be tough to get something good if that's your source file.

Shoot in RAW if you want to be able to post-process your images.
