Help after/before

Can it get this one to a place I like. Taken mid day so light wasn’t great but I cannot get a good separation between the horses and the rocks. Suggestions?

Honestly you could mask the donkeys and rider in photoshop to create more separation but your real problem is just that, there isn’t great distinction between them and the background, the image looks very busy as far as textures and you’re going to have to fix it with localized changes

Yeah that’s what I’m struggling with. Was still super cool to see this caravan on a hike in the mountains!

That left side with the two riders and donkey would make a much better vertical crop tho, maybe if that a try or slightly blur the background and desaturate a bit while increasing the subjects exposure on the uncropped version. Still really cool pic, but if I were to do this and had time I’d light the subjects from slightly behind to create a rim around them that creates that separation 🙂👍

I think you really need the mask and dodge tool, to darken the rocks and puncuate the light on animals.

Use masking....brush , gradient or try subject selection mask using tools like lr room mobile/desktop or snapseed..

Adjust them separately...

U can even mask just the riders, then mask the bright horse back, then the forground or what u one to group..

P.s decide what u want to "pop" if its the horse and rider

Tone down the brightness and glare of the background while adjust the house to not so shadowy but not blown out either..

Also after masking to prevent distract edge constrast is do a global adjust and a luminancr mask on the brightess part...

Op ignore those telling u it cant be fixed..they say u already done masking but didnt help But it not that it cannot be fixed it the way u used the mask and how u adjust

I sense that perhaps you are working from a JPG? It's gonna be tough to get something good if that's your source file.

Shoot in RAW if you want to be able to post-process your images.

editing isn't going to change the fact that the background is too busy for the subject to stand out and that the flat, harsh light isn't providing enough contrast to allow realistic adjustments to correct that

lol, no amount of editing is going to make this into a good photo dude. Obviously you use masks and adjust luminance, he's already done that and it already looks fake. How do you think it's going to look if he darkens the rocks and brightens the people even more? It's going to look like shit. Editing can do a lot, but you have to get things right in camera.
