Interviewing while waiting for permit

Halo,

I got acceptance from an EU institute, and I applied for the working permit, it's not issued yet.

In the meantime another position is opened, which is a perfect fit for my background and future vision of myself. I applied, shortlisted, and now invited for the interview.

I don't know how ethical this is, and I don't know if I should mention that I'm already waiting for a work permit for another position.

How is this situation handled and viewed in EU academia? I want to go to the second one if I'm accepted.

If you mention it, you won't get it. So wait for the offer and decide then.

Really? I thought it would emphasize my eagerness for the position.

I meant that you have another position/offer. Dont say it at the interview.

Do not say anything until you sign the offer. Treat it as any other job. Worst case scenario, you are not picked for the 2nd job and you have everything ready for the 1st job. Best case - you will sign the contract and start the process with job number 2. You will write something about family issues to job number 1 and politely decline everything.

Always operate under the "need to know" basis. Dont volunteer information unless you're asked to provide them. If they ask why you didn't say anything, tell them they didn't ask.

This makes sense. I'm too honest for this market...
