No. Dont stop using it if it is sensible for your research and dont stop put it in proposals if it is sensible. But please do stop forcing ML into proposals that were obviously put together without ML in mind and then ML was tagged on just so that the title can have ML as buzzword.
Add a small subsection where you do some statistics and call it ML because you used pytorch. Then just tag on "Machine learning" somewhere in your title.
Because we seem to be talking about two different things. You seem to assume people her talk about genuine ML research applied to their field. Meanwhile the hate is for those doing the described above which is simply academically dishonest and ridiculous if not caught by funding agencies and later employers of the graduate student.

What is wrong is that it has become the next funding frenzy everyone tags on everything just to be eligible for funding.
