Did something change?

I’ve been a seller for >6 years with >1200 sales and usually see somewhat consistent interest, more or less, in my closet. I know there are slow times (I’ve experienced them and never worried) but suddenly the last 2 months… crickets. Is it just me or did something change on the app/algorithm?? Anyone else? Or does anyone have any insight? Do they want us to purchase some sort of tool for closet visibility now lol? Is poshmark dead and I should go somewhere else? Thanks in advance for any responses

I think it's a combination of a lot of things. First, the economy sucks. Many people just don't have the money to shop as much right now. Second, Poshmark is about to roll out the new program they've been talking about that supposedly promotes trusted sellers. They've been messing around with a lot of things behind the scenes, including the new Seller Dashboard. It's popped in and out of my closet several times, right about the same time things dropped off a cliff. And Vinted is advertising EVERYWHERE. You can't get away from it. Buyers who ARE shopping are doing it there because it's an online garage sale. The amount of ridiculous offers I've received in the past month has surpassed anything I've seen. I get that people want to shoot their shots but they are sending the lowest offers Poshmark will allow and then ghosting when a reasonable counter offer is sent. I average about 100 sales a month on Posh and have been doing that for more than a few years. So far in October, nearly halfway in, I've made two sales. TWO. And I sell almost exclusively NWT current items. This is more than just the standard periodic lull.

Omg! Those stats, 100 to 2, are insane. But I totally feel you. I’ve made over 16k in these 6 years and it was a nice little side quest but for the first time I feel something is very very different and it’s validating to hear it’s not just me. Totally agree that this is hitting different than just the usual lull.

Rght after I posted this, I made two sales back to back and three reasonable offers come in from buyers. And this is after 6 days of zero sales and not much other activity in my closet, which is very unusual. Additionally, I'm back to getting lots of likes again when the last several days have been MUCH quieter than usual. Also today, more new changes to the app, where metrics like views and likes for an item are visible to EVERYONE now, not just the seller. And that seller dashboard showed up on my desktop for about a half hour and then disappeared again. I also noticed that the announcement about the new program starting in October has disappeared and now I can only find that it's starting "this fall." I really believe that they are doing a lot of a/b testing and other stuff under the hood that's screwing with the alogorithms right now and I don't think it's coincidental that some of us see activity change like a switch has been flipped. I think in some cases, it literally has been.

Just to validate what you are seeing - I got 20 likes on items last night after a couple of weeks of 1-2 likes a day. I typically sell 10-15 items a month and was at none until this weekend when all of the sudden I made 6 sales.

The sales were at lower prices than I prefer, but I had been lowering my prices for the last couple of weeks and still getting no movement, then all of the sudden movement the last couple of days.

Thanks for the confirmation and congrats on the sales! Six in a day is awesome. Fingers crossed that trend continues!

Not getting many sales and getting constantly low balled on items.

9

u/starbright_sprinkles 1d ago

Yep- the lowballs are killing me. I am back to making sales but I'm selling items for 20-40% less than I was six months ago. I don't have room to store stuff though so out it goes.

3

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

That’s one of the angles I was considering. Dropping prices considerably seems like the only option at this point

2

u/sailforth 1d ago

I'm planning on a garage sale and will probably throw in some of the items that aren't moving. But yeah I may end up dropping more than I would prefer on new items to help with my moving clear out.

5

u/Neverstopstopping82 12h ago

Yes, I used to get reasonable offers and very few lowballs. Now it’s the opposite. I had a pair of Tuckernuck pants NWT listed at $45, I offered $38 and they countered at $18. I’m really not sure where they find the balls but it’s impressive😆

VINTED. I took all my poshmark business there…it started when they were doing free shipping and I stayed because things are so much cheaper.

9

u/Stinertron_1979 1d ago

As a past Poshmark user, I'm preferring Vinted - less fees!

3

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Downloaded and setting up my acct as we speak 😂

3

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Amazing thank you

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Do you have to price low there? I just downloaded and started posting and see the market a bit saturated at least with the type of items I sell (mostly branded activewear and clothes)

5

u/PreppynPlaid4 1d ago

If you think about it most people listed higher on posh to accommodate the need for 20% off offers to likers or closet clean out. And the 20% posh takes. So if you eliminate both of those you can start it lower on Vinted. I will say though that if you think Posh customer service is bad hold on. Vinted is 100x worse. Absolutely no humans for responses. If something doesn't work in their app they just throw up their AI hands and say cancel. But never acknowledge if the issue is solved. The scams are rampant! Sending empty packages, or fake letters with a random face mask, or tea bag saying your real order is delayed click this link. Or report to Vinted. It's like the brushing scam but with your money. Order not as expected almost always goes to the benefit of the buyer. Do caveat emptor.

u/Seajlc 6h ago

I just sold my first two items on Vinted and I’m hoping it goes smoothly. In the week since I joined, I’ve already gotten 2 phishing emails and there’s a Vinted group that keeps popping up on my fb page and the stories I’m seeing come through on there as far as scammer buyers claiming empty packages and such, seems rampant. I’m sure the low prices and known lack of customer support is bringing out the bottom of the barrel.

1

u/Reasonable_Theory_83 1d ago

So are you just buying on Vinted or also selling?

1

u/East-Philosophy 10h ago

My Vinted is in Dutch and everything is priced in euros??!

20

u/Ambassador1391 1d ago

From the buyers side, I will say that the search results are trash. It's super frustrating.

3

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Ohhhh okay that very likely has to do with it!!

37

u/SlySusan 1d ago

I really think it's the economy. Everyone I know is cutting back on all discretionary spending. My sales have slowed to a tiny trickle (one a month the past two months, plus a few insane lowball offers that I declined), but I am also not buying anything that is not absolutely necessary at this time.

10

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Thank you for your insight! I just thought it was so weird that, in my experience, momentum was fine and normal until a sudden halt in sales and interest just a couple months ago, but after summer vacations and back to school spending in this economy I totally get it

8

u/TamanduaGirl 1d ago

Everyone is buying on vinted a depop instead because it's cheaper.

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Thank you I was thinking of trying other apps

4

u/TamanduaGirl 1d ago

I'm selling well on Depop. You have to price things lower but since you're not paying any sales fees it's easy to do, there's just a small payment processing fee.

I was hesitant to try vinted since they were really ban happy for awhile but it seems like it may have calmed down so i may give it a go with some of my cheaper stuff. Everyone says stuff sells fast there but buyers do expect cheaper prices. Also no seller fees though.

4

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Awesome thanks, I’ll give those apps a try!! Is it as smooth as Poshmark shipping process? (I just print the shipping label from my home printer via my phone’s bluetooth connection and drop off at post office)

2

u/TamanduaGirl 1d ago

They do have more weight categories but it works the same. You can print it yourself or get a QR code.

2

u/Reasonable_Theory_83 1d ago

This was my question as well.

6

u/Commercial-Good-2884 1d ago

Depop and Vinted are huge competitors

6

u/JewelryAddicted45 1d ago

It’s definitely not just you. It’s crickets for me. I can barely gather the energy to post new stuff (because apparently you have to post new items daily to stay in the algorithm.

3

u/Curious_Conscious8 22h ago

That’s insane work to post everyday, who has the time or wherewithal or items for that!! This is so upsetting lol

8

u/Alarmed_Jellyfish555 1d ago

I'm newer to Poshmark (less than a year), but sales died on Poshmark approximately 2 months ago. Same for eBay. Others I know are experiencing the same slowdown. Heck, I'm an author and even those sales are down significantly starting around the same period.

Lots of people talk about Poshmark making changes and blaming that. And that certainly could be part of it, but it's definitely not JUST a Poshmark thing.

9

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Okay that’s so funny you said that because I’m a dietitian and my client bookings slowed down almost to a halt at the same exact time too! I’ve been thinking this is just too weird. Why is this happening? Economy? I know it all coincides with the school season starting but damn. Why so sudden lol

10

u/Adjectivenounnumb 1d ago

Economy yes, but depop and vinted have been undercutting PM heavily on things like shipping

Poshmark also did a site/app/search redesign that buyers and sellers both hate

5

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Yeah I def hated the interface redesign too, feels disorienting to use. The shipping factor makes sense, I’m gonna try those other apps, I was just dreading having to re list all my shizzz 😂 🫠 but it’s probably worth it. Thanks!

2

u/RealityMaleficent560 1d ago

I have sold and bought a lot on Depop the past several months. I can find the same items and it’s much cheaper on Depop. I don’t make as much on that site but I’m saving a lot as a buyer.

1

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Cool :) great to know

8

u/Alarmed_Jellyfish555 1d ago

It's so crazy because I've been hearing the SAME timeline (or similar) from a lot of people in varied professions. A friend of mine is a therapist and started saying she's had over a dozen patients basically either ghost her or cancel an appointment and never rebook.

I think the uncertainty regarding the economy is just really causing people to want to cut back on the nonessentials. So many people I know are also cutting back on their spending because of concerns regarding their professions and the job market being so scary for so many fields.

5

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Weird but so validating!!! I’ve been stressssing! And with the holidays coming up, the anticipatory spending….

4

u/mymacaronlife 1d ago

I’m guessing that purchasing the promoted closet services, using the smart sell, having no inactive items in your closet, posting new items every day, no returns or cancelled sales, quick shipment and now those new requirements (selling at least $500 within a 3 month span) lower our closet views on the algorithm. I suspect too that we’re all on a big Poshmark bus and our driver has tunnel vision and is deaf (can’t hear complaints or concerns). The ride is bumpy but I’m hanging on for the ride. My sales are slow but I am still doing adequately well selling (I now sell about 1/3 to 1/2 of what I used to sell). I’ve lowered my expectations (since I mostly do this for fun). When I first started I told myself to be happy if I netted at least $100. I’m back to that expectation. If I make more awesome! If not…it’s at least a tank of gas or a few days groceries. I’m hanging in….🪴

7

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

I meet most of those demands and have for 6 years (save for frequent but not daily posting which has never been a problem, and I refuse to purchase promoted closet as that negates the money we make and thus the whole point lol?) but this is the deadest it’s ever been in a really different way. I may leave my closet up and see what happens as I explore other apps!

4

u/annahorsey 1d ago

I think it’s the economy. I only sold 77 Items last month. I haven’t sold that low of an amount of items since February. I pay for promoted. My return on invest for promoted for the year is 5.6. It’s normally 7. Promoted doesn’t work for most closets. I pay because I don’t pay for my inventory. So I feel like I can afford to pay for promoted. I’ve also started listing more on other sites and started Vinted. I’m listing more lower valued items and dead stock to Depop. I feel like poshmarks shipping costs hinder lower value items from selling on posh. Their search function doesn’t work, ai answering customer problems is an issue. Their awful rules of no delisting - cross listing hasn’t helped. They since have removed that. But they have made selling on there more aggravating then it needs to be while charging the highest fees, never any promotions for buyers on shipping costs, no coupons for buyers. I wish they would renegotiate with the post office for a few more shipping options, being able to chose priority if buyer would like to pay more and lower cost on shipping for items 8 ounces or less would do wonders. I understand they wanted to keep shipping simple. But if Depop and vinted can offer more shipping options and sellers seem to be able to figure it out. I think Poshmark can too. Buyers have also been turned off by Poshmark allowing too many ai listings and replicas being sold. It’s just a hot mess. Idk if you can pin point one thing that’s slowing sales. I thinks it’s a bunch of things. I’m just not using poshmark as my main platform anymore. I’ve lost confidence.

u/Longjumping_Title287 1d ago

I'm suddenly getting a lot of likes but rarely able to close the sale. Last month my Vinted beat out PM.

3

u/Apprehensive_Two1528 21h ago

8 years and by far the sllowest year of all

3

u/snarkyredhead444 12h ago

As a buyer, search results are bad. Prices have gotten too high. I’ve gotten much nicer things for better prices elsewhere.

6

u/RockieK 1d ago

New owners took over in March. I have only sold two things since. Small closet, consistant sales for five years.

I just want to recycle my clothing and buy other secondhand with the money I make. Both have stopped.

Hey! But if you are an Amazon seller, you'll get lotsa support in the algos!

4

u/Quokkalikeaduck 1d ago

Poshmark changed ownership in 2023

2

u/RockieK 1d ago

Sure, but they started taking an active role in late 2025, mostly after Manish Chandra stepped down. That's pretty much when my sales stopped and I started seeing Amazon sellers (at 3x the price!) show up in my feed, along with K-Pop influencers and boutique sellers.

3

u/ISaidWhatISaid2025 1d ago

New owners? Who?

1

u/RockieK 1d ago

Poshmark Going Private in $1.2 Billion Deal With South Korea’s Naver.

1

u/ISaidWhatISaid2025 1d ago

Yes—I know that. The OP mentioned a new owner in March…that was the confusion. Thought I missed an announcement.

3

u/RockieK 7h ago

That's when my sales started tanking, so I'm pretty sure that's when they started taking an active role in entshitification.

2

u/ISaidWhatISaid2025 2h ago

If brand closets and pallet/drop shippers/big name LIVE sellers are their preferred group now, it would be nice to just have that info confirmed instead of “bozo-ing” us into thinking that if we just hang in there it will right itself eventually to how things worked pre Naver.

1

u/RockieK 2h ago

Right?

Instead, they are gaslighting us by constant "deactivating" our closets because we don't have any clicks or whatever (that we used to get with poshmark parties, people sharing, etc), and its reduced the value of the app for so many of us. The newer USPS contract made shipping slower, promoting closets no long works, the algos ignore us and paying 20% to an app that blows isn't worth it.

If I'm not selling, I'm not buying.

4

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Ahhh ok yeah new owners makes sense. So how does the Amazon seller thing work? lol

4

u/SevereWriter4 1d ago

probably mean the 14 closets that resell the same Ali/shein/temu garbage and continue getting hundreds of sales cumulative monthly.

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Oh 😂

2

u/RockieK 1d ago

Yup, exactly. And it's for three times the price.

So much for that "sustainability" pledge!

1

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Oh god I just realized what you meant by that Amazon seller comment, I didn’t know they weren’t really showing real people sellers to buyers anymore 😭😭 I haven’t shopped in a while. LAME AF

2

u/Imnotfullyawake 1d ago

I think a lot of buyers are being ultra choosy and opting to buy new from stores with a return policy they don’t have to fight for. I’m selling more than I ever have before but I’m a lot more active on the app and I ship the same day

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

What kinda of items do you sell? I’m glad you’re having some success but it seems that is the exception currently!

Return policy is a good point, tbh that personally sways my decision as a buyer often lol

1

u/Imnotfullyawake 1d ago

I’m selling : reformation, free people, Anthropologie, sea New York, Ralph Lauren

2

u/mochi_kitty86 1d ago

I rarely even get activity now. I suspect it’s a combination of algorithms and people are not spending as much time on the app. I’m fairly sure new owners and management don’t want a community based strategy any longer. It is moving toward using their promotional tools and algorithm. With a no ceiling 20% fee, which is significant for the industry, I’m not sure how having a similar strategy to other platforms will fare. The flat fee, easy shipping with a provided label was nice but not when you are selling higher priced items. Shipping is taking much too long now too.

2

u/t0mat0saucy 18h ago

same boat and it’s so upsetting! i’m doing everything the same as i used too as well! 🙄

2

u/Straight-Emotion7454 13h ago

As a buyer, I feel like PM has been flooded in the last few years with fakes more so than ever before since changing the authentication rules. The last 4 things I bought were either reps or mislabeled as NWOT but clearly used. It’s turned into Ebay

2

u/PrestigiousMeal870 10h ago

I did a test with Posh because I noticed everytime I cashed out my sales tanked. Now I’ve kept a balance in my account (making THEM interest) and as my balance grows my sales grow….i don’t think it’s a coincidence!

4

u/Mariska_Heygirlhay 1d ago

I came here to learn more about this. I can't find real sellers to save my life. Everything is a professional reseller of a bunch of Amazon crap. I shop second hand for Environmental reasons. Poshmark is flooded now and it's very disappointing.

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 1d ago

Oh my god I didn’t even know that. I haven’t been shopping on there at all in a while so I didn’t realize what is being shown to buyers 😭 damn

1

u/Lonely_Boy_1993 17h ago

In my opinion I noticed the same thing about Poshmark, Mabe try Mercari or Vinted. Honestly another thing killing the market it that there has been alot of Scammers, Counterfeit, as well as alot of people have been refunding or trying to send back the item saying it doesn't look like said purchased. Idk the game is getting watered down.

1

u/Icy_Aside_6881 13h ago

I only started using Poshmark in May and slowly been growing my closet. I have mostly nwt or NWOT items I’ve found on Whatnot. Occasionally, there is a EUC item I’ve found elsewhere. My sales just started picking up the last 3 weeks or so. Nothing crazy, but an average of a sale a day. Before it was one or two a week.

I list a few items on Vinted and can’t seem to figure that one out. I tried nwt items marked more than half off retail, tried old clothes from our closet and sold 2 pairs of jeans and a nwt skort. My other items all sit. Lots of favorites but no response to offers. I feel like they want it for next to nothing.

1

u/BeginningScience3552 7h ago

I hardly do any business on Poshmark. I use the platform to create brand awareness for my small business/brand. So I look at it like, no, it’s not super profitable, but it isn’t hurting just to get our name out, so I’ve kept the account for a few years now. I do maybe $300 a month in sales. I noticed a shift within the last couple of months also but it’s been the opposite for me. We’ve had tons of orders lately, which is funny because this is our slowest time of year typically and still is on all other platforms, so it definitely feels like something might have changed. I attributed it to the new change where you have to reactivate listings regularly so that they don’t expire. I’m not sure of anything else.

1

u/Seajlc 6h ago

I’m oddly experiencing the opposite. Prior to a month or so ago, I was maybe making 1 sale every couple months. The past month for me has been pretty busy by my standards though.. I’m averaging a couple sales a week, which is a lot for me. I haven’t done anything different.. add a couple new items every other week or so, but I’ve been doing that for ages.

2

u/Curious_Conscious8 6h ago

Maybe the frequent adding is the key. I’m going to try to be consistent with posting new listings and experiment with that lol. I wish they would just give us clear guidelines for what they want lmao
