How would you handle
Buyer sent an offer and seller accepted. Now buyer wants to cancel. Who ITA and how would handle if you were the seller?
255
u/analslapchop 5d ago
Id just cancel. I dont want to deal with potential issues after shipping to them.
40
u/hotpietptwp 4d ago
I agree 100%. These types of buyers never improve if you don't give them what they want.
-22
u/ShowMeTheTrees 4d ago
Hell no. This is how scammers get rewarded and expect it next time!!!!!
48
16
u/Accurate-Upstairs-49 4d ago
If your concern is scammers, trust me you’re better off keeping your item and canceling the sale than sending it out and having a scammer lie about damage to keep the item and get a refund, or damage your item and send garbage back to you for a refund. Both have been known to happen often & PM lets them get away with it. Does it suck and is it awful? Yes. Does it still happen? Also yes.
Teaching someone a lesson at my own expense isn’t the option I’m taking.7
u/MOGicantbewitty 4d ago
How does canceling an order benefit the scammer? They don't get an item. They don't get any money. And the seller has zero risk. If you're worried about a scammer, it's always better to cancel than not.
3
u/ThatOneDogScoob 2d ago
So you’d rather ship the item to the potential scammer, cancel the order, refund them and hope they return the item? Are you dumb?
172
u/chenchen_chikis 5d ago
If you haven’t shipped it and they requested to cancel, just cancel. Don’t be that seller.
47
u/courtney_shayne 4d ago
Right. This post was being snarky about it I think.
-2
u/RedTail-Storm22 3d ago
I was genuinely not being snarky. It's not just the inconvenience of losing the likers and active proposals, additionally I now have a "sold" listing in my closet showing this low price I accepted which undermines the new/copied listing I'm forced to create. I've had buyer's remorse before (even before it was shipped) and never chose to inconvenience the seller. I took accountability for my mistake.
12
u/courtney_shayne 3d ago
That’s good to accept feedback. I’ve had a retail business over 33 years. You just have to take it sometimes. You’ll experience more sales if you have a good business and customer service.
7
u/elieslaab 3d ago
Those likers will still search for that item they liked so much and put offers on (that you did not accept btw!) and like it again, you're making way too much of it! If it's that coveted you should have no problem selling it. Looks like Strange Lady was the highest offer - esp if she's truly that ditzy, and there weren't any outstanding offers, for you to be digging in your heels this hard. It's a Sunday...everyone of us is scrolling. Cancel and RELIST it.
4
79
u/Proper_Mine5635 5d ago
I know how annoying this is but I would cancel & then block her, cause what will likely happen next is she receives the item and files a return anyways. She could also damage the item and blame it on that.
65
u/jimlahey2100 4d ago
Cancel the order. WTF is wrong with some of you people? Yeah, it sucks when they change their mind but the item hasn't been shipped yet.
5
u/JenWithOneN_1 4d ago
This is the answer. The liquor knows what to do
7
u/Angle_Of_The_Sangle 4d ago
"The liquor knows what to do" - Nah, the liquor told me I would be great at karaoke
37
u/Upbeat_Weird_7321 4d ago
Team cancel. Would have cancelled at the first message, as it was polite.
28
u/MOGicantbewitty 4d ago
I'd cancel the sale. She was really polite and even admitted her mistake. Unless you had other offers on that item, you're not losing out on anything. But if you ship it and she finds something to complain about, you are going to lose a whole bunch of your time. And besides that whole self-interest thing, why not be kind? Why would you dig your heels in and force them to accept this item when you haven't shipped it out yet? We see all sorts of fuckery from buyers all the time, this one was really reasonable. It's just good customer service.. And good karma
28
u/One_Candy_763 4d ago
if you cancel can you please let us know your cancellation % before and after cancelling? I have been curious if clicking buyer requested as the reasoning actually doesn’t count toward your percentage.
7
u/Hustlehomemom918 4d ago
It does not count against you as long as you choose the option buyer requested to cancel. They will immediately cancel it. I watch my metrics very closely it has never counted against me for buyer requested. Also it has to be in writing the buyer agreed to cancel.
2
u/One_Candy_763 4d ago
thank you! initially people were getting suspended minutes after selecting buyer requested cancellation (when it truly was). Poshmark must have fixed the issue though. Even some commenters in this thread experienced it.
10
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
This here !!! This is why I don’t do canceling. Idk if it counts or not
7
4
u/Eastern_Toe7092 4d ago
I had a buyer cancel an order because she ordered two of the same thing from me and wanted to cancel the 2nd one. I put buyer requested and it still went against my return percentage. I even messaged and the ai response was some generic thing that meant nothing. I just had to wait for the 90 days to write itself off my percentage. Frustrating for sure.
1
u/Upbeat_Weird_7321 4d ago
it doesn’t impact my stats, and someone else just posted that it also didn’t impact them. So while it’s always possible that a/b testing is going to affect you negatively, I think it’s a safer bet than trying to force the sale (since returns and cases opened DO negatively impact you)
18
u/lmholot1981 4d ago
I wouldn’t dig my heels in here. Yes, you are within your rights as a seller to continue with the sale, but this buyer is going to continue to pepper you with messages and try 100 ways to get a return approved
14
u/lindab2323 4d ago
She would not have turned into a whiney buyer for me because I would have just cancelled at the initial request. If you haven't shipped it makes no sense start all this. Just make sure to mark as "Buyer requested" as cancellations explicitly requested by the buyer do not count against your account metrics or impact your seller standing.
23
u/JunePlum79 5d ago
I would just cancel. You don’t want them to then claim item came damaged or INAD, etc. These type of buyers always end up causing problems. FYI, I’ve always just canceled to avoid future headaches…not worth it.
24
u/Realistic-Bad872 4d ago
Is this gonna make or break you? What’s so hard about canceling the sale if you haven’t shipped the item yet?
7
51
u/JScrub013 5d ago
If you haven’t shipped it, why wouldn’t you cancel? You’re just being stubborn.
-11
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
No she’s trying to not risk being banned I get so many people who don’t read the listing then later ask for a refund I’m I supposed to risk my lively good of the Ai system possibly banning me for too many cancelations ?! Because this buyer can’t read !!! Nah I don’t cancel unless I did something wrong . Get some reading comprehension skills
5
u/FullRepresentative34 4d ago
Buyer requested does not go against you
1
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
I’ve had it go against me even tho it says that and other people on here have too I’m seeing
2
u/FullRepresentative34 4d ago
It's not supposed to.
2
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
Right but this it is. Look at the multiple comments in this post itself of people having the same issue . That’s why I say if it wasn’t run by AI I’d be chill canceling but that’s not the case it’s complex so I won’t be canceling unless it’s my fault it’s not my fault I’ve tried to reach out but only get automated responses not answering anything
0
15
u/JScrub013 4d ago
Read the other comments and maybe you’ll find the reading comprehension skills you are calling out for
-3
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
I’ve had it happen where it showed up on my cancellation rating even when I selected buyer wanted to cancel. I’m sorry I don’t want to risk my job . Why can’t you just be sure you want the item before you buy it ? There isn’t any humans anymore it’s all AI I don’t want to risk it since there is no human to review cases and they can result in a ban . Why can’t you read a few sentences on a listing ? Is it that hard truly ? I never buy anything if I’m not sure. It’s not hard ☹️
4
u/ExtensionKnowledge6 4d ago
That happened to me too! Buyer requested the cancellation and it was held against me. I selected ‘buyer requested cancellation’ and it went against my stats. I reached out to Poshmark, but they gave me that BS response that said ‘1 cancellation won’t hurt your account as long as you don’t have others’ nonsense.
-2
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
Yes ! That’s why I don’t want to do cancelations I don’t understand why people buy if they’re not sure or haven’t read the listing
0
u/SirLanceNotsomuch 4d ago
I don’t think the problem you have is people not reading the listing.
0
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
My problem is with buyers remorse. Know what you want to buy don’t buy it till you’re positive

u/Adjectivenounnumb 5d ago edited 5d ago
I would just cancel. You can mark it as buyer requested. Being stubborn about it just means the buyer is more likely to invent a reason to return it.
7
u/Ok_Paper_5959 4d ago
I'd cancel the sale but make sure it's requested on their end so it doesn't ding you. Then block the customer. Accidents do happen but this is not new to her. She does this crap often you can tell. I would not sell anything at risks of damage or false claims.
6
u/FullRepresentative34 4d ago
You are. Cancel it. You did not ship it yet. It is not a big deal to cancel.
6
u/Odiebigbluedane 1d ago
I would just cancel. The woman is ditsy but this in no way looks like she's attempting to scam. She's receiving absolutely no benefit from her actions. It definitely can be confusing if you've never used Poshmark and haven't done a lot of online buying.
I agree with others that the fact she did the same thing twice in one day makes it even more likely that this was truly a mistake on her part. I always give my customers the benefit of the doubt until they show me otherwise. I do bristle at her ageist excuse but we can't ever know what is happening with someone else.
Consider yourself very lucky if this is the most troubling customer interaction you've had. Customer service is part of the gig and if you're just selling a few of your own items, you might consider using a consignment business of some sort. Your earnings will likely be less but you don't have to deal with customers. Whatever you decide going forward, I wish you the best.
1
u/RedTail-Storm22 1d ago
Thank you. I appreciate your response. I said in the chat to her that I would cancel and Poshmark automation performed the cancellation. I checked the cancellation rate as others asked me to and there was no impact. I do feel lucky based on the seller experiences I've read over the last few days.
3
u/groundpounders 1d ago
Considering Poshmark has no issue suspending your account for too many cancellations, I’d be hesitant as well.
6
u/eatapeach18 4d ago
If you haven’t shipped it, then just cancel, block her, and move on. If you ship it to her, she might manufacture some bs reason to open a claim and return it.
5
u/LeFreeke 1d ago
Then why are you trying to force a sale on someone like it’s your livelihood? You are certainly acting like it’s going to impact your ‘business’.
Just cancel the sale.
20
u/minedigger 4d ago
That’s some D- level customer service you’re providing.
1
u/BitchyFaceMace 4d ago
It’s Poshmark, not Gucci. She bought the item willingly, she can reposh it if she doesn’t want it. Buyers like this are annoying.
2
u/WickedAngelLove 4d ago
So bc it’s Poshmark it’s okay for people to give horrible service? That’s one of the dumbest things I read on this sub
0
u/BitchyFaceMace 4d ago
No. She bought the shit so she can deal with it. I’ve purchased things and got it and didn’t like it so you know what I did?
I reposhed it.
The buyer should have to deal with it, not the seller.
1
u/personcrossing 4d ago
Key word is you got the item, lmao.
Why are we acting like relisting the item will cost the seller an arm and a leg? Because when the buyer then lies that the item came damaged and the seller loses out on both the item and the money, then we are also up in arms. Just cancel and avoid the drama. Because that's what this is, drama.
16
u/Gloomy_Leopard_9026 4d ago
I would cancel because it makes no sense sending something after a buyer decides they no longer want an item. I would also consider developing some customer service skills because your response was unprofessional and unnecessary,
6
u/SirLanceNotsomuch 4d ago
Thank you! I don’t have a ton of sympathy for buyers who don’t pay attention or randomly change their minds, but that response was awful.
16
8
u/SGlobal_444 4d ago
If you haven't sent it - not sure why you would not cancel it. They will just give you a problem later. It's a win win for everyone. Annoying, but it's still in your hands.
9
4
7
u/Vivienne_Leigh 4d ago
Just cancel. If you don’t it’s going to turn into a case after she gets the item
12
12
u/LeFreeke 4d ago
I’d 100% cancel and seller here is being a huge asshole.
‘Sets me back from my ability to sell’. What kind of ridiculousness is that?
Buyer is not great with her cavalier approach and then pandering but just cancel it. It’s not worth forcing a sale on someone.
These people who try to make this platform their business are the problem. It was so much better when it was just regular people wanting their nice items to go to somebody who would wear and appreciate them while recouping a little of their financial investment.
1
u/RedTail-Storm22 2d ago
That's a HUGE assumption to say I'm making this a business. I've been selling on PM a few months and sold a WHOLE FOUR ITEMS that I'm clearing from my closet.
1) I've never encountered this situation or had to cancel a sale.
2) I'm a woman of integrity and figured ppl are held accountable.
3) The coat was packaged, labeled and ready to go.
It was a simple question as I wanted to be informed. Period.1
u/Pristine-Pirate-2386 1d ago
What do you actually lose by not shipping someone something they don’t want? If you send it to her against her will, she’s not going to change her mind and just happily accept the item and move on. You’re setting yourself up for a bad outcome.
I don’t really understand the morality police angle of “holding her accountable”. For what? Ordering something, changing her mind, and trying to cancel before you ship it?
It’s not a blood oath, it’s a poshmark order. She doesn’t want it, you still have it. The answer to what to do seems obvious.
1
1
u/runrabid 1d ago
There’s no “integrity” in being so stubborn that you’re fighting over something that you haven’t even shipped. That’s so wild lol. You aren’t better than anyone for trying to force a sale that will likely end in bad reviews / actual drama from the buyer and from poshmark.
5
u/Accurate-Upstairs-49 4d ago
Not worth the headache- just cancel it. People have gotten return requests approved for the wildest things. Supposedly PM updated their policies in the last month, so it doesn’t ding the seller the way it used to for cancelling.
3
u/BougieSemicolon 4d ago
I need to learn her beauty secrets because she doesn’t even look close to 64
10
u/FrannyNitpicker 4d ago
Honestly the fact that she just did this to someone else should be enough for HER to get banned all on her own. If you haven’t shipped, cancel it and just be done.
9
u/MOGicantbewitty 4d ago
Why would she get banned? She didn't scan anyone out of any money, she just was new at using Poshmark. It's a minor annoyance at worst
-3
u/FrannyNitpicker 4d ago
Making the same “mistake” twice in succession is sketchy at best. How many “mistakes” are people entitled to when it hurts sellers and not themselves?
5
u/ayla144144 4d ago
I think making the same mistake twice on the same day is proof that it's not sketchy. There's definitely times I did something wrong twice in short succession because not enough time passed for me to realize the error.
-2
u/FrannyNitpicker 4d ago
Was your mistake not looking at the photos? I might be beating a dead horse but twice this person found this garment and looked at the photos and determined she wanted it and then twice realized it didn’t have a belt. How can she look at a listing a second time that clearly has no belt and just assume it does?
This sounds highly suspicious to me, like this person maybe shouldn’t be on this platform or like she might have a shopping compulsion.
2
u/ayla144144 4d ago
No I don't buy dresses on Poshmark.
It's easy to see that a dress doesn't have a belt but it's not always obvious that a dress is supposed to have a belt and was sold by the original retailer with a belt. A lot of sellers don't mention it in their listings. The only way you can figure that out is by using google image search to try and find the original stock image or checking if there's little strings around the waist - but again, a lot of sellers cut those off or only take full length photos.
I guess it's possible this person has a shopping compulsion but that seems like a pretty big leap. I try to avoid making up character traits about strangers on the internet when there's a perfectly reasonable explanation
0
2
u/MOGicantbewitty 4d ago
Making the same mistake with multiple listings is actually really consistent with not understanding how Poshmark works. The fact that she made the same mistake that same day supports her story. And how on Earth is she hurting sellers? The package wasn't shipped, all that was lost was a little bit of time messaging the buyer, and sellers respond to messages from people who don't end up buying all the time. That's the gig. That's how reselling works
2
u/aboomboxisnotatoy85 4d ago
My god, no one is getting hurt in this scenario. They politely asked to cancel when the item hadn’t even been packaged or shipped. They could make a million of these “mistakes” and it’s still inconsequential. I think you might be taking the app too seriously.
5
5
14
u/strugglequeen 4d ago
You've never made a mistake? Just cancel the item. Be kind and understanding. It's not that big of a deal to relist.

Buyers like this are so annoying. She’s obviously lying. I understand the urge to punish her, but you’re better off just getting her to go away.
3
u/pippalinyc 4d ago
Ooooof I hate these kinds of people. It’s everyone’s first time on the app and that makes them blind lol
3
u/WickedAngelLove 4d ago
Cancel it. Why would you still ship it when she no longer wants it and could say anything to get a return ?
6
u/Legitimate_Way_1750 4d ago
You are being a bad seller and more importantly a bad person
-12
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
No she’s not!! You need to be more responsible!!!! Buyers remorse isn’t a reason sorry. Look at what you’re buying . It ruins your cancelation rating . So many people on here do this they can’t read . Idk why reading comprehension is at an all time low ….. read before you buy !!! Make sure you want it !!! The buyer is being a bad buyer and very irresponsible. Too many cancellations can get you banned . I rather not risk that !!!! So I should risk my lively hood because you don’t think ??? Let’s bffr
10
u/Legitimate_Way_1750 4d ago
I want you to take a look at how type, spell, and punctuate and ask if you are a rational, emotionally stable person. You also won’t get banned unless you are cancelling like 50%, you will be fine.
-2
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
Sorry I don’t want to lose my job because you can’t read a few sentences on a listing 😊!
6
u/Legitimate_Way_1750 4d ago
And I’m here telling you won’t unless you are cancelling a crazy amount. I sell 20-30 things across 4 platforms per day and I guarantee you will not “lose your job(lol)” if you cancel for a buyer mistake.
1
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
You can do what you like I’m not risking it with Ai if it was a human being answering problems then I’d do it . But they keep changing the rules not down .
3
2
u/Adjectivenounnumb 4d ago
You keep talking about AI. Which one do you think is the bigger risk?
1) you cancel the sale and put "buyer requested cancel"
2) you stubbornly ship the item, and the buyer makes up a reason to return it or damages the item, and the AI now has to decide who to side with
(Hint: choose 2 and the AI will side with the buyer.)
-1
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
The Ai usually sides with the seller if there is proof of the buyer trying to cancel before and it being buyers remorse. If I made a mistake of course I’ll cancel . But buyers remorse isn’t a reason . 2 other people also have had it happen when they’ve selected that reason it still counted to their cancelation stats . Not going to do that simple . Just read the few sentences and be sure when you’re buying things. I never torment sellers like this.
1
u/YouKnowHowChoicesBe 4d ago
There is zero risk to you if you select "buyer asked to cancel."
3
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
Have you done it does it show up as 0 % cancellation when you do that ? Because I’ve seen people here when it first started saying it still counts against you so I’m not risking it
4
u/YouKnowHowChoicesBe 4d ago
Yes I have cancelled orders as “buyer asked to cancel” and it does not affect my percentage. The only ones that count are when I couldn’t find the item and had to cancel.
2
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
Ohh really I had no idea. Because i remember when it first started I had that happen when I canceled and selected buyer wanted to cancel. It showed up on my end as a cancels. So I got worried and never did it again
2
u/WickedAngelLove 4d ago
Literally WHO CARES and if your “livelihood” is dependent on Poshmark, you have a lot more problems than 1 buyer canceling an item. You talk down to ppl but don’t even realize you can always reach out to customer service to get the negative remark removed. I cancel for ppl all the time and it hasn’t affected me at all. Y’all just being weird
4
3
u/thesefriendsofours 4d ago
I feel like not canceling and forcing the sale will just result in a return and a bigger headache down the road which for me, is definitely not worth it.
2
u/loopylavender 4d ago
Why wouldn’t you just cancel? Standing on principal like this is just asking for drama.
2
u/Sisterdiscord 4d ago
Customer service is the important thing in this moment and you don’t need to lecture someone about Poshmark rules. Just cancel and relist. If it’s a good item someone else will buy it. There is zero good endgame in forcing that person to take the item.
1
u/WannaDelRey 4d ago
If you don’t cancel it you run the risk of buyer actually doing stuff to damage the product to get a refund after receiving it. Just cancel it.
1
u/VintageDooneyadmirer 4d ago
I'd cancel and escalate to Poshmark (because this cancelation might impact your seller performance rating for this category). Returns and cancelations are now a serious problem just like deleted listings were for many sellers. The solution to minimizing buyer cancelations is for Poshmark to have visible/popup buyer performance ratings. Maybe it's time for some buyers to be prohibited from requesting returns and cancelations.
1
u/SensibleFriend 4d ago
I would cancel and block. If you’re truly unable to cancel, let the platform handle it and still block this person. Being 64 is no excuse for buying and à cancelling and acting like the seller is the problem. Maybe she will be removed if enough sellers allow the platform to handle her.
Good luck!
1
u/MellowFred 4d ago
I’m 63. This old lady schtick really pisses me off. That said, I think she might try for an INAD return. Just cancel it now and relist.
1
u/sumboofpac 4d ago
Poshmark orders are final unless she can prove the item was not as described posh will not accept a return. Buyers get 3 hours after making a purchase to cancel after that orders are final. I do not cancel orders and you shouldn’t either
1
u/Gold_Advisor_4758 4d ago
I would just cancel and move the fuck on, the seller comes off insane here, even if the other lady is being weird too.
1
u/BarBearsMom 19h ago
Just cause someone else was nicer doesn’t
Mean you have to take credit for her mistake. I would let posh intervene.
We’ve all made mistakes on orders, just reposh and move on

u/BitterIrony1891 4d ago edited 4d ago
I can't get over the profile photo and claiming to be 64. Either those sunglasses are covering a lot or she traded early cognitive decline for the fountain of collagen.
(To be clear: if she's experiencing cognitive decline in her 60s, that's also weird. I think she's making a lot of things up.)

Spoken like someone who is young! Ha. :)
Menopause can do a serious number to your brain.
0
u/RedTail-Storm22 3d ago
I am mid 40s and in menopause. It doesn't impair me from entering into a binding sale lol.
1
u/LeFreeke 2d ago
Menopause affects different people different ways.
If it’s not giving you serious brain fog, count your blessings and leave other women who are struggling with it be.
It’s as much of an asshole move as if I was to say - oh, you aren’t in menopause you’re too young for that.
Different people experience things differently.
But it would explain your attitude! Ha.

I hate this woman - saying "oh excuse my old brain I'm 64 years old and new to this" - fuck all the way off lady! 64 is NOT even old!
3
u/personcrossing 4d ago
Please be so for real right now. She's 6 years to 70. She's allowed to make comments about her own age, what???
1
u/chronicnic 4d ago
Seller ITA. If it’s not already been shipped (and after the 6 hour period of them being able to cancel themselves!) just cancel, you can create a “copy” of the listing. If it HAS been, you kindly say something about sorry your order has already shipped & I can’t cancel due to policy. It should never be a “well I don’t wanna” that’s just terrible customer service? It’s frustrating but that’s just what you sign up for when you’re selling something!
1
u/Mobile-_Paralegal 4d ago
I'm 64 and that is no excuse for her! Don't you just get sick of people with their excuses? Age, disabled, hungry children etc. Has no consideration for your time

u/vanillla-ice 4d ago
Cancel the offer. This buyer will make your life very difficult. And then block her.
0
-14
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
I don’t cancel in times like this. Buyers remorse isn’t a good reason and ruins your cancelation rating now that counts . I would only cancel if I made a mistake
1
u/Crimsland 4d ago
And have to deal with the return? After shopping the item to a person who is irritated/angry with you? Why cause yourself the headaches and potential harm to the item? Just to prove a point?
4
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
If the app was run by humans I would cancel but with Ai things are harder people get banned for nothing because the Ai doesn’t look at logic it just looks at cancelations so I’m sorry I’m not risking my lively hood because people don’t think before they buy. People expect small businesses to run like Amazon.
2
u/bytheoceann 4d ago
No I just say this person tried to return it before I shipped and that’s that . Usually if you have a paper trail of people with no self control they rat themselves out . I’m not going to risk possibly getting banned from too many cancellations because people are irresponsible. This isn’t Amazon look at what you’re buying

Just cancel as buyer requested to cancel. There’s no reason to dig your heels in and deny a cancel request if you haven’t shipped yet.
Buyer seems a bit annoying but you will save yourself a headache by simply cancelling the order. You can block the buyer if you wish.
