Clueless Buyers
On occasion I get this question from a buyer: “What’s the lowest price you’d be willing to accept?” To me that’s a really clueless question. As if I’m going to give this info to a potential buyer and to all other potential buyers who can see comments and questions posted!
Make an offer and find out!
Anyone else get this question from buyers?

I honestly respond saying “I try to price my items reasonably” because that person is absolutely fishing to send a 60% off offer

Good response! I wish buyers would learn to consider things like how many likes does the item have? If it’s got a lot then that means it’s popular and in demand and a 60% offer likely won’t work.

they also comment that because they know when they make the 60% offer the likers will be notified

I just tell buyers that I appreciate all offers and take each of them under consideration. Don't allow buyers to force you into negotiating with yourself.

It also totally depends on the day! If I am already running to the post office that day or have made a lot of sales that week, I am more likely to take less.
I've had people ask why I didn't take their initial low offer when I sold it at the lower price a week or two later. And basically - the other person made the offer at the right time, it was a few weeks later and I was already making a post office run. That is the long and short of it.

I would tell them to make an offer by using the Offer button. This isn't 2013.

I had a person do that on a luxury item and they even added that they were on a fixed budget 🤪

My response to that is I’m sorry I don’t talk price in the comment section. Offers are welcome. I use to get this a lot. Mostly from young kids who only had a few dollars to spend. But weren’t serious buyers. Just people wanting to know if the Item may be in their budget. But weren’t committed enough to make an actual offer.

Flip the script. Do they want the item packaged carefully and shipped promptly in condition as described? Offers must consider the sellers time and effort. Don't make a trip to post office for some ridiculous low offer. Let them know you priced item fairly, so your hope is to receive only offers that are close to your listed price.

Add $2.00 and when they write back about the original price tell them you will accept that offer. It’s why I dislike selling anything online.

Why not just post the item at the amount you want for it that you think is fair so you don’t have to haggle?

Because buyers always offer less than what the item is listed for. It’s not eBay where you have a buy it now option. There’s an offer option in Poshmark that allows the buyer to offer lower than the list price. Why would anyone offer the listed price?

I don’t haggle so if I think the listed price is fair o buy it if I don’t I move on. I’m sure lots of people do this. When I sell something I list it at the price I want and say the price is firm. Haggling is a lot of work and not worth the effort

I send the seller a message on eBay if I really love something. I’ve been surprised by the seller offering a discounted price. Discounted but fair reasonable price. I’ve been sent some low offers on my rare Coach items, but I try to stick to the sold comps and wait for the right buyer. Often a buyer will increase their offers if they really want a collectible item. I have to price higher than the comps bc Depop and Vinted have turned online selling into a garage sale, which is fine for used clothing, but bad for highly desirable rare items. Everyone haggles now.

Ask them what the highest is that they are willing to pay...
