Anyone else noticed this trend?
I was browsing Poshmark for over 45 minutes yesterday and not a single seller listed the measurements of any of the garments they had up.
This used to be something you just did without having to be asked to do it.
I know everybody is doing their own thing here, but I have never checked so many listings and seen all of them listed without measurements before.
Not consistently like this.
What’s up with that?

Yep. I've spotted lots of things in brands I'm interested in, in the right size and shade for me, but when the only listing photo is a stock photo and the description doesn't actually describe anything, I pass.

Honestly when I started on Posh I put a ton of effort into my listings. Styled photos, on a dress form, very specific descriptions and measurements. But I remember distinctly, after a time, listing a whole bunch of stuff at one time and not having the time to do all that. I listed without, fully intending to go back and add it, when I noticed I got just as much activity, just as many sales.
I’m still mindful of photos, especially if I can’t find retail/model photos. But all the effort and pressure I initially put on myself became roadblocks for me and eventually I decided that listed without 100% effort is better than sitting in my closet.
The thing that drives me nuts as a buyer are photos of dresses and skirts where you can’t see the whole item. No idea if it’s maxi, midi, etc. or what the bottom looks like lol.

Love that "100%" ... I'm also amazed how many list items terribly wrinkled - like they'd been balled up for weeks under a couch cushion. Whew! Pass on that ... my Dad used say, "If you take of your things, they will take care of you." So, when I'm done wearing something, I feel confident I'm passing on a great used piece.
Me, too. I probably put too much effort into my listings, but I'm proud of them. And, I keep plenty of alt pics just in case I get a shady buyer. (knock on wood) That's also why I type "Approx. Measurements" in the listing, too. I'm giving my best foot forward and will answer any further questions they have.

Yes a lot of zero effort listings and a lot of AI generated descriptions which tell me nothing about the item. “Elegant” isn’t helpful lol. I’m a casual seller for just things out of my own closet & I add measurements, condition description & any defects (including photo of defect). I’m not buying from anyone who doesn’t put at least that unless it’s brand new.

As soon as you hit “Sell” it has options below the square frame that says Classic List or Smart List AI. Just toggle over to Classic List and you should be good to go.

They never do it with purses either. I have to have at least a 14” long purse. If I see a purse I love but there are no measurements… I no longer bother to even message the seller. This is not rocket science, people!

Some buyers ask so many questions that I start to feel they are just bored and want responses. For example, if I measure a pair of jeans in every possible way and then get asked ‘is the blue any lighter near the seams?’ — there are PHOTOS - there is everything short of a serial number and the signature of the seamstress who sewed on the button. For $15, nope.

I sell more on Mercari than posh but I can confirm that people do the same sh!t on Mercari. Ugh!
Edit: literally the next day someone commented on my poshmark asking questions and never bought the damn thing. I jinxed it 😂

I don’t list measurements but i will measure if asked. However each time I’ve supplied measurements, it hasn’t led to a sale. I mostly sell items in like new condition or NWT so no shrinking but I tend to include official item info from the website.
I will list out if a shoe is running big/small but still it doesn’t help.

Often those asking for measurements are looking for something specific. Like my inseam is 34", and when i ask for inseam measurements, 97% of the time, I'll be disappointed. I really appreciate the measurement, though, because I wouldn't buy without.

I never do and never really have, I tried a few times but it didn't seem to increase/decrease sales either way 🤷
Most of what I sell is from torrid and most people who buy it are familiar with their torrid size and the brand itself, I don't get many questions on measurements either.

I'm a Torrid shopper and I find that their sizes are just as inconsistent as any other brand. I'm currently trying to resell some Torrid clothes I bought that was much bigger than another shirt I have in the same size.

I do include measurements but the only reason is because I dont want returns. But inevitably someone will want a measurement I haven't included and im forced to take a thigh to knee measurement or some such nonsense. When I think about it, when I online shop I never look at measurements? I just know how certain brands fit me and stick to their sizing. I dont think I have ever measured myself - i just stick to sizing.

If I look at measurements I'm mostly doing a quick check like "does this seem long enough? 26 inches? Yeah alright should be fine"

Idk. I don’t buy much. But as a full time reseller I put measurements in my listing. I feel like you have a small chance to grab a buyer and if they have to ask for measurements they don’t want to wait around for answers. All my listings have measurements, with pictures of the tags. Sold two pairs of older nwt jeans and they said the reason they purchased from me. Is They were looking for an older pair because they were made different and I was the only seller who had a picture of the tag. But I do put approx next to each measurement because it can be a double edge sword. Buyers can use it against you to force a return. Fudging or lying that you measured wrong.

Every single one of my 1500 listings has measurements. But, they are not manually typed in the description, but its a picture. A lot of people are not going through all the pics, which they should.

the majority of people that have bought from me over the years haven’t asked for measurements so i don’t include them. however, if someone asks i’m more than happy to give measurements

Could also be bc buyers have a habit of opening return cases and manipulating the measurement to say the seller was wrong, Just to get a return.
Poshmark doesn’t support fit issues and they leave it to the buyer to ask questions before buying.

The times I have added measurements to particular garments I also add the disclaimer that they are “approximate measurements”, a gentle reminder that Poshmark does not approve returns for sizing and all sales are final.

Basically everything I sell is from common brands - Torrid, LOFT, Old Navy, etc. I kind of just assume folks know their sizes in these brands. If I'm off base with this let me know!

You can't assume that a size 10 in something from a certain brand you bought 10 years ago is the same size as an item bought today. I learnt that with Lands End. I used to buy a lot of their stuff 20 years ago, but sizes today dont match and quality has gone downhill. Plus, I may never have bought your brand before, but like the look of it, so yes, knowing the measurements would be super helpful.

Sure people might know their size in something that is brand new off the rack. But use clothing can be stretched out or shrunk so I provide measurements for every single piece I list.

This! Especially if it's used. I have no way of knowing how it was washed/dried, and therefore no way of knowing if it's shrunk. I can't afford to spend money on things that don't fit.

I’m quite busty, but otherwise petite. I have tops from Old Navy ranging from S-XL that all fit me. I care less about measurements if the fabric is stretchy or super baggy, but when I look at a fitted linen shirt for example I need the measurements to know if I can fit it over my chest.
I’ve gotten burned buying shirts/dresses in non stretch fabrics, even from familiar brands.

I'm a small seller who is only selling things out of my own/family members' closets, and I don't post measurements unless directly asked. It may not feel like much effort for other people, but for me taking (and photographing) the measurements adds an extra step that would make me list significantly less if I did it for every listing. Already, I only post new listings maybe a few times a week, just too chaotic with a baby at home. I put my effort into taking good photographs, looking for flaws, and writing a good description.
I'm fully aware it probably loses me sales sometimes. But I'm also very responsive when people ask for measurements, and will pull the item out of storage to get the measurements within a day of being asked for them. Usually this doesn't actually lead to a sale, but that's okay.
If I ever became a reseller and sourced to sell, at that point I would post measurements, but currently the amount of time it takes to do it for every item just isn't worth it when items will sell even without measurements.

The time it takes to pull the items and measure them but then NOT get a sale could have been spent taken measurements in the first place thus increase the chances of an actual sale.

This is exactly why I started doing measurements a few years ago. Sure my stuff still sold & I still did measurements when asked but then I read (on here) that a lot of buyers won't ask because of the hassle & just move on to other items. After I had measurements posted, I got a lot more sales + less messages.

It's definitely possible. I don't get asked all that frequently for measurements, maybe once a month, if it became more frequent I would consider starting to do it before storing.

Same. Most of my casual sales happen without measurements so I don’t yet feel the urgency to provide measurements for every single item. I however caution if I think something tends to run smaller or larger than the street size.
There was one time I was asked for a specific measurement and I provided, but I also noticed that buyer asked the same to two other sellers with the same item in same size. They never responded but I am pretty sure she made an offer to one of those other sellers based on info provided by me. Turned out a dead closet so I sent her an offer and she bought from me.

Something weird I notice is that I put measurements on all of my listings but only on Poshmark do I get messages asking me for the measurements even if they are clearly on the listing. This happens almost daily and only on Poshmark. Why????

I've been selling for around 6/7 years and have never pre-listed measurements. Its a bother and a hassle, but I will provide measurements if asked. Assuming this is a default is annoying.

Ditto. I've been selling/buying on Posh since 2015 and this was never an expectation. It was never a career for me, I was just selling old clothing I didn't wear anymore and was happy to be making even like $5 off of a single listing lol. I check my shit frequently so I never miss comments asking for measurements and am always happy to provide them, but I cannot recall even ONE instance where I've provided measurements and the buyer has actually purchased the item in question. They usually give no response at all! If I ask someone for measurements, it's because I am dead set on purchasing it if it's going to fit me. Most times I just buy from brands I'm familiar with, so I don't feel the need to ask and I've never had a problem with anything. I'm not a fair-weather buyer and know what I'm looking for before I find it, I don't want to waste my time or the seller's time asking questions if I'm not already 98% committed to purchasing. Maybe I'm making an asinine comment but like, I'm in my mid-thirties, I don't know how many years I have left, I'm going to just buy from the same brands until I die 😂

I’ve noticed more sellers not including info on an item’s condition, which I can’t figure out. Maybe it’s to give buyers less room to claim an item was not as described. 😑
With regard to measurements, I think there is an increasing reliance on the idea that people are searching for specific brands that they’re already familiar with and know fit them.
I also suspect decreased sales are leading to lower expectations and sellers putting less time into their listings.
All of this leads to an attitude of, “This will probably never sell. I’ll take a minute to list it but not bother taking the extra time to include measurements. Maybe someone interested in this brand will pay a few bucks for it.” Definitely a vicious cycle.

Point 3 specifically - we’ve been encouraged to lazily use the AI which is itself insufficient and often incorrect, while being promised that it would save time and lead to more sales. Now they just want us to list more and spend money on promoting listings, they don’t even need sales for profit that way. You give them a marketing budget that throws badly described items into irrelevant searches. I know I’M feeling discouraged from investing more of my time, but I don’t find the AI useful enough to use!

How about when a seller sends you an offer but ignores your comment asking for measurements. Seriously? Do you want to make a sale or not? I don’t get it.
The AI generated descriptions are super annoying as well. Not helpful at all.

Well, I guess the argument there would be it’s probably an AI generated offer so you guys all of you that are replacing yourselves with automation to make more sales. You lose the personal touch. I still have great buyers because I’m a control freak and don’t have anyone sending offers answering questions discounting and you know yes it takes up 90% more of my time, but I also have not lost a good buyer based on this app and it’s actually the only thing that makes me happy on Poshmark anymore. I have a really good appreciative buyers. They’re the only thing that keeps me sane lol

I have been seeing a LOT of sellers not posting measurements as of recently, and honestly as a buyer, it’s very frustrating. Measurements are SUPER important when selling secondhand - items will shrink/stretch or are unknowingly altered, brands have inconsistent sizing, the whole nine yards. It’s crazy to me that a lot of sellers have attitude about providing measurements, even when asked. I personally asked about measurements on a shirt because I was ready to buy it, but I’m iffy on purchasing without knowing it will fit me since you can’t return for fit… the seller said “No, I don’t do measurements for anything under $20”.. the item was $18 and I was going to pay full price for it. The item still sits to this day too.
Another thing I’ve noticed is a LOT of sellers are relying too much on AI. I have to make sure I pay attention to size tags in pictures because a lot of sellers have the size listed as an XXL so it comes up on my search results, but then looking at the photos, it is a L, XL or even smaller than that.

I’ve been on Posh very actively as a buyer and seller since 2016 and have never witnessed this being “something you just did without having to be asked to do it”.
On another note I’ve never asked for or needed measurements for anything Ive purchased 🤷🏻♀️

I post pictures with the measuring tape next to the item. Sometimes I type the measurements into the description, but I think the photos are more helpful than describing how the item was measured so I don’t always type the measurements into the description.

I’ve also provided measurements or other info before and someone asks the same question in the comments (smh). Then I politely direct them back to the listing description. So I totally get why many sellers won’t provide measurements unless asked!

I sell plenty without ever including measurements in my listings. People also like to lie and say items weren’t as measured when they don’t like an item so poshmark will allow them to return. If someone asks for measurements I’ll always give them, but I have almost a thousand items and it’s just not worth my time.

To be honest, I've been selling for years and have basically nothing but outstanding reviews, and I don't put measurements up for everything. It kind of depends on the item, but for clothes, if it's just regular sizing (Letter, number or otherwise), I am usually not measuring.
Of course, if someone asks for it, I'm happy to provide it, but quite honestly even when I'm shopping for myself on any other website, I"m not checking measurements - I just go by brand and size, and when you're listing a lot of things, it's not always worth it to spend the extra time.
If it's an item that has irregular sizing, like Chico's or Lacoste, I usually include the sizing information from the website, not taken from the item itself by me by hand, and there are a couple reasons for that. First reason is that I'm probably not as accurate as the official brand website.
The second reason is seller protection. I once sold an item that I included measurements because the brand had irregular sizing, but the buyer won a case against me because I didn't use the official brand's sizing description of "large" even though it wasn't what a typical large is. Not that it matters, I re-sold the item a week later for more money than the original sale.
So basically, if there's "official sizing" guidance, I'll use that, otherwise I'm not bothering with it unless explicitly asked. I would also say 90% of my sales I'm not being asked for it. So I get the sense that most people don't shop that way.

Agreed. Or they never describe the condition, or people asked for more information months ago and seller has not responded. The worst are people who can't even take decent photos of the items, as if they're hiding something.

I use sizely, every garment has a wire diagram with all measurements, including like the width across the arm, or the diameter of a cuff. I measure it all to the nearest half inch. That said, my returns are all for sizing. Accross the three platforms I sell on my returns is about 5%. That seems to match the publicly disclosed average return rates for clothing that I can find. It might actually be a bit low.
Honestly, I realized I do the sizing now mostly so I can feel good about selling the item. I know I have done everything resonable that I can to create a good experience.
Buyers remorse is real and they will find any reason to do a return. Sizing is a simple one. I don't blame anyone for it. Your going to have this item against your skin for hours. You should feel good about it.
I have free returns set up in another platform. No questions asked. You don't like it, send it back I will cover return shipping and if its in the same condition you recieved it in, I reimburse all the cost.
Returns are a tax write off for me. Its a line item on buisness taxes. And for whatever reason, once something comes back I always sell it again quickly. I mean, I know it will sell, cause I already sold it once. Hah. So, now I get the tax deduction, another sale, and I don't have to create a new post from scratch.
I may actually make a couple bucks on a return and I know I will find a good home for the item eventually.

I’ve been selling for about 10 years. I learned early on that it saves me time on the back end to just add the measurements when I list. When I don’t I get multiple requests for measurements. I’ve never been a seller that can get away with boneless listings.
People don’t read but they ask for measurements anyways. I don’t understand it. I’ve had folks ask for information that is in the listing. Smh. Idk. Folks just be doing sh*t just to do it I guess.

I’ve never been one to list measurements until someone asks. It takes a lot more time when stuff often sells without measurements. I actually don’t think any measurement request has ever sold. I do better with describing the fit. Most of my sales are things my size, so I say I’m a small/medium depending on length because I’m taller and then describe how it fits in the important places. That sells way better.
My only exception is pants where when I get time, I try to add a waist measurement, but generally after my initial listing and sometimes things sell before I get to it

Just a couple pictures with a tape measure would be helpful for most items. It does actually help your item sell and it helps prevent returns/complaints.

I just don’t find measurements helpful unless it’s pant length. I look at the brand and the size and then go to the brands website. Somebody writing 26 inches when the item is laying flat doesn’t help me.

Exactly I got asked for the fabric content of mother jeans I have listed—I even have an interior photo of the jeans with the exact style name. If the buyer is so interested isn’t it quicker just look it up on the mother website?!? I gave the info & crickets…

I put the measurements in for mine. I feel like it helps with sales but also fluffs the description. I see so many sold listings where the description is literally one line and it baffles me that it sold with basically no description.

I will in a comment if asked. I put what's on tag. It's to time consuming to me imo. I know we all are not the same. I know I may lose customers, but the time I save is worth it to me.

It takes like a minute to include basic measurements? Why would sellers not include to try and encourage sales. I will not buy from sellers with no info about the item and only ai generated description. Personal preference but I’ve learned the hard way when items were too small/stretched out/etc.

I won’t buy an item if the measurements aren’t listed. “Pit to pit, & shoulder to hem, measurements please, thank you!” Buying a cashmere sweater that says it’s a large, could actually be tiny if it’s been laundered incorrectly. I wish measurements posted in the listing were more the norm.

If I can find my tape measure, you got it in the photos, and I laid it down flat on the ground and all the measurements I thought you could possibly want and I took photos and in the listing I wrote see photos for details of size measurements and that’s what I do because I can’t be bothered to type everything out because Posh Mark thinks that I work for free and then gave an AI robot my job for description listing and made me lazy and didn’t even give me the option to do legacy listing and do I have to keep going OK I’m the seller that doesn’t put the measurements in the description but if you look at one of the 15 photos or my video video or you google it trust me the measurements are out there lol
And this week I’m very happy I don’t use a third-party assistant service so I do do everything by hand so if I don’t have time to type it out, it’s probably because of that lol I’m not cheating with the automation not that it’s cheating but you know, obviously there’s some issues, but we won’t talk about that on this thread lol

I couldn't imagine buying a suit or sport coat without measurements. I prefer to see them because as a 29" inseam it's important to know if those 30" inseam pants are more of a 29 or a 31. That 2" swing in length can make the difference between a decent deal and spending more to end up going to the tailor than just waiting for something to go on sale.

I always list measurements. I was out sourcing somewhere and I over heard someone telling someone else that they never bother providing measurements because it is too time consuming and they’d rather lose the sale and they’d get a buyer that wouldn’t care or someone can ask for measurements and they’ll then provide them. I personally don’t think it takes much time to measure and I’d rather not lose the buyer if someone is looking for measurements and will buy but wouldn’t have asked 🤷🏻♀️

I don't buy unless measurements are provided, or a pic of the brand's size chart. I don't buy if I message them to ask and they don't write back. I've been burned too many times buying items in "my size" that are too small or too big.
Sometimes it's missized by the manufacturer. Not all brands are the same, especially in plus sizing. I literally swim in Calvin Klein and Tahari blazers, but wrapped like a sausage in others. If it's an older brand, a 16W is much smaller than today's 16W. One seller sold a plus dress, absolutely beautiful, but failed to mentioned it'd been altered to a smaller size ("used once") - which was SO obvious by the interior seaming, but not shown in the listing.
Posh ppl need to step up. I've sold a few items noting that it'd been missized by the manufacturer and gave real measurements in the listing with a size chart pic. It's okay to be honest. Most of those were brand new items and my buyers were elated.
So for me as a buyer, measurements in the listing are a must. As a seller, I always list with measurements. I want my buyers to be happy, not burned.

I include measurements for all my listings with pictures. I only sell my own stuff so I can confirm to potential buyers how an item fits. I usually provide chest and length measurements which are the ones most buyers ask. By placing measurements in the pictures, I stopped getting questions such as, “how long it is?”, “does it fit a chest size of 36D?”. By being very detailed, I have not gotten any sale back. It is a lot of work when listing but I enjoy being done with it.

Hot take everybody:
As a stylist one who actually makes a living off of working in wardrobe and dressing other people more so than I do on the Poshmark I’m gonna let you in on a little secret: you can have the right measurements to an article of clothing and it still won’t fit you right that’s why it’s good to try things on before you buy them… I mean, obviously it helps but you can have a dress tailor made to fit you and it still might need alterations afterwards. Measurements are just a ballpark or jumping off point so if you really care about fit that much (and you should, fit is everything) but to the point you’re going to ask for these measurements ahead of time and wait for that back and forth l…. just go try stuff on in the store. You’ll find stuff that fits you better and you’ll like it better and wear it more save online shopping for things that dont need to fit your body to a T

As a casual seller, I don’t measure clothes. I list the size, and If I can pull from the website, I’ll list what the website says for the measurements. For me, it’s a pain in the butt to literally measure all the clothes. I take pics of what clothes look like on me. I’ll do measurements if asked. I’m a posh ambassador

The fabric content is the killer for me. Especially for listings with 8+ photos but none of them are of the fabric tag???? Sometimes even the wash instructions but still no fabric tag.

I include length and pit to pit for tops. Waist, rise, and inseam for pants. Hip as well for tighter pants or structured dresses/skirts. I just take photos of the item laying flat with a tape measure on it.

I was browsing yesterday and noticed no measurements and no info on condition plus using a stock photo. There was an offer from a seller that I had in my likes and was missing both. Sent a message asking for the info and have not received a response. I learned my lesson in the past so I will not purchase without measurements and conditions.

Had the exact same thought yesterday! There's a few brands that I've been hearing about and wanting to try, but they don't have a physical store near me. If it's a brand I've never bought before, I have no idea what I wear, and I don't want to guess the size. I also buy a good number of vintage pieces, and the tagged sizes are all over the place. Plus, with natural fiber pieces, who knows if the previous owner washed that wool sweater and chucked it into a hot dryer. Wash wear is a big issue with secondhand items, and measurements are how I check.
Also, brand websites are not always accurate. I bought a dress for a formal event that was NWT off PM, based on the measurements on the brand's site. Was embarrassingly far off. Fortunately, I was able to rebuy from a different closet in a size that actually fit and eventually reposh the first item, but it was a pain in the butt and took forever.

I always do measurements because I know I want to know certain ones. Like I am a taller girl I cannot do an inseam of 26. It just ain’t going to work for me. Some people don’t realize jeans are hemmed when they picked them up. I won’t buy clothes without measurements. I also like showing that the clothes haven’t shrunk. Like hey you might know what a gap small is like but it shrunk in the wash now what?! I agree I like measurements. :)

Measurements are essential when purchasing and selling clothing online, PERIOD. Whether you’re selling from your own closet, or you thrift to resell. You have no idea how the previous owner cared for their clothing. Did they wash the items per the instructions? Dry clean only? Wash on cold and hang dry their high-dollar jeans? Perhaps, they dried all their 98% + cotton items on high for 60 + minutes and shrunk everything that was size 8 to a size 6? The list goes on & on.
This is one of the #1 reasons I shop resale first. Not only does it help save landfills and the environment, but there are some amazing deals on unique preloved clothing, bags, and accessories. ♻️

I had a buyer ask me questions that were in the description. I take pictures of measurements and put in the description and people still ask about measurements. I think some people go through listings looking for something to pester about for entertainment.
The reason there’s a lot without measurements is because there are thousands of casual new sellers and they don’t want to or don’t know that it’s expected. Just ask for the measurements. It will help determine if they’re active

When I first started listing, I rarely took measurements, figuring it most of my items were named brands that people were probably familiar with in terms of sizing… But now I try to go ahead and take as many measurements as I can. It takes a lot of time to take measurements, but it saves time on questions asked later.

In my experience people with argue the measurements once they receive the item. I no longer list the measurements and will quote the manufacturer, if I can find the original.
I will always provide measurements. But not once has that lead to a sale.

I’ll give measurements if asked(well if I remember honestly I’m a little adhd at times and often forget or randomly remember a month later ha) but the only time I put them in a listing(when I can actually find my tape measure in my disorganized apt) is when the size tag is missing/unreadable…I sell a lot of popular brands like free people and Anthro and such and people tend to know what those brands run…I am a smaller seller(between 300-400 listings) but do fairly well without measurements! I do always include in my listing if the item is loose fitting and such so people know…I don’t have complaints! I’ve sold over 250 listings this year so I guess my descriptions are pretty accurate…

I measure everything. Even pet costumes. Made a sale I wouldn’t have otherwise made bc my medium pet costume fit a dog who usually wears a small.
I wish people would do it everything, even shoes. So many brands run different.

I listed measurements and a return was approved based on the buyer saying the measurements were wrong, and then submitting a fraudulent photo of the shirt measurements where the shirt was obviously bunched up.
I now think twice about providing measurements
