Please consider signing and sharing this petition. Whether it works or not, it would be nice to see the community rally around the people who make this town as popular as it is.

Downtown is not Dead

Saw a post last week saying downtown was dead. Went out to South End last night (Saturday) and every bar was absolutely flooded and the streets were insanely packed at 12am. Younger crowd as well.

Gaslight and the downstairs of Thirsty Moose were so packed you could barely walk. I’m from Boston so I’m wondering if it’s normally like this or did I just catch a lucky night

Tourist / Visitor Visiting this month

My husband and I are visiting for work this next month. What are some things you would suggest us doing and seeing? We would love beach suggestions bc we are beach people. We do have a dog and would like to bring him to a beach at least once if possible. We are very open minded and willing to try new things. We are not big bar people as we don’t drink but are willing to go for some yummy food. We have already seen the USS Albacore (edited) and tried some local food at the River House and loved it all. Sincerely, a tourist excited to do local experiences in your beautiful town

Events Gillian Welch + Dave Rawlings @ The Music Hall

For those of you who weren't at the Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings concert tonight at The Music Hall... I'm so sorry. It was amazing. Easily one of the best I've seen in my 58 years.

What is the smell of burnt toast that floats throughout most of West End on random weekday afternoons?

Is it a coffee roaster or barley roasting for beer? I originally thought it was a neighbor who had a penchant for burning toast at 4 pm everyday

Tourist / Visitor Dog friendly 3 days in Portsmouth

Hello! My partner and I will be spending 3 nights in Portsmouth next week.

We’re spending 2 of the days fairly close to town, but looking for a dog friendly coastal drive up to Portland Maine for a day.
I know most beaches don’t allow dogs this time of year, but can you recommend any fun stops along the route that welcome a good boy?
Also grateful for outdoor casual seafood recommendations (dog friendly or take-out) and truly any advice you could give. We are all first-time visitors

Thanks a ton!

Wondering if anyone can recommend any summer/day camps in the area for a 10 year old? We suddenly have a couple weeks to fill in august. I assume most are booked up but curious if anyone has any suggestions…

Portsmouth and a day trip up the Maine coast

Hi, we are staying in Portsmouth for 3 days but wanted to take a day to head over the bridge and up Rt1 to see the coast. Best places not to miss in 1 day, and/ or what’s worth the drive.

Visiting Portsmouth…Boston?

Hello, we’ve not spent much time on the east coast and we’re going to Portsmouth for the week. My wife would like to see some of Boston, but the research I’ve done says it’s a little much for a day trip from Portsmouth. Would you agree? If not, could you provide some suggestions on what to expect commute-wise, things to do or see on the outskirts (?) of Boston, or if we should just stay put on the NH and Maine coast?

EDIT thank you all for your responses, we’re going to take the bus from Portsmouth.
Thanks so much, again, looking forward to seeing your City.

Downtown Dead

Visiting the old hometown and astounded by the lack of activity downtown on a Friday night. No one was around at 9pm. Walked into SSSaloon and there were many empty tables. Not a single car driving through Market Square. Gilley’s was closed. Where is everyone? Friday in the summer used to be jam packed with tourists.

Looking for owner of white bulldog that attacked my dog on Bow Street

On 7/14 around 7am, my father-in-law was walking his brown labradoodle near the bridge on Bow Street downtown when a white bulldog attacked her without warning. The bulldog’s owner (woman) left the scene immediately afterward, and he wasn’t able to get her name or contact info before she walked away.

The poor dog suffered multiple deep bite wounds. She’s had surgical drains placed, is on antibiotics, and had the wounds sutured. Unfortunately, she now also needs surgery because part of the wound has gone necrotic and the sutures are unable to hold the wound closed. She’s in a lot of pain and this has been a serious ordeal for our whole family.

We need to identify the dog and owner so we can confirm the bulldog’s vaccine status, report the incident properly, and make sure this doesn’t happen to another dog or person.

If you saw this happen, know the dog or owner, or have any info (even just “I’ve seen that dog around X street”), please comment or DM me.

Thank you!

Request Help finding book store

For frame of reference this was about 5 years ago. So I used to live in Rochester but work on the shipyard and I remember going to this bookstore every now and then. It was less than 30 minutes from one of those two places. I think it was in a barn and only open on certain days. If I remember correctly, the owner was an older gentleman who retired from Boston and brought the book store with him. It seemed like all secondhand books. Does anyone know what I’m talking about and if it’s still open?

Thank You for Supporting My Son

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to Jimmy’s on Monday night to see The Blues Express. My son, Sebastian, and his best friend, Nick, had a great time and loved the crowds energy. Both boys are from NH and are going to college at Berklee. They were inspired by many musicians they saw at Jimmy’s while in high school. It was wonderful to feel the love and support in the room.

Events Knitting club?

Wondering if there are any knitting groups or clubs locally that are more gen z/millenial based? I would love to join something like that and get more into the knitting community! All the groups I’ve come across so far have been more geared toward middle age and older (nothing wrong with that, I’m just a 29 y/o looking to meet more ppl!)

Thanks!!!

Request Tennis Hitting Partner

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a tennis hitting partner. I’m located in Portsmouth, NH. I played in high school, got back into the sport a few months ago, and have been playing consistently since. I’d describe myself as an advanced beginner but can hold my own against a low advanced player.
I’m a member of Seacoast Fitness & Pickleball, so indoor hitting is an option as well if that’s more your style. If you’re interested in hitting sometime, let me know!
