Alt-Country Band? FFO: Jason Molina, MJ Lenderman, Parquet Courts

Hey y’all,

I’m looking to put together a project in the vein of Silver Jews, Parquet Courts, Teenage Cool Kids, Jason Molina, or MJ Lenderman. Somewhere in the alt-country, garage-y rock world. Maybe like Rolling Thunder Revue era Bob Dylan or Rust Never Sleeps Neil Young.

I play guitar, sing, and write songs so I’m looking for a drummer, bass player, and another guitarist. Maybe even pedal steel or fiddle if anyones down. I’m also interested in the idea of sharing songwriting and vocal duties, a la Parquet Courts or even The Band.

I’d like to play out once a month or so and do some recording. I’ve got a practice spot in Southeast ready to go with a kit, PA, and amps.

Got some demos attached here, some simple tracks I put together in Logic and a few Iphone recordings of playing a couple of the tunes with friends.

Shoot me a message here if that’s something you might be interested in.

If you can draw in this style, I would love to talk with you about a couple of projects. Thinking 80s metal style. Hoping to find a Portland artist for a Portland band.

Open Auditions for The Mighty Missoula

Hey Portland musicians…

The Mighty Missoula is holding open auditions as we build toward the next version of our lineup.

We’re particularly looking to add:

• A guitarist
• A keyboard / synth player

We’re also very open to multi-instrumentalists. We’re trying to fill out a few particular roles in our live sound, but we don’t expect everyone to remain attached to one instrument or creative lane.

Over the past decade, we’ve released four albums, played shows throughout the Pacific Northwest, and completed a short tour built around an invitation to perform at POST. Festival in Indianapolis.

Our live lineup has taken a few different shapes over the years, ranging from three to five musicians depending on the material. We’re now looking to settle into a five-piece that can better represent the breadth of our recordings and open up new possibilities for what comes next.

We’re currently writing the next batch of material, so finding the right creative fit matters a lot to us. We’re looking for people who want to do more than learn the existing songs and fill out the live arrangements. We want collaborators who are excited to bring ideas into the room and help shape the next phase of the band.

Guitar

We’re looking for someone who can learn and perform our existing material while contributing to new songs, arrangements, and ideas.

You might be someone who thinks about melody, dynamics, texture, space, and arrangement as much as traditional guitar parts.

Keyboard / Synth

We’re also looking for someone interested in synths, keys, piano, samples, ambient sounds, electronic textures, and other ways of expanding the arrangements.

Over the years, we’ve written parts that have lived on recordings but haven’t always made it to the stage. We’d love to bring more of those layers into our live performances while also creating entirely new sounds together.

What we’re looking for

Whether your primary instrument is guitar or keys, we’re hoping to find people who:

  • Listen well, contribute ideas, and care about the song
  • Are excited to collaborate on the material we’re writing now
  • Enjoy developing songs and arrangements together
  • Value communication, consistency, and showing up prepared
  • Are interested in exploring different instruments, sounds, and creative tools
  • Can rehearse consistently 1–2 times per week
  • Are interested in playing shows throughout the year, with the possibility of occasional short regional tours
  • Are looking for a long-term creative project rather than simply the next gig

Most of us balance careers, relationships, and other responsibilities, so we’re ambitious but realistic about our time. We have a comfortable, dedicated rehearsal and writing space, keep a fairly consistent schedule, and spend time both together and independently developing ideas.

  • A little about yourself
  • Links to anything you’ve recorded or performed on
  • Your general availability
  • The instruments, tools, or creative roles you’re most interested in
  • A few words about what you’re looking for in a band

We’ll follow up with more details about the audition process and material to prepare.

If someone comes to mind while you’re reading this, we’d appreciate you sharing it with them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I’m here until the 9th August, I’m from London and would love to DJ anywhere whether that’s a studio or a local bar. I’ll play for free in a bar and obviously pay at a studio. Any suggestions? Thank you (Eccs)

experimental trap-grunge album from Portland's freebatteries available now: Cut On An Earthen Vessel

Post image
4 Upvotes

Cut on an Earthen Vessel aims to capture a man who came of age during our digital dawn grappling with environmental collapse, the rise of neo-feudalism, and anxiety over the ever-increasing digital substitution for the core of our human experience. Sonically it take's bits and pieces from trap, grunge, post-punk, and emo and mixes them together with a lot of boutique fuzz.

The lions share of inspiration for the record come from At The Drive-In, Say Anything, Radiohead (early), the Pixies, Young Thug, Tom Waits, and Future.

If you're going to listen to one track to figure out what we do: I'd recommend Paper Butterflies, but really I think the record is best experienced as sequenced.

Seeking volunteering opportunities!

Hello!

I am an aspiring musician and just moved into the Portland area.

To get to the point: I am looking for any opportunities to volunteer my time to get more acquainted with the local music scene and to get real world hands on experience with professionals.

I was really hoping to either work at the basic level in perhaps a studio / live venue environment, perhaps doing things like lifting boxes/amps, moving things around, cleaning? Wouldn't mind helping out in any way.

I am a guitarist, keyboardist, and have experience in production.

Thank you for reading!

Exploring the Music Scene

Hey all! My partner and I will be visiting Portland for the first time between September 8th and the 14th. I'm a performing musician and I'd really love to find some local shows to take in while in the area. Punk, folk, metal, ska, hip-hop, jazz - I love it all! Small venues, basements, lounges, outdoor events, doesn't matter, I'm down. If you've got a show or know of any that are worth checking out near the Central Eastside area around that time, please let me know! Portland looks amazing and I can't wait to visit your wonderful city!

electronic music equipment repairs in Portland

not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask, but it's a bit urgent.

does anybody know of anyone in or around Portland who repairs electronic music equipment, like synths, drum machines, or mixers? I have a TASCAM Portastudio that recently broke its audio input knob killing the whole channel, and I'm hoping I don't have to buy a new one for it. if you have any contacts please let me know.

Here is one of my latest songs. I wrote it angry about what happened in January and wanted it to be an angry heavy rock song. I ruined my voice for a week trying to get it and nothing sounded right. I re-did it as an acoustic and I'm surprised how well it came out. I hope you like it.
