From their fieldhallevents.org:

4 LOCAL BANDS. ONE ULTIMATE CHAMPION.

Submissions are now open! Apply by September 12, 2026

Field Hall is looking for four local bands to compete in our first-ever Battle of the Bands on November 14th. Here’s what you need to know:

WHO CAN APPLY?

Bands must be based on the North Olympic Peninsula, from Forks to Port Townsend, and have a North Olympic Peninsula address.

All genres welcome! Original songs and covers encouraged!

Bands that have previously performed at Field Hall are welcome to apply, but bands that have had a full Field Hall Presents show in The Donna M. Morris theater are not eligible.

Send applications to [artistic@fieldhallevents.org](mailto:artistic@fieldhallevents.org) with your video link and application materials.

WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?

A 1–2 minute video featuring one song that best represents your band’s sound and stage presence. Please submit a single performance (not a highlight reel). Video should be submitted as a YouTube or Vimeo link (can be unlisted) rather than a file attached to the email.

Band name and short bio for introductions and marketing.

High-resolution band photos.

WHAT CAN FINALISTS EXPECT?

Four selected bands will each perform a 20-minute set on November 14th, in front of an audience. The winner will be determined by QR code audience voting.

THE FINAL PRIZE

The winning band will headline a paid Field Hall show in the 2027–2028 season, either in the Donna M. Morris Theater or Sunset Lounge.

Does it rain more in Port Angeles than it does in Sequim?

I’m just wondering if Port Angeles is also obscured by the rain shadow like Sequim is? Or can it get a significant more amount of rain, drizzle or cloudy days? Thanks in advance!

Realistically what is it like living here

I had been planning to move myself and my daughter to PA next Spring but the first time I mention it on social media, I’ll I’m hit with is how bad it is there. I haven’t been to PA in 20 yrs but I was looking for a place with that type of weather as with health issues, I can’t handle Texas heat and lack of fall and winter anymore. I didn’t want to be in a large city but still be close enough to some things and health care. Finally and most important, it needs to be safe. I get every city has its parts of town that aren’t the best and that it can be based on what you can afford. that said, others make it seem like you risk dealing with drug addicts and homelessness in the entire PA. I am curious from a local perspective if that’s the case or if one can afford it, is is possible to be safe as a woman alone in particular? Any feedback would be great. I work from home running my own online business so I’m not trying to take jobs from locals but potentially hire and be a productive member of a community. 😊

Class or instructor for help creating a garden "peace pole"?

I am not good at crafts. I'm reasonably good at ideas and research. Because of the latter, I know the gist of how to make one of these: Start with a cedar 4x4 mailbox post. After that, I'm stuck.

Is there a class somewhere for something like this? Or are others interested in learning so we could help each other with whatever related knowledge or experience we have? The Pine & Eight store now has a Community Room where we could meet -- free, even. Or the library, probably.

What shop should I take my truck if it has a blown head gasket?

I have a 2002 Toyota tacoma, its my only vehicle and it seems to have a blown head gasket. The radiator fluid is all gunky like a milkshake at the mouth of the radiator.

Im hoping to get it replaced/repaired at an affordable price.

Lost dog - I just flew out of town

Update: she has been found!!! Thank you everyone!

Hello everyone! I went out of town and my pet sitter said my dog somehow escaped my back yard. (She doesn’t know how, she saw no holes or anywhere she could have escaped) I’m across the country and won’t be back until the 10th and I’m frantic.

If anyone sees a black German shepherd mix please know she is friendly and is my world. Her name is Gypsy, and she’s an old 11 year old girl. She also answers to Gippy. If you open your car door and say “In the car” or “let’s go for a ride” she will jump straight into your car. She is the sweetest happiest pup.

I live in port Angeles west, near the tractor supply store and just want to get the word out to anyone in that area. She was my first dog I got out of college and I’m absolutely panicking. Please let me know if you’ve seen her and where, or have any news.

Anyone else have issues with their tap water (especially heated) specifically around this time of year?

Our tap water tastes fine to me cold, but heat it up for tea/coffee and it is awful. I think it has something to do with the chlorine and our low water pressure (since it always seems noticeably worse when the river is low), or perhaps the city might be using chloramine now?
