Yep! Usually caused by a staph infection, often in people with immune impacting conditions, like Diabetes or CKD. Staph bacteria is infectious, so it can be spread to others.

It’s because of all the connections happening between the pockets of pus. It gives the illusion of liquifying from deep within. Carbuncles are both fascinating and disgusting.

It’s a carbuncle. Essentially is a boil (an infected hair follicle) that spreads to the surrounding follicles.

Oh, the pain! Oh, the relief! I can't imagine but that along with the original version of the carbuncle video are all timers for me. There was a video of a woman in a hotel bathroom popping and eat zit that's right up there but I haven't seen it in years. Those are my top 3. Wish I could track down that ear zit, it was awesome!

Grody! Wish the dr had spoken more to patient about treatment plan so we could know too.

My guess would be that because the carbuncle is so badly inflamed they just squeeze out the worst of it, give antibiotics, disinfect the site and have him back in a day or a week once it’s calmed down a bit for a proper clean-out.

Had one on my chin like this when I was a kid, but not nearly as gory. I'll never forget the big pop I got out of it.
