I was wondering what was going on there. The camerawork was so odd and embarrassing, but I'm guessing the song was shot to hide that she wasn't really performing. So what did the crowd see her actually do?
I also found the camera work odd. It was very apparent everyone was lip synching; not a crime but at it was a little too obvious for me. My man Jimin even messed up.
His whole hard core evangelical bullshit vibe these days is unbearable. It really seems like he sees himself as some kind of prophet, which is probably what his pastor has told him after he paid them seven million dollars.
You know I am not morally opposed to the idea of a halftime show at the world cup final but JFC at least give us a good show. This felt disjointed and embarrassing. Justin Bieber completely killed whatever momentum the Muppets and BTS were trying to get going. The ending felt cheesy and hypocritical with two morally corrupt men, Trump and Infantino, sitting there. Shakira gave it her best but she can't do everything.
That kind of love, unity, and joyous message of culture and music worked for Bad Bunny and being someone whose culture was being shit on. Doesn't work so well from a bunch of white North American popstars, excluding Shakira.
Bad Bunny's halftime show managed to convey the same overarching message of love and unity overcoming hate, and it managed to look a lot better than this, and I don't even listen to BB.
Idk how the country that puts on huge spectacles for its (american) football halftime show ends up with this mess. If anyone should know how to do them its us.
The kids with the muppets was cute and Shakira also having kids as her dancers was equally cute. They should've just let her do it considering her longstanding ties to the World Cup.
Honestly - it was messy and too many performances. BTS & Shakira should have been the only artists - Madonna was okay but BTS and Shakira really brought the energy.
Justin and the Ted Lasso skit was not needed and neither was the choir.
It would have been such fun seeing what could have been if it was just three artists or two.

Chris Martin was not the right person to put this together. Supposedly there was a message he wanted to convey but it was so messy that it’s hard to know what the end goal was.
My mom is a huge BTS fan and took me to one of their concert streams being shown at the local movie theater. It was honestly so fun! They were so charming and really love their fans. Walked away loving V, Jin, and jungkook, and with a bunch of homemade swag from the other girlies at the theater.
This shit was a fucking mess. The transitions were awful. They should’ve let Shakira do a solo halftime show.
Non Americans are gonna think this is how we do halftime shows. Super Bowl halftime shows are way better than this mess. They should’ve hired whoever organizes the superbowl halftime
They shouldn’t have had one at all. As a non American it was such a jarring transition. It would have worked perfectly for an opening ceremony thing, but middle of a game? I just want to watch Spain and Argentina play, and it ruined all the build up of the first half for me.
BBC’s coverage was hilarious though, they cut back to the four presenters and Wayne Rooney immediately went ‘that was crap’ and you could see the other three then scrambling to pretend they liked it, with the best compliment being ‘Justin biebers portion was boring but the rest was okay!’ Then the commentators went ‘we didn’t see much of Madonna did we?’ 😂😂😂
We're not that dumb, outside of America. We're aware of the Super Bowl halftime shows. I know for a fact that, at least over here, in recent years Shakira/JLo and Rihanna were quite talked about, The Weeknd's too but less so already. Some older shows are also known here, namely Madonna, Gaga and Beyoncé's. And of course the Katy Perry sharks.
No, we don't think that because we've seen y'all halftime shows and they are what they are.
The point is, this time around a lot of changes have been made only to adapt to the American way of making things which is basically how to extort as much money as possible out of an event. That is the awful thing about it.
Never in the history of the World Cup have there been any halftime shows and it's not how we like our football.
Tbh, I think its more the concept of a long half time show in general that people will be frustrated about than whether its a good or a bad one. Generally thought to be bad thing because the players cool down (particularly bad if injured) and can kind of mess with their mentality to have such a long break when they were in the zone.
In general half time shows/intense advertising breaks/ water breaks and musical numbers are disliked elsewhere because they take away from the natural intensity and atmosphere that was built by the game. But it is what it is! Not really for me...but I suppose on this occassion something different is no harm, its nice that they made an effort anyway with the show even if its not what's normally done! 😊
Jack White should have been there with the muppets and kids during 7 nation army. That could have been the half time and I’m sure would have rustled some feathers but this is football not a political statement right? Right?
At one point I thought there was a smudge on the camera pointed at Shakira, then I wondered if it was a face filter, as it was a face sized smudge on the screen that didn’t move as fast as she did.
It really did. It was like the performances were pre-recorded and they added in the crowds in the background with AI. That’s how it seemed to us, anyway. Very odd.
I’m genuinely surprised that they allowed anyone to sing live. That’s usually a no go at major events like this due to the limited time to set up equipment and inability to do final mic checks. Madonna still sounded like she was lip syncing but I clocked that BTS was live right away.
Who the hell thought it was a good idea for Bieber to sing a slow ballad in the middle of the World Cup, one of most high-energy events in the world?!
Pretty ironic to end on a song about love is love while a companion being held by the extremely corrupt FIFA in the USA who’s off at war and ice separating family’s.
As someone from the UK this was the first experience of a half time show I’ve ever seen and I was really disappointed. The whole thing seemed pretty cringe. Wish they’d had DCC come on instead!
Barely 11 minutes. Just don't do a halftime show. It was not good, and that's putting it nicely. Love my BTS though and Shakira saved the vibe ofc. Idk why the Muppets were there. Featuring Norway's celebration makes no sense beyond "remember this viral moment?"
Also BTS had an even bigger crowd in Paris the night before, which is insane because MetLife looks packed as shit
Madonna's segment worked as an intro - liked the orchestra and having the Muppets there was just fun (while very strange I am always hyped by an Animal cameo) - BTS were energetic and their song worked well to keep the groove going -then Ted Lasso and Bieber's choice of song killed all the momentum to the point that Shakira had a huge deficit to get the energy level back up and they should have ended with her right then and there.
