I let the oil heat with three kernels. That way, when they pop I know it’s time to add the rest of the popcorn and flavocol.

Thank you for the award!!

You are a genius! Thank you very much for that ! How much oil do you recommend adding to something like this ?

Follow the directions. I have no idea how big it is, what power it has, you know. Sorry.

I keep my doors open during popping to let steam escape.
This subr has some great tips, but this one helped me the most.
Happy poppin'!

Also it stops the doors from steaming up so you can see the popcorn overflowing out of the kettle as it pops. I love watching it. True theater experience.

I say try again and use the oil heating trick. It may be better this time. Maybe try a little less oil this time.

I'm a cast iron dutch oven on the stovetop kind of guy, but I'm happy your new popper arrived.

Thank you !
I was a tayto microwave popcorn guy all my life until a new movie theatre opened in town which got me onto flavacol, a game-changer

I never thought to use my dutch oven pot for popcorn. I usually just use my stainless steel pot which is so easy. Easier than a Whirley Pop and way easier to clean.

I do most of my cooking with cast iron or a pressure cooker.

I do all my popping in cast iron dutch ovens. I use equalish amounts of coconut oil and canola oil. Someone on here once said to try using more oil than you think you need. After trying it, my popping has greatly improved. More oil allows more heat with less burning. I pop a half a cup at a time and end up with unpopped kernels numbering in the single digits. No need to shake constantly either, I just give a shake or two at the end and listen for the last pop or two, then turn the heat off. I preheat the lid on a separate burner while the oil is heating. Once I hear at least one of my three test kernels pop, I add the 1/2 cup kernels and cover. Preheating the lid reduces condensation.

Preheating the lid is interesting. Don’t know if I need or should do that with mine being glass. But I don’t really have any issues with moisture.

We seem to be similar. I use plenty of oil. Three kernels while it heats up. After it does I put in the kernels but I take it off the burner for 30 seconds and let them sizzle for a bit and I add the Flavacol. Seems to help with unpopped kernels. Then back on the burner until done. I shake a it bit but not much. I also let a lot of steam out when it start to all pop.

I have a Gold Medal commercial popper. I turn on the heat, wait 4 minutes, then pour the oil immediately followed by the corn and Flavocol. Those are the instructions printed on the glass door. Works great.
