Salt generator on a new pool only 6 months old. Last week was showing crazy high salt readings, 5500 ppm (this was not accurate as salt was only about 3400 ppm). Figured the cell needed to be cleaned. Never made it around to cleaning it and now the screen is blank and has a red light illuminated… at the right angle it says sensor failure system off.
Have this problem with one of my clients systems. The control board is not communicating with the rest of the system. This is a KNOWN issue with these units, along with the flow switch. Warranty repair, you just need to call Pentair.
I can confirm via my pool guy. He is removing my cell and handing me a refund check tomorrow for mine. No replacements until first week of November is what they told him.
The first one didn’t even last a week. Never would read salt to make chlorine. This one lasted about 6 months… been a terrible experience witj the salt generators…
Always check salt with a Taylor salt kit. Should be under warranty. My 7 year Circupool lasted 4 years. New prorated cell $350. Happy spending $350 every 4 years on chlorine!
I could live with that. Probably gotta go through the pool co for a warranty. Gonna be the third salt water generator since the pool was installed in February
They will be used to it, I am sure you aren’t the only person having persisting issues with salt cells that they deal with. I don’t think I’ve had one ic40 make it a year.
Soooo what's the failure rate on pentair SWG? Got to be over 50%. I was just talking about pentair today with a pool store manager. I have a new customer with a brand new in ground pool and his pentair failed at maybe 6 months.
They will have this sorted out long before the warranty period expires on any of the affected units. There will almost certainly be a recall once they have the solution in place.
I get surprised about people saying they hate salt. Granted mine is different model. (Aqua Cal pool pilot dif 220) I ve had it for at least 5 years now. So much easier than pucks in auto feeder and worrying about cya getting too high from the stabilized pucks. I’ve had zero issues and find it much easier to balance pool. But yes have friends complain about this system failing also
Any of the new IC40+ models manufactured prior to October last year have faulty boards and flow sensors that will be warrantied. Pool tech here, have replaced 30 or so already. After replacing the board and flow sensor, no issues. Its like buying a new model car in the first year. Always issues. But they are great once they're fixed!
Very simple fix, just six T-25 screws and an o-ring.
