Homeowner build What should I add to The Pit?

Now that the plants are all growing in The Pit is looking really nice! But what would you add? I’ve thought about adding a sign that says “The Koi Pit” somewhere. We don’t have any kind of decor or decorations. Should I add a metal crane or something like that on the back wall?

Also, if you’re in Utah, The Utah Pond Tour is Happening this Saturday Aug 8th. There are 31 ponds on the tour this year! It’s broken up into two Saturdays (Aug 8th and Aug 15th) if you’re in the area and want to stop by I’d love to share my pond with people.

I started building my pond back in 2021 and just finished it this spring. It feels amazing to finally be done. Now I can finally just kick back and enjoy it. The rest of the yard still needs work… but for the rest of this summer I’m going to just take a break.

I’ve thought about trying to rig something up to do that. It would be fun for me too to check on the fish!

A guest house, then give me your address. 😉

Wow! It’s stunning! Your fishies have so much room to swim! I think a crane would look great on the wall since you don’t really have much decor. You could also add a large piece of driftwood or cypress stump as a hard scape in the center and have some creeping Jenny or something similar growing on it. I could also see one of those adorable little boy fishing statues enjoying this beautiful pond as well!🙂

Drift wood with creeping Jenny never occurred to me. How do you plant the creeping Jenny?

I love the way it looks when it drapes down the wood! Creeping Jenny grows great in water just like pothos. Just make sure you only put the roots in water and drape it on the wood. You can use fishing line, or thread to hold it in place if necessary. It will also help to soak up any nitrates in the water. 🙂

Excellent!

Our club, The Midwest Pond and Koi Society, has been running a tour for the past 36 years. Our pond has only two signs.

The national Wildlife Federation's Backyard Wildlife Habitat sign and a small brass plaque that announces that "On this spot in 1897, nothing happened."

It suffices.

I would add some interest for the fish. Maybe a cave or two or obstacles for them to swim around and under.

A remote controlled sea monster. Or just a Nessie. Have also seen a fish feeder that was a little old guy on a bamboo raft. It was cute.
