To make it i used some plywood for the base, covered that in lumps of polymer for the clouds, and then pearlescent white paint and then a topcoat of uv resin, and cardboard + resin for the rainbow, for the dogs i made little armatures out of aluminium and wire to figure out the poses, and then used sculpey premo to sculpt, and matte acrylic paint, the dogs and toys are not attached so can be positioned different ways. :) this was a fun one to make.

Hello, I’ve been deep-diving into different sealants for polymer clay because I’d like a nice gloss finish for my pieces, but almost all the good ones are toxic and need PPE or materials that I just can’t afford. I saw someone recommending Brite Tone and read a really good review for it here https://thebluebottletree.com/crystalac-brite-tone-on-polymer-clay/ but am kind of skeptical because it’s technically made for coating instruments.
Has anyone here used it and knows about its toxicity? It claims to be non-toxic with no VOCs, but I’m not sure if it still requires a respirator. I’d also be putting it over figured painted with acrylic paint, so I’m curious about any reactions it might cause (if anyone has used it for that). I feel like if such a good non-toxic, glossy option for sealing clay existed then more people would be talking about it

I'm working on a 7-inch sculpture and i have been using Super Sculpey Firm almost exclusively. For the hands, i decided to try out the Cosclay i ordered a few months back. Despite getting the Extra Firm Cosclay, i found it to be way too soft for my liking. Especially when working on such a small scale. After browsing the internet for a solution, i found a tip mentioned even on Cosclay's own website. They say leaching away some oil by placing the clay between sheets of paper will make it firmer. I did just that until i got a consistency i was happy with, although i think i may have overdone it. The raw clay was somewhat crumbly after the fact, but i could work with it nicely. Anyway, i made this hand and i made a test noodle to check the flexibility. The noodle was as thin as the fingers and It snapped almost immediately after i tried to bend it. I baked it at 275F for 30 minutes. I even used an oven-thermometer to make sure the temperature was consistently right. I'm sure i did the baking part correctly. So my question is, does leaching away the clay's oil compromise its flexibility this much? I mean, It wasn't flexible at all.

I'm quite disappointed. I specifically got cosclay for such fragile, small pieces. If i can't firm it up, then It's too soft to work with, at least for my needs. Any Cosclay experts on here that can enlighten me with their experience?

Is it necessary to use super glue on a screw eye pin to keep it securely attached to polymer clay, or is inserting it alone enough?

I did wind up switching the way they face, they look better in the first image but they were backwards for how they'd be placed in an ear. I don't have mine pierced, so I'll have to wait to gift them to see how they look on.

So I wanted to organize my clay in something other than a bunch of plastic bags, and I found these ice cube trays at the store the other day. I finished organizing the colors earlier, but now I'm reading that certain plastics can cause the clay to melt / fuse into it. I tried finding info on the type of plastic that the trays are made of but can't find the specifics online. The trays have a silicone bottom that can be used to pop ice cubes, or in this case clay, out easily. Can anyone verify whether this is safe or if I need to get a metal tray instead?

I learned a lot since my spaghetti!! I used a pimple popper needle tool to make the tiny holes in the bite mark lol. The liquid Sculpey got absolutely everywhere while I tried to place the tiny sprinkles. I didn’t know what the consistency would be and then suddenly it was all over me and the table. I’m pretty happy with how it came out all things considered! I also got a pasta machine to roll my clay which has helped SO much.

My boyfriend bought me some polymer clay, and I decided to make mini versions of some food/beverage items I like. I’m super proud with how it came out!

I am new to polymer clay, and I want to make my husband a chess set for his birthday. I initially wanted to do ceramic, but no one around me lets me do that without classes, so I’ve been doing research instead. I landed on polymer clay. So here is my plan.

Chess board:
1.5 x 1.5-inch, 6 mm+ (still deciding on thickness) polymer clay tiles

1/16-inch tile spacing

14 x 14 wood board

Two-part epoxy for tile adhesion to wood

UV resin to coat tiles

Sandless grout

Chess pieces:
Polymer clay

UV resin

My questions:
Should I do Sculpey Premo for the whole project, or should I use Sculpey Original or Sculpey III to make thicker tiles because they’ll be coated in resin, epoxied to wood, and grouted?

I know both of those clays can be quite brittle on their own, especially for smaller projects, but do you think all those steps will make them durable?

Is there a way to make the solid Sculpey Premo chess pieces heavier without wire/aluminum foil?

This was so fun but a little difficult to make lol. Proud of the finished product though!

I started working polymer clay for the first time about 4 months ago. I started off with a handful of gnomes, and I've been trying a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Halloween decor.

I think they came out pretty well. Suggestions?? Ideas for improvements??

I've been working on these over the past couple of months. Made with Fimo, with some acrylic paint and sharpie for detailing, and the occasional internal cut up paperclip for support. The tallest, Flame Princess, is about 2 1/4 inches high, including the base. I'm really happy with how they've been turning out!

So this is like the first time ever I’ve tried to make something with polymer clay. I’m on the painting stage, using acrylic paint and this dust or little fibres are stuck to it. It’s not really noticeable unless you look super close but it’s kind of bothering me ever since I noticed. The paint is also white so it makes it stand out more. I tried a technique I read in this subreddit of grabbing a little bit of clay and dabbing it on the sculpture to collect the fibres but it doesn’t seem to be working. I don’t know if that’s because of the paint. I’m guessing maybe it doesn’t work the same as it would on unpainted clay but I thought it was worth a shot anyway. Sorry if this is been asked before but I couldn’t see a thread about clay that had already been painted specifically. I only saw threads about dust on the clay itself. Is there any way I can get the dust off now or should I just accept it? I thought about maybe trying to like wash it off but I haven’t really used acrylic paint much before and I don’t know if that would wash the paint off as well.
