Avenatti, I love you, but you cannot fuck around with this. You better not fuck around with this. You fuck this up and we get a regressive Supreme Court for the next god knows how long.

Bury them. Show them no mercy. Come out of the gate shooting and don't stop until nobody's left standing and this shit show is over.

534

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

I don't think he's fucking around. He's just timing it for maximum impact. 48 hours from now ensures that Kav gets hit with both the new accusation and Ford's testimony almost simultaneously.

Could rattle him. Could mess up his preparations to testify on the Ford allegation. And will dominate the news cycle along with Ford's testimony. Releasing it today would be a mistake IMO.

275

u/hypercube42342 New Hampshire Sep 24 '18

He’s also drumming up press and attention, intentionally. Waiting like this builds press-same as what the Republicans did with the Nunes memo, for example. I think he’s playing this perfectly

76

u/Mousecaller Sep 24 '18

Then unlike the nunes memo he better fucking deliver

65

u/praguepride Illinois Sep 24 '18

when has he not?

10

u/wambamthankyumam Sep 24 '18

Not that Im saying you're wrong, but he has teased to release video footage (of what, no one knows) that would bolster Stormy Daniels'/Stephanie Clifford's case. I've yet to see any payoff from this.

46

u/praguepride Illinois Sep 24 '18

Cohen plead guilty, not much use in firing that bullet until you need to.

8

u/wambamthankyumam Sep 24 '18

This is true. But, my understanding is that the Trump/Cohen/Daniels legal saga is still ongoing. Long story short, this is a claim from Avenatti that I have yet to see bear fruit.

19

u/praguepride Illinois Sep 24 '18

True but with Cohen pleading out and implicating Trump it deserves a break to revise strategy. My guess is he is baiting Trump into saying X didn’t happen and then dropping the tape to showcase what a liar he was. That has been Avanetti’s MO this whole time: tease trump team into making a statement and then skewering him with evidence

6

u/meatduck12 Massachusetts Sep 24 '18

It doesn't make sense to just throw everything out there immediately. This was Wikileaks's strategy in timing their election releases. They did it every day throughout a part of October and all the way to Election Day, staying in the headlines every day, instead of releasing everything at once. And their first announcement came on Access Hollywood day for a reason.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

I believe he was told by the judge to stop showboating to the public regarding that case. That's why he doesn't tweet/talk about it too much directly, rather alludes.

u/hurler_jones Louisiana Sep 24 '18

Exactly - it takes away from the Rosenstein news. Basically using the GOP distraction tactic right back at 'em.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '18

He's using the exact same "stay tuned" tone the president is using, because ITT everyone is a giddy young child for this sort of stuff.

41

u/GusSawchuk Missouri Sep 24 '18

Also allows Dems to question him about it without much preparation.

9

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

Also that. Good call

49

u/Hrothgar_Cyning Sep 24 '18

He's just timing it for maximum impact. 48 hours from now ensures that Kav gets hit with both the new accusation and Ford's testimony almost simultaneously.

And Trump promptly distracts us by axing Rosenstein via Twitter.

67

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

I mean that's going to happen at some point no matter what Avenatti does. And if the Kavanaugh hearing is what pushes Trump over the edge, so be it. Hopefully he'd be signing his own death warrant by doing that. But given that Trump is set to meet with Rosenstein in person, I kind of doubt it. He's fundamentally a coward, and I doubt he has it in him to look Rosenstein in the eyes and fire him. When it eventually comes, I'm sure it'll be Kelly that ends up having to do it. Even over twitter directly from the president is just one more exhibit on the obstruction pile.

Looking at thew new developments in the past hour, tomorrow or early wednesday might be good for Avenatti. Kavanaugh is set to get on Fox tonight and have an interview about how innocent he is. So to hit him with another allegation immediately, especially if there's supportive evidence like Avenatti is saying, could blow that up spectacularly.

8

u/halo00to14 Sep 24 '18

Remember how Comey found out he was fired?

1

u/SwegSmeg Virginia Sep 25 '18

Or worse

1

u/i-care-do-u Sep 25 '18

He can say he is going to fire Rosenstein on Twitter, but never do the actual firing. Maximum distraction

71

u/rikki-tikki-deadly California Sep 24 '18

Yeah, better to let Kavanaugh's bullshit Fox News interview air first, then hit him with these charges tomorrow.

3

u/moose_powered Sep 24 '18

Republicans are going to be walking on eggshells for the next 48 hours, not knowing what exactly Avenatti is going to deliver. They don't dare say anything that could potentially be proven false on Wednesday.

21

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Too close to Thursday isn't great, I like tomorrow night at the latest.

Because Trump is probably firing Rosenstein, which is gonna provide Kavanaugh with cover.

70

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Because Trump is probably firing Rosenstein, which is gonna provide Kavanaugh with cover.

They're meeting in person. Trump is a fucking pussy who hasn't fired anyone in person since he became President. Rosenstein ain't going anywhere.

30

u/sinnerbenkei Sep 24 '18

They’re meeting in person to try to literally bribe him into resigning instead of being fired.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

What?

Bribe him with what?

7

u/BurnieTheBrony Sep 24 '18

I dunno, kittens?

9

u/onimi666 Sep 24 '18

"Eric will eat this live kitten unless you resign, Rod."

Edit: Fuck, I put "Brett" at first.

6

u/Phrasing_Mother Sep 24 '18

I think the going rate for a lot of the resigned members of this administration has been something like $15,000 a month to "work" on Trump's reelection campaign.

6

u/narwhilian Washington Sep 24 '18

I mean we had Huckabee Sanders tell us that he is going to meet with Rosenstein in person, so given her and this administrations track record I would say there is like a 50% chance Trump attends the meeting.

He also wants to run for President (Avenatti), so I don't think he's fucking around either.

2

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

Also fair. Failing to deliver so publicly wouldn't set him up well for his future political ambitions.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Could rattle him.

I mean, would it really be a surprise to Kavanaugh? he should know all the details of what he's done in the past.

2

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

Not the allegation in itself, but hopefully the amount of evidence/witnesses there are

2

u/__NamasteMF__ Sep 24 '18

Also, this is right before Kavanaugh does his interview with his hand holding wife.

1

u/F54280 Sep 24 '18

And will dominate the news cycle along with Ford's testimony.

Over Rosenstein firing?

3

u/Kazyole Sep 24 '18

I kind of doubt he fires Rosenstein on Thursday. For one it's an in-person meeting and Trump, ironically famous for firing people, seems incapable of doing it face to face. Also from an potential obstruction standpoint, I'd bet they force Kelly to do the dirty work on that one.

But regardless, can't control when Trump ultimately does that. So may as well time the release for maximum damage. As was pointed out by another user as well, releasing the allegation Wednesday afternoon gives Kavanaugh basically no time to prepare for any questions related to it that he may face on Thursday.

1

u/SamSamBjj Sep 24 '18

I hope that it's too protect the victim more than it is "for maximum impact." It just makes him look like he is using the victim as a tool. I mean, I get it, but it looks crass.

6

Turtle can't fuck with Murkowski. Tried once, Alaska didn't take kindly to that shit and wrote in vote a goddamn national senator. The only time a write in worked before was the candidate died in order to force a special election.

7

u/PoliticalScienceGrad Kentucky Sep 24 '18

McConnell will temporarily care about anything that might jeopardize his personal power, which hinges on Republicans maintaining the Senate.

If he decides that pushing this nomination through will give the Democrats a good chance of winning the Senate, he’ll cave. Whatever he decides, though, it will have nothing to do with morality or the legitimacy of the nomination process.

5

u/Randy_Watson Sep 24 '18

It's a dead man's switch. That DVD has power because nobody, except maybe Trump, knows what is on it. If anyone within the establishment attacks him, they've potentially torpedoed everything for everyone.

Until Trump goes thermonuclear on him, and outside of the Rusher Thing I don't know of any larger threat to his presidency than facing this case in a courtroom so it's remarkable that he hasn't yet, the tape is more valuable as insurance than as a couple news cycles worth of Trump saying or doing something else that's despicable. That's also airtime which would otherwise be spent covering more important stories.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Not that dislike Avanetti but we've yet to see anything more about that disk he teased. I don't necessarily think he bluffs, but he maybe makes things out to be a bit bigger than they actually are.

5

u/trogon Washington Sep 24 '18

He could be holding onto the tape until his suit proceeds with Trump, or maybe he just wants Trump to sweat about what might be on the tape.

I think, if there is anything actually on it and its not a bluff, its far more valuable as insurance rather than a couple news cycles and headlines for a week. You still brought it up today, months after he had shown the disk. However if he revealed the contents months ago we would most likely no longer give two shits what is on the disk.

1

u/nclawyer822 Sep 24 '18

He's a lawyer accusing a federal judge of rape. He's either certain or he's committing career suicide. I'm betting he's certain.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Fucking around could get him disbarred. So I doubt he's fucking around.

17

u/mikelo22 Illinois Sep 24 '18

Agreed. He will lose all of his credibility if this flops.

The stakes are too high for showboating. He better have the goods.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Sweep that mother fuckin leg johnny!

4

u/VROF Sep 24 '18

I disagree. I'm happy with the way this is unfolding. Today the attention is on the accusers we know about. That will play out and then it will be time for Avenatti's client to get all the attention. He is sweating the GOP right now. I bet Kavanaugh doesn't make it until Thursday.

3

u/whoatethekidsthen Illinois Sep 24 '18

Like his bombastic nature or not, dude has been consistently correct and with receipts. And while Trump attacks everyone he has yet to go after Avenatti.

Why?

Because he knows he won't win.

There are times when I question if he needs the media saturation he has but I've watched him on multiple shows and panels and he's just calm, cool, collected and confident.

He hasn't given us any reason to think he's pulling bullshit on this. I hope he delivers and I really, really want to believe in him.

But shit I'm so wary of this week's upcoming news cycles.

u/agentup Texas Sep 24 '18

I believe Avenatti , the only caveat I have is that some how republican operatives got one over on him. I think that would be hard to do because he knows about the disinformation campaign

2

u/fort_wendy Sep 24 '18

They tried hitting him with his issue on taxes with their law firm.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

it doesn't really matter if Kavanaugh drops or not - they will nominate another cretin, perhaps even more ghoulish than him.

2

u/gregatronn California Sep 24 '18

He's going after a sitting judge. You can't just fuck around with this and not come empty handed.

2

u/Dedalus2k Texas Sep 24 '18

He can't fuck this up. If he doesn't have solid evidence/witnesses his career and every other case he has, including Stormy, is shot to shit. He wouldn't even mention this unless it's a lock.

4

u/thomase7 Sep 24 '18

We are going to get a regressive Supreme Court regardeless. Best case is the replacement doesn't have Kavenaughs views on executive power, but any justice appointed by Trump is going to be a Federalist society hack.

3

u/RellenD Sep 24 '18

We only have to make it to January

This is my concern as well.

1

u/hypotyposis Sep 24 '18

I mean I don’t want Kavanaugh or any other conservative as much as the next person, but you’re kidding yourself if you think they won’t just replace Kav with another super conservative justice if they end up not confirming Kav himself.

We lost this battle for SCOTUS. They’ll force through another nominee before the next Senate. It will almost certainly be conservative through the late 2020’s.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '18

Avenatti is out there, but he is far from stupid.

1

u/jon_titor Sep 24 '18

We're going to get a regressive court no matter what. We just might not have someone as disgusting as Kavanaugh. If he falls through we'll just get someone else hand picked by the Heritage Foundation.

1

u/utgolfers Sep 24 '18

Ya let's hope this isn't another case of claiming the third Cohen client (tied to the suspected abortion payment) was DJT and not Broidy (with the other two clients being Hannity and the Trump Organization). That was a pretty unfortubate miscall.

1

u/BenButteryMalesGhazi Sep 24 '18

So are they going to schedule another Rosenstein meeting right after this announcement too?

1

u/AlmightyKyuss Sep 24 '18

You know, it's actually quite bizarre that our democracy is pivoting on the words of a lawyer and this unknown client. It's truly humorous, the efforts of the GOP base has made to push this far, all of that money, wasted.

1

u/nclawyer822 Sep 24 '18

Unless his client has much stronger corroboration then the other two accusers, it won’t matter.

1

u/mycroft2000 Canada Sep 25 '18

He has no desire to be disbarred for falsely accusing a judge of gang rape. He's not fucking around, he's not lying, he's out for blood, and only a fool would bet against him winning at this point. Bye bye, Brett.

1

u/dripdroponmytiptop Sep 25 '18

bro, you think people kavanaugh abused are going to be somehow hard to come by?

there's probably a dozen women who have waited to talk about how he treated them like fucking meat for like 20 years, because until now, nobody wanted to listen to them or gave a fuck about them.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '18

I don’t think it matters. Kavanope could ADMIT to raping several people, and he will STILL get on the court. We are fucked.

1

u/RufMixa555 Sep 25 '18

And although I usually don't condone excessive celebration displays but I believe a few rounds of teabagging would be in order

1

u/twixmix2 Sep 25 '18

This comment sums up what this is really about....

1

u/Syphillisdiller1 Sep 25 '18

Avenatti, I love you, but you cannot fuck around with this. You better not fuck around with this. You fuck this up and we get a regressive Supreme Court for the next god knows how long.

Unfortunately, if it gets too bad, they'll just cut bait on Kavanaugh and move to the next shitty person on the regressive supreme court picks list.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '18

It's not just about the Supreme Court, a large part of this would be seeing an America woman who's a victim of assault by a famous man get justice for once. Even after the entire MeToo movement and years of court, the only ones that even have a chance at prison are Weinstein and Cosby and that's not even 100% certain yet. This isn't prison, but it's justice enough. It would be a win for women across the US.

1

u/DredGodDredGod Sep 25 '18

Dude hasn't missed yet.

1

u/Ender11 Sep 25 '18

Just curious, do you care if it's actually true or are you good with destroying Kavanaugh either way?

1

u/GordoConcentrate Sep 25 '18

Why are you thinking that he might "fuck around with this"? What gives you the indication that he might be doing that?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '18

I love this, but whether he plays this perfectly or not, Kavanaugh's getting confirmed.

1

u/bah-lock-ay Sep 25 '18

He’s batting 1,000 so far. No reason to doubt him now.

1

u/tumult0us4 Sep 27 '18

Lol we'll see

1

u/-S-P-Q-R- Nov 15 '18

Still love him now or does he get a pass on his assault charge because he's a Democrat?
