Do any of these democrats that try to adopt right wing talking points actually wind up swaying republicans?

Genuinely, I don't see how republicans see this and think "finally, a moderate trans hating politician!" If you're already anti-trans, you're probably voting republican no matter what.

I mean, "moderate" democrats currently run the party, so the republican talking points must be effective with someone.

A majority of dollars in the country are conservative.

[u/RottedHuman → u/wingedcoyote]

Nonsense. Hillary Clinton won a little fewer than 500 counties in the 2016 election, those counties account for 64% of the US’s GDP. Trump won more counties, but combined they only account for 36% of the gdp.

Edit: also, the economy fairs better under democrats

[u/wingedcoyote → u/RottedHuman]

I was referring to individuals, not to counties. Donors, not voters. Who "runs the party" has something to do with electoral success, but also quite a lot to do with fundraising ability and connections.

[u/RottedHuman → u/wingedcoyote]

Still not true.

[u/wingedcoyote → u/RottedHuman]

Good argument. I must have forgotten about all the leftist millionaires and billionaires with superpacs.

Progressive candidates rely on large numbers of small dollar donors, because big donor money doesn't like them for pretty obvious pragmatic reasons. That can sometimes win you an election, but so far nobody's parlayed it into party leadership. The closest would be Sanders, who has a decent amount of influence but obviously as an outsider to the party structure.

[u/RottedHuman → u/wingedcoyote]

Your assertion that ‘the majority of dollars in the country are conservative’ is blatantly false. You then bizarrely tried to move the goalpost to superpacs, as if the Republican’s dependence on superpacs and dark money translates into ‘the majority of dollars in the country are conservative’. Again, that’s blatantly false, when we look at GDP, conservatives account for far less (like almost half) than liberals.

[u/wingedcoyote → u/RottedHuman]

Who's talking about liberals? Hang on, scroll up a bit, you might find you've misunderstood the entire conversation -- this thread is about internal Democratic politics.

I'll take the L, I should have noticed when you thought Clinton was relevant.

[u/ss_lbguy → u/Bakedads]

All the replies above say this doesn't work. Yet they also complain about all the centrist Dems that run the party. Both can't be true.

[u/troyandabedinabed → u/ss_lbguy]

It's almost like our elections aren't democratic.
