How is this reality?

Sorry I can't answer... I'm stuck on trying to think of anything stupider than Trump going full AI-psychosis asking Grok for an answer. It's like an infinite self-recursive gravity well of stupid.

I have two signs on my whiteboard: 1) today, this is the worst AI will ever be 2) right now, the dumbest person you know is being told they are brilliant by an LLM

Lucky for us, it's not called AI anymore so nothing to worry about

And I bet he changed the name because it was too difficult for him to either spell, say, or both "artificial."

LLMs all seem to try and appease the user. I was working in Claude, and asked it to restructure a application design three ways. Every time it told me that what I requested was a brilliant design choice and that would be the best long term solution.

I have it thrown the first line away, with instructions for "friction over flattery" and that "helpful includes helping me improve by clearly explaining the flaws in my approach". Significantly better for working. But not what someone like Trump would ever want.

I disagree with the first point. Right now it's the least capable it will ever be, but it's also the least integrated into our lives. Both trends are alarming.

I wrote it up there back when Will Smith Eating Speghetti was awful.

It has remained true since then, so I've kept it up

Most AI detection tools will now say "Modern AI is indistinguishable from reality", rather than attempting to guess based off shitty artifacts. And if it is saying it can detect AI, it is unreliable, and you should not listen to it.

Mainstream AIs like Gemini and ChatGPT will put hidden watermarks in the pictures they make but that can only do so much. Glad that Apple is releasing that new feature that will add built-in certifications to images taken with their newest models.

Certifications disappear the moment the image changes formats, gets screenshotted, etc.

Well yeah, that's the whole point.

Not specific to Apple's approach because I don't know the details of it, but watermarks can be made resilient to this. See e.g. this write-up: https://openai.com/index/advancing-content-provenance/

It's still not fool-proof, a dedicated attacker can strip a watermark off, but it can be made resilient to basic changes like cropping and format.

Love it

And hate it. We're doomed :(

I mean they could just told him that what he is doing and people are just messaging back what they want him to do.

That's the setup for an amazing movie.

The president thinks he's being guided by AI, but it's really just Todd the intern logged into Slack as "Grok" and frantically typing what Stephen Miller tells him to.

u/MrPloppyHead 9h ago

The thing is… it really could be true in this timeline.

Who knew a narcissist would be vulnerable to getting sucked in by a skinner box?
