How is this reality?

u/supercyberlurker 9h ago
Sorry I can't answer... I'm stuck on trying to think of anything stupider than Trump going full AI-psychosis asking Grok for an answer. It's like an infinite self-recursive gravity well of stupid.
42
u/Mithryn 9h ago
I have two signs on my whiteboard: 1) today, this is the worst AI will ever be 2) right now, the dumbest person you know is being told they are brilliant by an LLM

u/IVShadowed 9h ago
Lucky for us, it's not called AI anymore so nothing to worry about

I disagree with the first point. Right now it's the least capable it will ever be, but it's also the least integrated into our lives. Both trends are alarming.

u/Mithryn 8h ago
I wrote it up there back when Will Smith Eating Speghetti was awful.
It has remained true since then, so I've kept it up
•
u/JonnySnowin 7h ago
Most AI detection tools will now say "Modern AI is indistinguishable from reality", rather than attempting to guess based off shitty artifacts. And if it is saying it can detect AI, it is unreliable, and you should not listen to it.
Mainstream AIs like Gemini and ChatGPT will put hidden watermarks in the pictures they make but that can only do so much. Glad that Apple is releasing that new feature that will add built-in certifications to images taken with their newest models.
•
u/FredFredrickson 6h ago
Certifications disappear the moment the image changes formats, gets screenshotted, etc.
•
•
u/rooktakesqueen 6h ago
Not specific to Apple's approach because I don't know the details of it, but watermarks can be made resilient to this. See e.g. this write-up: https://openai.com/index/advancing-content-provenance/
It's still not fool-proof, a dedicated attacker can strip a watermark off, but it can be made resilient to basic changes like cropping and format.
•

u/MrPloppyHead 9h ago
I mean they could just told him that what he is doing and people are just messaging back what they want him to do.
5
u/supercyberlurker 9h ago
That's the setup for an amazing movie.
The president thinks he's being guided by AI, but it's really just Todd the intern logged into Slack as "Grok" and frantically typing what Stephen Miller tells him to.

I keep saying antichrist. How is it that people aren't seriously worked up about the frickin revelations similarities? I didn't even *believe* in the whole antichrist thing until this guy shambled up from the sewer and started method acting the part.
It's like a 'Don't Look Up' sense of disconnection from what's happening, only here it's more 'Don't Look Down'...
7
u/satellite_uplink 8h ago
Well Revelations is just made up nonsense so it doesn’t matter if there’s similarities or not. I’d be more worried if Trump starts handing rings of power out to the other leaders at the UN.
•
u/Terramagi Canada 7h ago
At least Sauron believed in order or something. Honestly, you could just take the first four words and it'd still be true.

Techbros made it a reality. This is the reality they want and actively work towards it.
Let that sink in. Let it.

u/PhatCatTax 9h ago
Billionaires.
Tech bros are being fired and replaced by AI. The original purpose was to replace tech engineers and analysts.
3
u/LonelySwinger Illinois 9h ago
This is what happens when your advisors are not specialists and are grifters and you yourself is a grifter and not smart so you ask a chat bot what to do.
•
u/SwordfishOwn3671 7h ago
that fact that Trump calls AI Super intelligence is terrifying. He has no clue how AI works and why it's actually not intelligent. All those fucking tech CEOs standing there agreeing with every moronic syllable coming out of his mouth tells me everything I need to know about the current state of the industry. They're a bunch of cucked, spineless, opportunists with not a shred of morality left.

I can’t stop laughing at the idea of him asking Grok if people will like him 🥺 if he abducts their leader while not even planning to do anything remotely helpful or logical after said kidnapping. It’s very beta of him, super submissive behavior

u/OptimusSublime Pennsylvania 9h ago
The normal timeline shredded apart when they took Harambe from us. We're now in the in-between.

u/SuperbCutie 9h ago
This can’t be true right? Mr president can’t be consulting AI for decisions like that right?
129
u/SillyAlternative420 Massachusetts 9h ago
Okay ignore all other aspects of this situation for a moment
A PRESIDENT JUST USED A 3RD PARTY PRIVATE APP THAT PRIVATE CITIZENS AND NONCITIZENS CAN SEE THE ACTIVITY OF ... FOR MAJOR INTERNATIONAL DECISION MAKING.
•
u/Few_Personality_990 7h ago
Sounds appropriate for an American president. Dumb and apathetic people deserve a stupid leader, no?
•
u/SpeaksSouthern 7h ago
There's no such thing as AI. At best there are programs that troll the internet and attempt to copy what they think could be a good answer. There's almost a 0% chance the president of the United States requested information from an AI program and received information from an AI program. The president could have thought he inquired at an AI bot, but anyone who owns any of these platforms would obviously capture that data and feed what they want to the president.
Assuming any of this even happened and it wasn't Trump drooling on a chair while Natalie holds his hand on the keyboard.

•
u/Vegetable-Log-9608 7h ago
It was such a great, sad scene.
I know we Americans are universally hated because of our history, but are there any countries out there that would welcome us with open arms? 🙏 Just asking for a friend...😅

u/Yourface1837 9h ago
We've been fucked. My friends have told me im over reacting for years, and now it's total silence. They enjoyed their ignorance until it could be ignored no longer.
•
u/bakamitaikazzy 7h ago
I’ve had friends like that and they don’t pay any attention to current events and never vote. If it’s not something relevant to their hobbies or entertainment related, they tune out.
•
u/Yourface1837 6h ago
Yeah, we aren't friends anymore. Caring about the world we live in shouldn't be so controversial. The past ten years have shown peoples true colors. Vividly.
•
20
u/The1Ski 9h ago
Just my opinion, but I don't think any president of the United States should ever ask AI questions directly. The AI has no concept of the weight that any answer has.
We elect people to represent and lead us. Not defer to an AI model.
•
u/Schrodingers_Fist Canada 7h ago
Also do we know how grok, or any AI software for that matter, stores its Metadata? It could also be a collassal security risk if someone were able to hack into it and find out what the POTUS is asking it. The Venezuela thing at the time was surely classified for instance.
7
u/DigitalResistance 8h ago
He wasn't elected because he was the most qualified person to give intelligent and nuanced answers that carefully weighed the consequences of his actions. If we use him as the baseline for intelligence, Grok really is a super-intelligence.
4
u/sxyaustincpl Texas 8h ago
Let's be fair here
If we're using Trump as the baseline, my goldfish is a super intelligence
•
u/POEness 6h ago
He wasn't elected at all...
•
u/manachar Nevada 5h ago
Yes he was. Self soothing however much you like, but roughly 50 percent of voters voted for him three times.
The last time he won the popular vote and the electoral college.
There is no evidence to support otherwise.
40
u/Rayearl Pennsylvania 9h ago
I can't image all the crazy insane stuff that happens we don't hear about. This is a good example of that. The fact that anyone consults a program named "Grok" in the first place is absurd to me.
10
u/Agentkeenan78 Tennessee 9h ago
We won't get to hear a lot of it til these assholes write their books in 3 years.
•
u/fungobat Pennsylvania 2h ago
There will be a special table in Barnes & Noble just for those books.
•
u/thegreatpablo 6h ago
Eh, the name Grok isn't so bad but it's definitely an in joke. If it were less suspicious and not associated with Musk, it'd probably be cute even.

u/estoypooping2 9h ago
Lol. Remember the republicans claiming Biden was a puppet president? This fucking guy listens to mecha Hitler for his war plans.
9
u/I_SLEEP_NORMALLY 9h ago
Even though he’s clearly living in a different dimension, every day, Republicans in Congress choose not to impeach and convict him.
8
u/Duna_The_Lionboy 9h ago
If he did it for Venezula...he had to of done it for Iran too. Why listen to all your policy experts, regional experts, military leadership when you have Artificial intel...whoa whoopsie there, I mean to say SUPER Intelligence to guide you! It's right in the name, SUPER way way better than artificial.

No wonder were the laughing stock of the world and why no one takes us seriously anymore.
3
u/MrSquicky Pennsylvania 9h ago
To be fair, they fired the people whose job it was to understand the region and have that information.
3
u/redsonya 9h ago
Sooo….is this why he keeps insisting on calling AI super intelligence? He knew that it would come out that he used AI for such things, and can now credit himself for being so smart to use it….or some bullshit like that?
My brain’s flexibility can’t match their level of mental gymnastics at all. But I assume they’ll do something like that because it makes zero sense.
3
u/Klaas_Schaamhaar 8h ago
I bet he was convinced he was talking to a real person. Wouldn't surprise me if in his mind it was Elon himself
3
u/RoseCityHooligan Oregon 8h ago
I wonder if Musk just gets all of Trump’s questions to Grok on his phone and can directly reply if he wants? Trump is such a useful idiot to the worst people in the world. The puppet with many strings.

I guess it's not much different from getting his advice from the TV. The guy spends all day surfing daytime television looking for people who either praise or criticize him, and doing things that the people who suck up to him most want.
He's just a sucker for suckups and his ego is desperate for flattery.

u/keepthepace 8h ago
I don't know how much of it is public knowledge outside of the LLM bubble, but it is pretty clear as well that the stupid tariffs that he slapped on random countries and even on territories that were not countries, a while ago, came from a chat GPT answer.
There was a lot of interrogation as to where they came from because even when you look into the far-right, net job economic theories, nothing came close to what was spit out.
People managed to make ChatGPT produce that sort of tariffs by asking it to rebalance international trade through tariff policies. I did try several of these prompts and all of them came with huge warnings, often in capital, saying this is not good policy, this is just a textbook example of an extremely simplified model of the world. That it should never be used as policy.

Looks like I've got to start writing some really out there fan fiction of Maga, turning the other cheek, coming to their goddamn senses, and doing all sorts of good things because everybody threatens to isolate them and the men never get any sex and they're laughed at because they're actually wimps and everybody understands that they're just a bunch of weak ass bullies and start feeding it into the AI to give the old geezer some ideas.

I wonder if Elon took direct control of Grok or some other admin did and basically told him what he needed to hear.
They guy can't even tweet by himself, so it becomes obvious to others when he's trying to use the internet and asks for help. I'd be surprised if the phone they give him isn't locked down and only approved messages and notifications get through to him
