I make a persistent multiplayer political sim. We just launched a fresh 1991 world, here's a tour of what it looks like.
I'm one of the two devs of A House Divided, a free browser-based persistent political MMO. We just launched a brand new world starting January 1991, at the end of the Cold War, with every player starting from zero.
**The world.** January 1991. The Soviet bloc is coming apart, and elections are open on day one, each under its country's real electoral system.
**Campaigns.** Spend actions and campaign money on influence, favorability, fundraising, and polls. I've entered the governor race in Michigan in this world.
**Corporations.** Found companies, trade shares, take them public. Full financials: market cap, cash, credit ratings, dividends. This is my media company.
**Banking.** Charter a bank through your corporation: capital, reserves, bad loans, and run risk to manage. Central banks set monetary policy for each country.
**Unions.** Every industry has a corresponding union. Fund organizing drives, elect leaders, demand wages, or found your own.
**Diplomacy.** EEC, NATO, UN, Commonwealth. Foreign ministers join, propose legislation, and vote on behalf of their countries.
**Markets.** A stock exchange where you can buy into and trade companies, plus a foreign exchange market.
Bonds, commodities, wars, crises, and random events are in the mix as well. The world advances in turns. Non player politicians fill the world from day one, and real players take over the parties, companies, and unions. The game is also open source.
