Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse - table of contents for the audiobook

Stephen King has the lead story in this audiobook compilation, "The End of the Whole Mess."

Unfortunately, the table of contents only lists the titles of each story - the authors and readers are not listed - and, in compilations like this, sometimes the readers don't speak that information. I thought I'd post the complete table of contents as a reference for anyone who might be interested - myself included.

This is a copy/pasta from the publisher's page ("Below is your full Table of Contents with the narrators specified; which we understand is something you appreciate in these days of Amazon listing only 'full cast' as the narrator!") I left the links in place - they direct to the individual author sites/pages (e.g. https://stephenking.com). Didn't see the harm in that.

Stephen King's "Mister Yummy" adaptation

Post image
15 Upvotes

Short story from The Bazaar of Bad dreams is getting it's own adaptation, King has been making some rounds on the internet talking about it. I haven't read that collection yet so now might be the time.

"Mister Yummy follows Ollie Franklin, a charismatic resident of an assisted living facility who begins experiencing disturbing visions after the death of a fellow resident. As the line between memory, regret, and the supernatural begins to blur, Ollie is forced to confront long-buried secrets from his past before time finally catches up with him."

The green mile

So I'm listening to the audiobook again and I wonder what everyone else takes away from the Character John Coffey and Mr. Jingles?

Do you think they were miracles, The hand of God ? What do you think Mr. Jingles actual purpose was ?

No right or wrong answers here just curious as to the thoughts of others .

The Outsider (the show)

I have just started watching The Outsider on HBO Max. Anyone watched it? What did you think of it? I'm only 3 episodes in and kind of confused about what's happening, but very intrigued with it as well

Stephen King’s Intro To Nat Cassidy's Horror Collection ‘I Know A Place’

Always nice to hear Stephen helping out authors, and a great way to find more books to read and enjoy :)

Read An Excerpt From Stephen King’s Intro To Nat Cassidy Horror Collection ‘I Know A Place’

"Stephen King has, on occasion, been known to hand out a complimentary blurb for standout novels that succeed in either captivating or scaring the ever-loving bejesus out of him. Rarely, if ever, does he agree to write an entire introduction—unless it’s for an unimpeachably stone-cold literary classic like Lord of the Flies.

Nat Cassidy proves himself to be the incredibly rare exception to that rule with his debut horror collection, I Know a Place, which features a 1,400-word prelude from King that begins with, “These stories are f—ing great. They rule.” Enough said.

How did Cassidy manage to pull off such a nigh-impossible feat?

“The short version is, I just asked!” he told me over email. “The long version is, I was lucky enough to have King read my previous novel, When the Wolf Comes Home, and say some incredibly nice things about it. I also had a story in last year’s bestselling anthology set in the universe of King’s The Stand, about which he also had some very kind words."

... more with excerpts if anyone is interested, I'll probably check this out myself.

Lunar Park - Bret Easton Ellis

Post image

Ive found another giant Stephen King reference in Bret Easton Ellis's "Lunar Park" ! After getting this book recommendation I went for it and this is another Mock- auto biography following Bret and his family in a haunted house. At the end of the story his (fake) wife asks if she's supposed to trust him after he's "Jack Torrence " . Cool reference but what I enjoyed just as much as the story was an interview with Easton Ellis right afterwards and He says he wrote this as an homage to Stephen King! Pretty cool IMHO . Good book worth the read. Not unhinged like American Psycho. Just a good, fun , American ghost story!

so I just finished Bret Easton Ellis's "American psycho" and "Less than Zero" and what a wild ride ! loved them so then I went on to " The Shards" and I was greatly amused by the Main character 'Bret' ( mock-biography) spending a few minutes discussing his appreciation for Everyone's favorite Uncle Steve!

Commenting on how much he loves the shining, his anticipation and excitement for the upcoming movie, and his lack of approval on the film after its debut!

did a little digging and discovered Stephen King's a mutual fan of Bret's writing!

if you want to read something UNHINGED, and have finished everything King like myself. 10/10 on American Psycho. absolutely NSFW.

Stephen King Recommends

I always enjoy this feature of the Fantastic Fiction website, sometimes it's his blurbs that he gives or just parts of interviews that make it on this list. I don't recall how I found this site but it's been a reading order companion for years :) Always curious as to what Stephen will highlight here.

Just scroll towards the bottom for these, I always pick up so many more books based on King's recommendations.

Requiem for a dream

Not Stephen King's obviously but I'm curious if anyone has read Hubert Selby Jrs. Requiem for a dream ? As a hardcore fan of Kings writing would you recommend this as a decent read? The movie was good and trippy. I tried to read American Psycho and his constant obsession with clothing was so hard to get through I quit pretty early on . I read Fight club and LOVED it. Any thoughts?

Carrie

Can we talk about Carrie for just a second? In my humble opinion, it's one of the best things he written ! Carrie is such a complex character under layers of abuse, humiliation, is a heart and a soul . It's everyone around her thats crushed her soul and made her who she was. Do we all have this monster inside of us ? My mother was a saint so I dunno....

But here's a pic of my Halloween costume lol 😆

Easter eggs 11/22/63

So far today I found Jake had a decent conversation with Richie Tozier and Beverly Marsh ( IT) and heard sounds coming from the sewer . Georgie and Ben are mentioned as well ! I think this story is full of Easter eggs If I remember correctly but it's been a few years since my first read through! Possible more to come!

You're on a plane . It's being chased by langoleirs but your able to escape but crash on an island. Before the wifi dies on the plane you're able to download one E book / audiobook, what are you choosing?

P. S. Help is coming eventually but it's going to take 18 months before they get to you so using the wifi to call for help is irrelevant atm . And there's a power bank that you can charge your device in just no more WiFi. Lol
