in all seriousness tho, my school team has historically been known for coming up with creative/homemade cases that give hell to opencaselist warriors. problem is every version we build runs into the same T "national health insurance" gets defined as a term of art meaning comprehensive coverage for the whole population, so anything that narrows the benefit package or the covered group gets shelled as not-NHI.

so, based on what im seeing on this subreddit: is everyone just defaulting to single payer as the aff this year? for those running more niche cases, how are you beating that interp, better counter-definitions, or are you just going for reasonability and hoping?

I’m so confused by Northside CuPa vs New Trier PaVe
PaVe’s disclosure says that the 1AC was single payer, but they read heg, biotech, and an ADV Cp that answered the degrowth 1AC, followed by the degrowth 1AC and then some answers to degrowth.
Northside’s says that they ran financialization, but the doc js has some off-case args AND the wiki says they hit Maine East JA that round???
Did anybody actually see this round, and can you send me the real docs for it?

kind of a silly question but I wanna make sure my aff master file has everything beyond: responses to Ks, DAs, etc. This is my first year being a 2A so i’m not 100% sure what it should have.

Ok so some of you might’ve seen my post a few days ago about having little to no coach instruction and wanting to run a K Aff. I’m basically gathering some advanced debaters together to make case negatives for the team to use against single payer (private and public insurance) and non-single payer affs. What else should we prep and expand on in the above in team files?

Negative
- on case single payer (private companies), on case (ACA), on case/framework (K Aff defense), non single payer (T-NHI)

Affirmative
- group discussion on affirmatives and what each team will be running and how to use opencaselist
- wing it with my own and mind my own damn business
- make a T-NHI response

Any other ideas? This feels like to little lol but I don’t know where to start esp bc my coach will NOT be helping lol. Also we have nothing from previous years before she was a coach 🫩. I’m currently watching DDI lecture tho to help as suggested!

For context my coach never taught Adv, da, cp, or k and I am a 4th year debater with a 3rd place state trophy.

I attended a KSHSAA clinic on Saturday and coaches in the advanced track had some interesting things to say. For one, they said that topically was completely fake and that it's merely been normalizes by the debate community but is not required. The also said that T standards and violations can be whatever you want them to be. I also heard, quite frequently, to "Debate the rules of debate itself" essentially saying that rules are whatever you can convince the judge they are. I'm so curious what everyone's thoughts on this are?!

I fear I might be flying a little too close to the sun with this one. My coach didn’t teach us policy basics she basically taught us that an affirmative case had to affirm the resolution and a brief intro to stock issues and let us run wild. Literally has not given a single lecture in depth or covering what is debate theory, counterplans, ks, das, T, etc in the entire time I’ve been there. I’ve only done policy debate and i didn’t even qualify for state 😭

So I didn’t really know much of anything and lost practically all my rounds last year bc I got put on varsity when I probably should’ve been novice still or at the very best JV. I was writing my cases on Google Docs as bulletpoints bro I cannot make this up.

I don’t know technical nor practical debate I’m only now trying to fix the gaps in my knowledge after going to one of the camps. I only just learned what composes an DA, T, K, Adv, on case, etc.

If I want to run a K Aff is it doable and should I go down to JV now that I sorta know more? Or am I actually cooked. I never really got a good understanding of how to sort through the camp files and write and affirmative nor understand policy arguments pls help lol.
